  1. Thanks Don for doing this. Yes, Yammer Dan was front and center, but that didn't make him any more important than anyone else, even Kevin. Like you said, Kevin just went quietly about doing his thing, one of those guys who was in the support troops and not often noticed. I don't think I ever did meet Kevin, but I'm sure I will when time for me is no more and we can rehash the things that kept us going on this earth. I just wish that ALL of us could look forward to that time of eternal peace and harmony.
  2. If all that doesn't work might I suggest to change the fuel delivery lines, being that they are 10 years old there may be some restriction going on. When you set the floats are you sure that the drain screws are properly open? I know, stupid question, but stranger things have taken place in my life.
  3. Save all your 'bad' fuel in a glass container to see if there is any water in it. Water will reside on the bottom if there is any. Put a bit of methyl hydrate (gasline deicer) in the new fuel to clean out any residue.
  4. Check your oil level, sounds to me like the clutch is sticky and lack of oil on the plates might be the culprit.
  5. My guess is that there has been moisture getting into the solenoids. The body of the solenoids is aluminum and so are the seats, and water will corrode the seats. Not a hard thing to do, is to disassemble the solenoids and to clean them. The hardest part is to keep all the screws and springs close to your work area so that you don't loose them. If you find a seat that is not perfectly smooth, you have found a problem. First clean it as best as possible using brake clean and lots of air. The get some fine steel wool, wrap it around the blunt end of a drill bit and tape the end onto the bit. Now insert the sharp end into the drill and you have made yourself a homemade hone. Carefully clean the seat with the described tool. Then more brake clean and air. In your process of refurbishing go whole hog and pull everything apart for cleaning, even the diaphragm on the exhaust tube, and the desiccant in the moisture filter. The desiccant can be rejuvenated by putting it in the microwave for a few minutes. It should be pink in color. Anything else, just ask.
  6. Hey Puc, this was written in 2007 when there were no membership dues, so that part might be kind of out of date, so I didn't post it for that. The reason I reposted it, was that I was going through some older documents, opened it and said to myself: Self, this site is still so good, that 11 years later this post is just as relevant as it was then, maybe even more so. Now if somebody wants to donate, that is also welcome, just hit the donate button, but all that will do is to take less of Freebirds own resources to run this site, which is not a bad thing!!!
  7. My mechanic is an awesome guy. When ever I need something he points me in the right direction, if I ask him a question he comes up with all kinds of possibilities for an answer, when I need help in some mechanical aspect of my scoot he stands ready to show me pictures and diagrams and even sometimes finds physical help to get me through problem areas that are too much for me. At other times I just need a sounding board so I stop by and whine and complain or just share a pleasurable moment with him, at which he throws all the tools aside and listens with an attentive ear. I‘ve even shared a joke or two with him and he laughs as though it is real funny. He has not let me down yet. Last year he gave me a service manual, no charge he says. Then he noticed that my wind shield had a large scratch and he found me a practically brand new one for 1\2 price or less. Through his efforts I even found some safety chrome that all my friends are impressed with, and then he sent me to a place to get all the exact light lenses that were looking kind of old. I felt kind of bad, him doing all this for me and me never paying anything, so I asked what I could give him for his time and effort. Carl, he says, it’s all no charge, but if you bring me a cup of coffee now and then, when you come past a coffee shop, that would be nice. Just thought I should tell you all about him, seeing as he’s such a great guy. Part II My mechanic has been a busy one lately. I’ve noticed that a lot of my friends also show up at his door asking questions, getting advice, sharing a story or two and making him laugh with some of their jokes. I just don’t know how he keeps up with the, now two, shops that he looks after plus his family his property. I sure glad he’s got some help with some of the locals. What bothers me sometimes though, is how long will he stay on. Very few of his customers pay him anything because he just won’t present a bill, he says it all from the goodness of his heart, and I believe that to be true. The other day though, I did leave him a little something so that he could maybe repaint the front door or maybe replace the chairs that we seem to have worn out by sitting on and watching him work. I’m thinking to make up a sign so that more of the other ‘locals’ will leave a little bit so that this winter when it gets cold, it could be a little warmer when we sit around and chat. I figure that with a little over the 3000 customers he has, we should be able to keep quite warm this winter. Yep you guessed it, MY MECHANIC is this site and if I need to say more this part will have to go to part 3. I really think that just counting the bike info we get, let alone all the other entertainment, comradery, prayers, support, physical help, and more, that we get from this site, we certainly would not want to forget to place just a little something in the donation box. Ok I’ve said too much, but it’s been on my mind and I couldn’t shake it. Now it’s done. Carl
  8. Don't worry none Bum, I had your back all weekend, and none of the recipients seemed any the worse for wear, fact is they were lining up to get the last ones in before heading out. You should have been there, hugs were a dime a dozen.
