  1. You left the Flux Capacitor on the bench! Never having replaced the stator in one of our majestic beasts, I have no idea what the Ooops is!
  2. Marlin Model 336, 30-30. It's not like I just decided to get one and it was everything I wanted it to be. I literally grew into this rifle. It's the first large bore stick I ever shot. It's the first rifle I ever took a white tail with. It was my Grail from the beginning of my shooting life. I'd give it up in an instant to get the man back who bequeathed it to me.
  3. I had no idea NC was a communist block country! All you Tar Heals need to step up and nip that stuff in the bud!
  4. At least for me, the spin on adapter is less about saving money and more about convenience. The filters available from any auto parts store and there is no chance of pinching the O-Ring gasket or stripping the bolt.
  5. When(IF) you find a competent, honest motorcycle mechanic buy him(her) a bottle of their favorite liquid refreshment, remember them at Christmas and keep in close contact with them for life. You've heard of the proverbial hen's tooth, right? It's pretty much guaranteed that the carb "rebuild" that was paid for consisted of hosing the carbs down with a can of carb cleaner and MAYBE new bowl gaskets. I'm surprised they actually removed the carbs from the intake boots, TBH. My local Yamaha shop has been extremely helpful and their parts man is a huge Venture fan and a wealth of information. I would never in a million years let their mechanics touch any of my bikes.
  6. Personally, I have never found a TV with what I would consider "Good Sound" onboard. Even a cheaper sound bar is going to be an improvement on the built in speakers of most of the newer smart TVs. I'm sure some have acceptable audio components, but none that I have seen to date. TBH, 42" is small for a 13' x 13' room, IMHO. Especially considering the prices of TVs these days.
  7. Those risers are packe pretty full of wiring. There might be room for a 1/4" locking nut. Maybe.
  8. I'm sure you'll find a good home for the old girl! The '89 Venture would be classified as a Gen 1, MK 2 If you message one of the moderators, or The Boss, they might be able to post a picture or two for you.
  9. I can highly recommend going to the spin on adapter. I never put one on The Beast, but I installed one on my "86 the day I brought her home. I'll never go back to the cartridge and cover. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Oil-Filter-Adapter-plate-83-93-Yamaha-Venture-Clear-Anodized/261045385834?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
  10. Thanks Squidley! I just ordered one. The Giyo pump is nice but the 300 psi gauge was a pain.
  11. Make sure you get a pump with a low(0) loss fitting. You will need it for the low pressure front shocks.
  12. I have a Giyo Air Supply, high pressure pump. The pump works well but the gauge is not perfect. The 300psi range makes the resolution too coarse for the front shocks. https://www.amazon.com/GIYO-Pressure-Shock-Suspension-Nozzle/dp/B07DZY529X/ref=asc_df_B07DZY529X/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312111916046&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15185693200910321551&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9015433&hvtargid=pla-568443844980&psc=1
  13. It also could be the battery vent, maybe?
  14. I assume we are talking about the black hose with the wire clamp and nipple on the end. That is, more than likely the coolant bottle overflow drain line.
  15. Today, in a bittersweet moment, I sold The Beast. The 1983 XVZ12TK that started this love affair with 4 cylinder, liquid cooled monsters. To be honest, she hasn't really been mine for about 3 years. I gave her to my son, then took her back as a trade in on my '86 when I got the Black Cherry 2006 RSV. She wasn't getting any road time and I hated to see her sitting there all alone and rotting away with neglect. So a new owner, a prior forum member, now has a resto project and hopefully The Beast will shine again!
  16. I saw a beautiful Blue 3rd gen Venture TC at the Westfall's Family Restaurant in Lake Milton this morning. I was turning around to go back for a look when they passed me going out of town. Any chance it was a member?
  17. Pucster! I just got off the phone with my local Yamaha dealer. They show the stator as being the same for all the Gen 1 engines from '83 to '93. The Royal Star Ventures are different. These guys have yet to steer me wrong.
  18. What chokes are you running? I never went down the sporting clays route but I did shoot trap with a Belgian made Browning BT-99 for quite a few years.
  19. Pops, WOW! Glad to hear you and Nana are OK after the blind idiot murphied you. I've still got the '83. I know the logistics are tough, but I'll put a little time in this today and get the plugs changed. I just returned from Manhattan KS, through MO yesterday. I doubt I could have squeezed The Beast onto my service van, but it might have been fun to try😁.
  20. If you have coolant leaking from the valve cover gasket, you have major problems.
  21. It looks like the Clymer's are available on ebay as well. I know it's not the factory manual, but they are very good service manuals none the less.
  22. That looks like a nice tent! It's a bit out of my price range! I would highly reccomend setting up to pull a trailer for extended camping trips. Kris and I just use a cheap Ozark Mtn. 4 man tent from Walmart. A good sleep system is a better investment than an expensive tent. Check the gun and knife shows or Mil Surp stores for the newer black Ranger systems. They can be had for under $100 in excellent condition and will have you set for every condition. With the trailer, we have room to pack the tent, sleep systems, a small folding table, camp stove, cooking gear, a large loaded cooler(on the tongue), air matresses, and even a HF Canopy to set up the kitchen. This leaves the hard bags for snacks, water, rain gear, and tools
  23. Shook out the moth balls, blew the dust out of the tail pipes took her for a ride. That first ride of the season is always invigorating!
  24. I can't beleive you can't get the NFA check with 9 out of ten finger prints. There has to be a way around this. If I cut my pinky off in table saw accident, I can never get an NFA item? Seriously???
