  1. Hey that is downright scary. Glad you have a Father looking after you. Just rest in His hands and look to a future of everlasting peace. The best for you two driving that rig, I would think Don will be kind of nervous as well as you, but with overhead blessings, you'll have fun.
  2. Brake fluid could be built up under the dust seal at the caliper.
  3. A lot of people ride bikes to beat traffic, and if that gets into their brain they develop a complete disregard for traffic rules and such. Sometimes it gets them into trouble when they don't remember some important things,,,, like,,, he is bigger than me, and if we collide I could be right, maybe even dead right. But then if he needs to stop more often he wouldn't be beating the traffic as much as he thought, so out go the rules.
  4. I agree with you Silver-T but riding in the right hand track gives the oncoming the idea that you will be turning off and so even though they might have you in their vision they don't really see you as a threat, so will easily enough disregard you. You're right that when a line of traffic is coming toward you, that next to the center line is a bad place, but too far over also blends you into the landscape or will give the fleeting thought that you are parked and there again you don't get registered into the opposing human brain and can get run off. So maybe best to move over to the center line, with the high beam on and all lights blazing, and that being said, get ready to dive for the ditch anyways. Always, Always leave yourself more than 1 out, preferably 3. In the right track you only have 1, in the left track you might have 2 or maybe not quite, so it looks like a dangerous place to be,,, heading down the road. Keep your eyes open, revise your plan and once you've done that, open your eyes and revise your plan again, and then don't forget to revise your plan again. Just trying to be helpful, and just because it written down, doesn't mean it's the law.
  5. 20,000 lbs ain't so much, heck that's only 2,000 when you divide it by 10,,,, don't you 10 friends, you could have invited them over for a beer.
  6. Can't argue with you Dave, can bother the misery into ya. On the other hand, riding in the right track on a 2 lane puts a feller out of, not into, the opposing drivers vision. Not that circumstances wouldn't dictate a change at times, but generally the right track is a bad place for a lone rider.
  7. Got Windows 10 last week, from a feller named Wizard765, so far it works just fine,,, maybe it's an age thing,,and oh, got me a new computer in the process, or was it windows in the process of getting a new thinker,, can't remember, I've been too bust getting things right.
  8. Yep, seems to be chewed up a little. Better minds than mine will chime in.
  9. Don't know why you would want the basket out. What is your issue with the plates?
  10. Moisture will get into the swing arm bearings, they are a type of plastic, and one drop of moisture is all it needs to do damage over time. I took the wheel off of my 85 and checked for play in the swing arm,and found nothing. Then later I decided to take things apart and low and behold, all bearings had rust and were more or less ceased. Replaced all the bearings and installed grease zerks so I could grease the joints and remove any moisture that had found it way in there. Also found that the shock bolt had wear so bought a bolt that was close to the right size and had a friend with a lathe fix it so that it replaced the original for shoulder length and thread length. Neck bearings will also depreciate with age and moisture. Like I said, Yammi didn't over grease these items and the neck bearings need to work easy and smooth. They need to be tightened enough to provide some sort of dampening, not much, but some. If you find the bike has a mind of it's own on the road and needs constant correction, then it's mostly likely too tight and it needs to be loosened a bit. By a bit I mean about as much turn as it would take to say that the nut moved. It doesn't take a lot to make a difference. Road snaking can also be caused by the tire. I had Bridgestones on when I bought it, and hated any road snakes.I then bought Avon Venoms and never worried about road snakes again, but that was before Avon had issues. Later used Elite III and was very happy.
  11. I think you may be a bit early with that sort of maintenance. Does the bike run rough? having mileage issues? If my memory serves me correct a lot of guys checked theirs at 60k and didn't find anything really to change much. I did my 85 when I had it out for 2nd gear fix and changed some shims, but nothing really earth shattering at 50k miles. Dealers are a wonderful bunch, but I often wonder if they really ever do a valve check, even though they might charge for having done it. There is no way to check whether they did or didn't do the work, and many may say: it runs fine so why go through all the effort. At 26k we would be doing nothing anyways, but we'll charge for it to make him happy. You may not need a lot of shims seeing as you might be able to exchange them one valve to another. My local dealer is happy to do an exchange for me whenever I might need some, that way they don't have to do that 'useless' job.
  12. It would be almost guaranteed that your swing arm bearings are rusted and need replacement, you may even need a new bolt made up for the lower end of the shock, seeing as I would expect significant wear there, unless of course that someone has installed grease zerks previously and they have been used. Steering head bearings are also something that need to be changed because of time, not necessarily mileage. Yammi didn't do a great job in the lube dept in either area.
  13. I would think it's time clean some connections I would also be temped to check the input at the coils to make sure they are seated properly it's a bit of a pain I know but it has been known to happen before You might have pulled on the coil wire and it could have pulled out a bit You should clean the TCI connectors as well and once they are plugged back in spray the connection with some fluid film to keep out the moisture Do not use any dielectric grease on the connections before putting it back together or the grease can stop current flow.
  14. If your rotors are warped you would get a pulsing on your brake handle when you squeeze it, a vibration would lead to think of a dirty spot on the rotor, bad piston maybe, maybe even bearings, or a bad spot on the tire.
  15. It's been said that we start out as child and end up as a child. First we get looked after by our parents and then we get looked after by our kids. Early in life we get driven everywhere and the later in life we get driven everywhere again. Somewhere in the middle of all that we get to do it for ourselves for a time. So I got a suggestion for ya Don. Next time you tear into that scooter, get yourself a cardboard box to put all the screws into. When your done taking it apart throw the box away. Then go to Walmart and get some velcro to put it back together, that way it won't take so long to do the next job. So you start life using velcro,, need I say more?
  16. Thsi si getting awya to involedv forme, i just use spelt cheque.
  17. In reality that should not be an issue, seeing as the rear reservoir has a bellows in it that take up almost half the resevoir, but if for some reason the bellows has a hole in it, then it can fill with fluid and present that problem.
  18. How many tanks of gas have you used for the test, sometimes 1 tank won't tell the right story.
  19. You could have went about town and found another scoot to take home,,, but hey, it might not have had a kick stand at all, and then you might have to deal with a center stand. On second thought, couldn't you just get Bernie to hold the bike up while you get some shut-eye? I've known her to be very helpful at times,,, uhh,,most of the time,,, well honestly, I've never encountered her not to be helpful actually,,so just ask her next time,,,,, you might be surprised at her reaction...or maybe not.
  20. Road snake issues will have more to do with your choice of tire than with the forks, unless the forks are toast of course. Anti dives only work when you pressurize them when you apply the brakes. I found the best solution for spongy front brakes is stainless steel brake lines and properly bled.
  21. Don't think your feelings have anything to do with age, because I have the same feelings. It must be the weather, or maybe the government. Maybe you should wait a bit and see if the ruling gurus change in your favor, they didn't in mine, but you have a better chance, so maybe you'll feel better tomorrow.
  22. Most likely lost the connection between the adjuster knob and the headlight frame or maybe the spring is not hooked up. Take out the headlight and you should be able to see what's happening, you might have to remove the frame to set thing right, kind of self explanatory when you see it.
  23. When you did the sync, did all the cylinders draw the same amount of vacuum?
  24. So much so that he might not have enough hair to cover it now.
  25. A good cleaning of the master is in order. Gunk will get into the return hole and block fluid from coming back from the caliper. I would disassemble both the master and the caliper, clean and then re-install. No sandpaper needed or wanted, use only products designed for brakes. Don't use any lube on the pins or slide areas, lube will attract dust and gravel and will cause things to bind.
