  1. She's real nice, and not even too old yet,,, wonder if she does windows????
  2. Right one, left one,, now you got me confused,,,, Dick, just make sure it's not the short one the work on.
  3. Sorry Dano, hate to disappoint, but we'll do anything in a pinch,, we can be the most helpful folks around, we aim to please our customer, and if in the process we can claim more available procedures, and Dick wants to be the ginny pig.............. Now has to comparing your shoulder to a tranny Dick???? I'll think on that one, but you're welcome to stop by on your trip to TO to say hello and let me at it,,,,, can't say I can fix it any,,,, but at least I can make it worse.
  4. Love it, couldn't have said it better, even IF I had thought of it.
  5. hey,,, thanks for the compliment,,, but you go ahead, u got my permission and blessing.
  6. Hi, and Welcome. The 1200 and V-max are the same motor, just that the 1200 is de-tuned. Somebody else can give more specific info than me. You will be advised to take out the engine and do second gear upgrade, even if it's done, most likely the undercut on the gear dogs was most likely not done and so then will give you trouble in the future. Brakes and brake lines can be upgraded as well as front forks. Also check for frame rusting, braking just behind the exhaust collector, some have it, some don't, but seems to be an easy fix with a good welder.
  7. Correct,,, wow Gary, we agree,,, does that mean I'm getting good or what???? I would like to clarify though, you said on the inner surface, yes, but facing out so that it can be seen at the split. About the gasket,, don't worry about it just yet. If it needs doing you'll need it anyways, if it doesn't it's a cheap price to pay for peace of mind, and if you buy and want to ride it home, it shouldn't leak that bad that you can't keep up with it. Just don't loose any pieces so that at least you can put it all back to at least half decent shape. You never know, there a small chance it might pop off in one piece.
  8. Boy you had me for a while,,, here I thought it was a bike you were working on, until I started reading at the start,,,,, I was wondering about all those parts and where to find them,, and then I worried because of the names as to how much more is was going to cost to fix it. But hey,, it's just your shoulder,,, no sweat bro, just bring it over here, we've done lots of those, it'll only take a few minutes, we use only stainless, not painless,,we can repair or replace on the spot, and we even provide a guarantee which comes to you via email,,, sorry, something had to come from there. Best wishes for the future, and may God bless the procedure for you.
  9. That's the beauty of the impact driver (Dewalt), it gives you the impact without the danger of hammering your way through the item your working on. You don't need to support the back side or set it in a 'vice' to keep it from turning. More or less like an air impact, but then much gentler and neater, and much better control with amazing results. Wayne didn't believe me when he first saw me use it, but now has his own,,, it's awesome!!!!
  10. I think you covered it fairly well,,, nice job!
  11. Not really as you might think, it's variable speed, so the harder you squeeze the trigger the more torque, also the better the battery the more torque, so a half used battery maybe won't do what a full battery is capable of.
  12. If you really want to know and the present owner agrees, all it takes is to remove the middle gear cover and take a look,,, it'll be right there staring at ya. See red arrows. Only have to remove small side cover and six allen head cap screws.
  13. Try downloading 'Open Office', it's free and easy to use.
  14. So now what causes the wear on the gear dogs,,, the fact that they're not seated a deeply as they should be with a solid washer? or hard riding. I'd submit that all would be good if it weren't for that blasted washer which is the only thing that Yammi seemed to have changed in Mid 85. So again, little do I know, but it seems that the washer wears and so allows the dogs to slip out of their holes and so become worn. The first time this happens is under extreme pressure from a hard take off, but soon as the wear becomes evident, the dogs find their way out of the holes much easier and eventually they don't want to be in there at all.
  15. Seeing as there is constant pressure on that split washer, I would think it's got more to do with revolutions than with how hard it was ridden. I suppose that riding it hard would speed up the process, but it will wear regardless, and I would say that somewhere before you hit the 80,000 km, 50,000mile mark, it's going to show up. It's a soft washer and that' that! Best to replace before it rears it's ugly head, that way there shouldn't be any additional problems in the tranny. Interesting thing is, when you take off the middle gear cover you can see it sitting right there,,, looking at you and saying,, come and get me,, but the tranny has to come apart to get at it, so the engine has to come out, the faring has to come off and the exhaust has to come apart,,, and while you in there.................
  16. Kind of the same thing as I'm doing to an 86, except that Wizard765 took all the pictures.
  17. You got a leak! Use soapy water to find it then fix it.
  18. Good idea. I have been getting away with just using an air impact, so far so good, I haven't had to stick anything in there to hold anything yet,,,,,,,,,,,,
  19. I have found that using an impact driver saves me a lot of screw heads and broken screws. Personally I use an 18 volt DeWalt, but anything like it would be useful, much better than the impact drivers that you hit with a hammer. Also, it saves the pilllips bit, or what ever bit you might be using,,, fact is, I find it so handy that it almost has replaced all use of my hand held screw drivers and ratchets, not all mind you, but it is one tool I would replace immediately should the one I have fail.
  20. For the time it takes, put it on and see how you like it, after all, it's your bike and really you're the one who is going to spend most of the time with it, looking at it, appreciating it, cleaning it, or being disgusted with it.
  21. Let me know if you can find it, if not, I'll send you one.
  22. Wow,, nice job,, bet you're happy!
  23. Bet you are happy to find a new home for that paddle EH?
  24. That's not fair, here I am working hard all night on my scoot, and you get to sit there and come up with all the right answers. I'm totally ticked,,,, isn't the Warden there to keep you busy??
