If we want to catch the ride at the start, 7 would be good. We can also go directly to Lockport, only about 1 hour from Casablanca. Tour starts at 11, so if we leave Casablanca by 9:30 we should be alright. I suggest we leave Casablanca by 8:30, 1 hours ride, plus 1\2 at the border would put us in Lockport around 10. Then we can add a bit of time for u-turns, BS and a coffee before the rest of the bandits get there for the 11am tour. We'll also get prime parking.

Swing arm removal
Marcarl replied to CrazyHorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
It will be rusted to the shock most likely, needs to be tapped out. The reason you leave the nut attached is to not bugger up the threads. Heat won't help, seeing as the bolt goes through the inner bushing and that is wrapped with rubber. -
little oil drip

You'll again need to remove the slave,,, well now that was a statement you didn't expect I bet,,, yep, remove the slave and then remove the push rod. NOW, in behind the push rod is a ball bearing, it may come out and may not, but there is one there, so watch for it, without it you will be clutchless. Now is a good time to have a long handled needle nose pliers and a new seal. The old seal will come out, so you can drill a small hole in the metal part, one on either side of the seal and then insert a screw into the hole. You now have something to grab onto to work the seal out with those long handled needle nose pliers. Once it's out insert the new seal using a proper sized socket and an extension. Take your time, enjoy the work, put the push rod back in with the dimpled end going in first and then reinstall the rest of the components. -
Swing arm removal
Marcarl replied to CrazyHorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
This can be a toughie. It rusts together, hence it been advised to put grease fittings on these joints,, which you are attempting to do. To remove: The front mount, the one in front of the shock must be attached and tight. It also helps to have the bolts and bearings attaching the swing arm to the wish bone in place and tight. Put the nut back on the shaft in question, but not fully tight. Now with the help of a drift you can work that baby loose,,, gonna take a little time and patience, but it will come out. Once it starts to move you can back the nut off to get more movement. Careful not to damage the threads, this bolt is no longer available from Yammi, so if it's damaged or worn, you'll have to get somebody to make you a new one. These bolts are shoulder specific, so one off the shelve will be hard to find. -
So we are all different eh. Ya, ain't that the truth, so are you and so am I. Trouble is, often times we want everybody to be just like me, handle their problems my way, spend their money how I would suggest, drive the way I drive, think the way I think. I know now, it just ain't that way, we are all different and so do things differently, sometimes not even right, but then we all make mistakes, say the wrong things,,,,,,,,, I'm learning to live with all those issues, not always easy, but I don't have any stints yet either. Got to remember that we are all made in the image of the Creator, and somehow each of us reflects that image, some better than others for sure, but reflect we do. Guess what matters most is how I reflect that image, and let Him handle the rest. That's it! My thoughts as they came to mind. Ride careful, and enjoy His creation.

Don't know where it is, but I know where it isn't,,, does that help?

Gentlemen and Ladies. For now I will close this thread, it doesn't seem to be doing what I think was intended, it has no real plot if you will, and I wonder if there is any benefit for anybody to carry on any discussion, actually the opposite may happen as it seems. Hope you all understand. Carl The Mods are discussing this at length.

Just so you know, the 1st ride leaves at 9am to the caves. Second ride leaves @ 11am to Elicotville for sight seeing. So if we want to join the first ride we need to leave Casablanca by 7 am. just so you know.

still weak fire one #2 cyl
Marcarl replied to Black wing's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
As it is running, squirt some carb cleaner, or WD40 into that cylinder, if it responds to that encouragement, I would say you have a carb issue. Too much fuel will cause a cylinder to miss-fire as well as too little fuel, it needs to be close to right. -
'round here we wave when we can, and mostly get a wave back, unless the hand is busy, then we might get a nod, or we might get nothing, I mean nothing at all if we are riding the wrong brand, reason being that we either are riding something that doesn't measure up or just isn't classified as good enough. I wish everybody would ride a REAL motorcycle.

When I put on brake pads , I take a file and remove a 45 degree angle at the leading edge of the pad, doesn't need to be much, but stops the squealing. Don't know why this works, because even after the pad has worn beyond the 45, it still doesn't squeal.

If you are playing with the plug on the back of the control unit, and that makes it work,,,, your problem is still in the control unit. Been there, done that, until I de-soldered and then resoldered. If you don't have a sucker, then it's best to get one, they're not expensive, should be where ever a soldering iron is sold. HF, Home Depot, Farm Fleet, Lowes, Pep Boys,,,,,

They must have had a new driver on the UPS truck!!

Had all my ducks but couldn't get them lined up,,,, but now I just lost a duck, and it was that miserable one that kept having to have it's own way,,,,,,, so what time Saturday @ Casablanca? I could leave Friday anytime but have to be back by Saturday eve,,, Sunday is all tied up. What's your pleasure my friend?

My guess is that when this does happen, the system has been neglected for some time, and has been leaking, but just enough not to notice on the floor, or in puffs of smoke while running. It would have sit and idle for some time on the side stand for a very slow leak to show up,,, just asked Scamper how she does it.

Clutch Not Working
Marcarl replied to Royal MN's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
What I would suggest in addition to all that's been said, is to bleed the master first. Do this by first making sure you have cleaned the reservoir, and put in fresh fluid. The you need to do 2 things at once: slightly squeeze the handle, moving it only maybe 1\2 inch and then back again, at the same time tap the banjo bolt at the end of the master with the plastic end of a screw driver. This works best with the scoot on the center stand and the handle bars cranked all the way to the right, so that the banjo is on the low side. keep tapping and slightly pumping until you don't see anymore bubbles coming up in the master. Doing this will get rid of the worst part of clutch bleeding, for once you have the air out of the banjo, the master can do a much better job of forcing fluid down to the slave. -
Northeastern residents...what were you doing 10 years ago?

We were kept bust trying to keep the meat cold,,, and succeeded, with the occasional blurp of hydro that manged to come through just at the right times. At the market we were the only ones to sell any meat as we had had the forethought of having a voltage converter in each truck and so ran our scales. Our competition didn't even dare to ask to share our unit, so we just kept selling, alone,,, had they asked, they would have been welcome, but we were way too busy to even take notice. -
Reserve Bank of Australia. Right off the internet, so that must be it!

whats this plug for?
Marcarl replied to Black wing's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
His would be red, don't you know!!! After all he's not from Indiana, unless of course they moved Indiana to Ohio, and then it would be orange. -
Glad to hear that you're ok, sorry about the scoot, but that is a chance that we take when we hit the road, isn't it? Ya, it's not supposed to happen, but it does and will, so we need to ready to deal with it when it does happen. Let us know if we need to help in finding another perfect ride!

From what I can gather, the concerns to AL would be the overall costs, the daytime temperatures, and on-site camping. Maybe for the on-site camping they would allow us to rent a room or two to have showers etc, but pitch a tent somewhere, don't know how that would cost out though. To me, it looks like Brake Pad has good preliminaries, the place sounds good, and the riding would be quite acceptable.

Thanks Dan, I added a few words.