  9. This 3-4 day event can go ahead if we have enough response. So far the uptake has been minimal as posted on the calendar. Please check out the thread and if you are planning to attend, now is the time post it on the calendar. Riverside still has some room in the motel as well as the campground available, so be sure to make your reservation. Closing on this event will be this Saturday, June 09 at 6pm. 10. It would drain the battery, unless you added it to a switched terminal, then there would be no drain at all.
  11. So today I was quoted business insurance at half the price I was paying, well I'll be totally honest, well less than half. Got to say that the quote didn't quite have all the goodies added on that the last one did, stuff that costs next to nothing and we would never or very seldom have a need for. But LESS than Half???? we have been taken for a few years now. I think we will change!!! Gonna save over $6000 the next year.
  12. Might be something loose, or it might depend on the grease you used in the splines and final drive. What exactly did you use? And did you put the ciriclip back on the wheel hub?
  13. Wasn't me, I can see where I'm going and if I can't see then I feel my way.
  14. So would that be a V4 or a V-twin.
  15. What kind of coverage do you Mike?
  16. GOOD SHOT!!!! Hope you ducked Stardbog
  17. I do believe that we are going to be 'stuck' with you for a while. I appreciate your input and attitude and your comments will only help make this site better. To be able to understand each other, stuff needs to be put on the table for the rest of us to understand the situation from your end, and you just did that. Thanks for laying it out.
  18. No Problem, NP at all, it was almost bedtime anyways and Bob didn't seem to be ready yet, but then neither was you, or you didn't like the hard surface. It was a bit muddy I admit.
  19. I believe that Yamaha set it up the way they did, so that the rider would not spend time looking at the controller when they should be watching the road. You should take it apart, find the leak and fix it. In the meantime you can do some preventative maintenance that will be of great value to you later on.
  20. I made it home just fine as well, about 6 or so, forgot to look and remember. I didn't post any sooner because I wanted to leave room for the rest of you fine folks to do so first. We only got rained on in the Peninsula, and that was only so that we would be nice and clean when we got home,,,, not my fault that Bob hogged the shower and used up all the hot water. Met some wonderful people, I would mention the new ones I met, but either they forgot to tell me who they were or I forgot what they said, either way, it was not for lack of asking on my part eh!? Now that I think of it, I even re-met some and can't remember who they were\are, but they were nice!!! No Robin it wasn't you, and Yamah-Momma it wasn't you either! Time for MORE HUGS!! Thanks Eileen and Don, the grass was cut just right!!
  21. Just so that everybody is perfectly clear on this subject, Adam was not an American!! Now it would be nice if you two fellas would kiss and make up, I have no idea idea what it is you two are arguing over, it all makes no difference on a Spyder for when you twist the throttle, it's gone!! and that's what counts. But I really don't like the tone of voice that seems to bleeding into this conversation. So can you two get it together and stay that way? Please?
  22. About 7:30
  23. Then I suggest to take the motor out to do it, you can fix the 2nd gear problem while your there anyways.
