  1. Try squirting in some lock lube. Is there a lot of stuff in there, some thing hung up on the latch inside?
  2. :sign yeah that: I could have sent some along with him for the 14 hour trip with 2 small children in tow, BUT somehow I doubt they would get past the TSA. for carry on and would get picked up for sure in the baggage screening.
  3. Well since the Chinese have no problem printing "Made in USA" on the stuff they make, I do not see what will stop them from sticking a DOT on their LEDs. Is there a DOT website that you can look stuff up to see if it really is approved?
  4. WOW! But one has to ask, does all that stuff really need to be replaced? Is something expensive being replaced due to a tiny scratch that you might never notice if left as is? Would it be more cost effective to sand out a scratch and repaint the part? I can see where it those prices it would not take much of a crash to total it out once it is a couple years old. At least a 1st gen can take a nap either left or right, with wheels off the ground and not have anything worse than a scratch to the corner of the fairing. DON'T ask how I know this..........
  5. Ooohhhh yea!! Nuttin better!! Unfortunately the one beach around here where that is legal is closed to allow a new road, parking lot, and "changing rooms" to be put in.
  6. At least they use Celsius down there so when they report the temperatures it will at least sound like it is cool out.
  7. I understand all that, but even that dry heat can often be fatal, more so than extreme cold. It is a wonderfull event, you dont know what you are missing. I feel sorry for you to have never experienced one, they are so much fun. If all else fails go to your local DQ and ask them....................
  8. Put some chalk or powder on the sidewall of the tire to see if it is rubbing all the way around or just in one spot. If just in one spot there may be a deformity in the tire. Possibly a slight defect? Possibly not fully seated on the rim? Possibly a bent rim?
  9. I still do not buy the "dry heat" argument. It may be dry heat but people are still dropping dead from it. There are a lot more people and animals that die from dry heat than from frigid cold. just my personal opinion.......... Come on SNOW!!!!
  10. I feel sorry for you just because that is nasty. But you can keep that nonsense down there. I'll take a good old blizzard over that heat any day.
  11. In my classified add I just dropped the price for VR.org members to only 1800. I also lowered the price on Facebook, Cycletrader and Craigs. I still have no clue what to replace it with yet. I hate to go shopping and find something I like and have to pass cuz I got nowhere to put it yet.
  12. WOW I just looked at the spreadsheet, I have the one and only 1988 California Standard Venture.
  13. I loved my Desert Eagle in 50AE. It was a blast to shoot (pun intended). You do have to have very good shooting form, If you do not do it right the recoil can hurt you bad. There is a warning in the owners manual that says "CAUTION: locking your elbows WILL result in broken wrist", or something to that effect. That Desert eagle was my carry gun when tracking wounded deer, it could easily drop a deer at 100 yards. It also could stop a bear that decided it it would like to have lunch with me, as the main course. It lived under my pillow while wilderness camping. I had to sell it when I was desperate for cash and have regretted it ever since. I am now looking to buy another one, or maybe trade my Venture for one. But in the interim of when I sold my DE and now the S&W .500 came out, and that has me totally intrigued as being my deer and bear stopper.

  15. Pretty simple, You just need 2 jumpers. Jumpers are shown in red in the attached pic. First jumper can be any small insulated wire. It goes from the pad by the D20 mark to the copper area that has the CN1 marking on it. This wire will make the CMU stop telling you that the hi beam bulb is out. The other jumper just goes across the 2 wide circuit runs, this one needs to be a heavier gauge of wire since it will be carrying the full current of the high beam. This jumper is the one that will make the Hi beam be functional. This is just a WAG on my part. I wonder if someone had put in one of those really HIGH wattage bulbs to try to get more light, I know You can get bulbs up over 100W, This much power could melt things, That coil is likely the thinnest wire in the circuit so it acted as the fuse. Check you headlight fuse to be sure it was not jumpered or replaced with a higher amp one. Something made that coil burn up, about the only thing that can burn up a coil of wire is sustained high amps. also check the wiring to be sure none of it is damaged where that Hi Beam wire might be able to short to ground. You need to do some looking to see if you can find a reason that coil burned up. Next time it might not be an easy, and cheap fix. To get the screw mounting point back just epoxy that corner back on and maybe add bit of something NON CONDUCTIVE (like a Popsicle stick) over the crack for support.
  16. Not to mention that you could carry that gun to school so that you could shoot dinner (squirrels or bunnies) on the way home. Try THAT today.
  17. When you flip the rear end you are effectively putting the ring gear on the other side of the pinion gear. with given input rotation one side of the pinion is moving up and the other side is moving down. When you flip the rear you are also effectively putting load on the rear end as if the car it came out of is running in reverse, the gears are not cut to be used in this manor, on a trike you can get away with it because there is so little weight and less rolling resistance compared to a car. For the fluid you just need to figure out how much goes in there, and then just put that much in. You will NOT want to fill it up to the hole when it is upside down, that would be way to much oil. You do not need to check the oil, If there are no wet spots indicating a leak, then all the oil is still in there.
  18. That looks like fun. I have never been recoil sensitive, I have gone to the range and put 100 rounds of 300 win mag down the line and thought it was fun. I see that there is also an all weather version (stainless - synthetic) of the Henry 45-70. I think that would make an even better brush gun for going into the thick stuff after or during a snow storm to find the deer.
  19. For me it had to be an old Bulldog. the gun was so small I could only barely get 2 fingers on the grip and it shot 44 SPL. 240g. It is a 5 shot revolver and weighs nearly nothing. The grip is held to the frame with 2 pins and the trigger guard is a structural member. One time the trigger guard snapped and the frame, barrel and hammer assembly flipped on the rear pin and the gun with 4 rounds left was pointed at my head. I bought a new trigger guard and sold that gun. This is the newer version that will not point back at you. Now on the other hand, the most painful gun that I have seen shot was a guy that showed up at the range with a Lone Eagle in 30-06. The Lone Eagle is a single shot handgun. Instead of mounting a pistol scope he had a rifle scope on it, they do look the same on the outside. He was holding it out in a two handed grip and then just before he was to pull the trigger for the first time, he pulled it up to his face to get proper eye relief for the rifle scope, and touched it off before we could stop him. The optic of the scope just missed his eye but peeled the side of his face off from the corner of his right eye back to his ear. OUCH!!!!
  20. If you have that bad of corrosion to the battery terminal it usually indicates a battery leak. @yamagrl was the last person I know of that was making up the heavier replacement cables. Highly recommended upgrade.
  21. The Brake, Tail, Hi beam and Lo Beam go thru the CMU. If you plan to change any of these to LED you will most likely need to jumper the reed switches in the CMU or you will have bulb out warnings. It is common to have cracked solder joints an all PC boards on the Venture where connectors are mounted. The CMU is no exception.
  22. This is where your back tire is going......... Try 4th gear and see where it tops out. once you have used up 4th then try 5th. 5700 RPM is NOT pushing it.
  23. Interesting...... IIRC the Fiero front end was borrowed from the Chevet. But for $1100 it is almost tempting. ALMOST
  24. Very interesting. I am not sure if the printed plastic will hold up on its own. You may have to print it and then lay up some fiberglass or something on the inside for strength? I would think that once you have the mounting points, and interface points all located in 3D space then it is open season on the rest of the design, and that is where the fun starts. I would love to help out, I work in 3D cad all day, but my artistic abilities can be put in a thimble with a lot of room left over.
  25. You do NOT need to pull the fairing to get the dash out. Test that bulb, Motorcycle bulbs do not live real long, especially if someone left a finger print on it.
