  1. I would check for a vacuum leak or a loose spark plug wire. If that doesn't work, replace the spark plugs; bikes are very fickle when it comes to fowling a plug. The spark plug may look fine, but will not run. I wouldn't go and start changing the idle or fuel mixture right away. I would save that as a last resort. They maybe off some, but I dought enough for it to run that crappy. Just my Good luck to ya.
  2. You're welcome. Rt. 6 is a nice ride. It has been several years since I have been up there. It was overcast when we visited the PA Grand Canyon. I'll have to make another trip up there again. There is also an old railroad bridge close to the Grand Canyon that is worth visiting. It is very tall and you can walk across it, it is a tourist attraction. Can't remember the details, I'll have to look that one up. Love the Finger Lakes. That is some beautiful scenery up there. My old boss has a lake house on Keuka Lake. The wineries are a must visit for some free sampling, but you have to pace yourself.
  3. How about Route 6, you can visit the Lil Grand Canyon.
  4. I went to the Maple Grove Speedway NHRA nationals on Saturday and it was awesome. First time for me and I'm glad that I brought ear plugs. I cannot get over how fast and loud they are. Television just does not give it any justice. 300MPH in the 1/8 mile in under 4 seconds, that's fast. It is unbelievable as to how much money sponsors pay for these guys. John Force (Castrol) was there (what a blow hard) and he had five (5) tractor trailers there, two of which looked like living quarters, one for selling apparel, and the other three were for his cars. I realize what all he has done for the drag racing scene and he is one of the best, but when he opens that big trap of his, it just goes right through me. His daughter was racing too and she really good too; in fact she was ahead of him when qualifying. I would have liked to have gone up on Sunday for the finals, but was unable to. Anyway, I saw a 2000 millennium in the free parking area. Was that anyone here?
  5. Did anyone go to Bike Week in Gettysburg last week? I was on my bike coming home from Chryslers at Carlisle on Saturday (boy was it a hot one) and saw a couple 2nd gen Ventures running around. Gettysburg was packed with bikes, I would say thousands, mostly Harleys of course. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Also they are having a motorcyle show in Carlisle July 25-27, is anyone planning on going? Here is the link: http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/ce/events/bikefest/ I think they are having a demo ride for all Yamaha Star Edition bikes.
  6. Would the FRX S2 Chatter box with 14 channels http://www.chatterboxusa.com/x2.html or the GMRS X1 Chatter Box with 15 channels http://www.chatterboxusa.com/x1.html be compatable to the CB on the 2nd gen Venture. If not, are there any CBs out there that mount to the helmet instead of the motorcycle?
  7. My dad and I do a lot of riding together. Before I purchased my 2nd gen. Venture, we both used the 2 channel Multi Sport Chatter Box(http://www.chatterboxusa.com/hjc_frs.html). My Chatter Box no longer works and am concidering getting a head set for the Venture. I am still unsure as to what headset to get because I want quality sound from my radio so I will probably have to dish out some coin and get the more expensive J&M headset. My question is can I communicate with a 2 channel Multi Sport Chatter Box using the CB on my Venture? I am by far no electronics expert, but looking in the owners manual for both, the radio frequencies are not compatible. If I cannot communicate with the 2 channel Multi Sport Chatter Box, what alternative do I have? Maybe it will be easier to have my dad purchase a Venture.
  8. I want to show my patriotism by placing some small American Flags near the tips of the antennas. What better way to show your patriotism by sticking an american flag on your Japaneese motorcycle. :usa: Does anyone have any vendor recommendations? I could probably pick them up at any flag store, but I thought I would ask hear first. Also how do you guys mount your ipods onto your scooters, the handlebars? Are there any photos out there? Thanks
  9. I live in Hanover, PA and work in Owings Mills, MD. When I heard that it was going to reach 70 degrees today, I decided to take the ole scoot out and stretch them legs. A 75 mile round trip has me itching to do some riding. BTW, turned over a whopping 3000 miles on the way to work this morning, works out to be 333 miles a year. Come spring that will change.
  10. I have two daughters, one is 6 1/2 and the other is 4. How old should they be to ride as a passenger? I'm thinking at least 8 years old. What is your food for thought on this topic? On the other hand, part of me says never. If something were to happen to them on the back of my motorcycle, I could never live with myself.
  11. (The one on the left, Rick who?) http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/?action=view&current=VWlll9-17-06016Small.jpg http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/?action=view&current=4-Corners9-06003Small.jpg What mufflers do you have? How much did you pay for the LED wing and to paint it? The cheapest I saw the wing for was around $200.00. I have a 99 with the same color combo and would like to do that to mine. I also like the white walls. Thats a clean looking bike.
  12. I know there are only a few aftermarket slip on mufflers out there for the 2nd Gen Ventures. I want something that is a little louder and am considering the Bub Slip ons, but I do not care for the exhaust tips. Does anyone have any photos of aftermarket exhaust that has the slant cut tips facing upward. Anotherwords, an exhaust tip that follows the same angle as the back end of the saddle bag. Like the ones on a Royal Star Tour Deluxe. http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/products/modelimagelib/413/14/1/0/image.aspx
  13. I spent pretty much a whole weekend in cleaning my bike. Although it definitely needed it, the previous owner was not as particular as I am. Washing the bike I use a car detergent, S100, wash cloth and various brushes. I actually scrub the tires with Bleach White. For stubborn areas like under the bike and calipers, I use Super Clean. You have to be careful with that stuff, put it on while the bike is wet and rinse off right away, because it will stain. I polish all the chrome with Nev-R-Dull (http://www.nevrdull.com/). It is a cotton wadding that comes in a can that you can get at Wal-Mart. I don't like using pastes, because they can scratch and get into nooks and crannies that are impossible to get out. Various stages of Maguire’s on all the paint, I hate swirl marks. Don't laugh at this, but if you have pipes that are bluing or starting to tan, use Blue Job (http://www.blue-job.com/). It is a very fine powder and works awesome, although it is a little pricey. Do you guys have any secrets as to cleaning your bikes besides not riding them?

    BRA?

BTW, what cup size are you running with that manssiere? :rotf:
  15. I live in Hanover Pennsylvania, which is about 15 minutes away from Gettysburg. For any Civil War buffs out there, it is a must see. There is a really nice Harley Davidson dealership, Battlefield Harley Davidson, which actually sponsors a bike week that is in July. I'll keep you posted on when the next rally is, maybe we can get a bunch of Venture riders to join in. Here is there website: http://www.battlefieldharley-davidson.com
  16. Yea, I'll get some pictures up eventually. Bill, I too am going to miss the ole' Intruder. That beast has plenty of power. My only complaint about that bike is that it is a 4 speed and am always looking for 5th gear. I think with only being a 4 speed, I felt a lot of vibration, even with a gel seat. Suzuki wised up and eventually put in a 5 speed on the 1995 models. I've had that bike for almost 13 years and was looking for something different. My first pic was a Victory Kingpin with the chrome package, but the Venture was about 10 grand cheaper.
  17. Hello everyone. Just purchased a 99 Venture on Sat Oct. 20th with only 2,500 miles from the original owner. Yes that is the correct mileage. It is Bordeaux Red / Silver. It is replacing my first motorcycle, a 1993 Suzuki Intruder 1400 (I refer to as the poor man's Harley). I have been looking for a Venture for a while and the price and condition was right on this one. The ride is unbelievable and I look forward to clocking many of miles. Hope to see some of you guys around. P.S. If anyone is interested in a Suzuki Intruder 1400, I have one for sale.
