  1. It is a neat process. It is actually a real silver metal film that is applied to the part. Silver is not quite the same color as chrome so the clear coat that is applied has a slight blue tint to get it to look the same as chrome. It also is not inexpensive. The price of silver is up there. It would help if you could reclaim the silver that ends up in the bottom of that spray booth. I don't see it as something that the average person would get in their garage, more as something that a shop that does restorations or body work might get to offer as a service.
  2. Thats good to hear. The nurse outfit and whips must be working......
  3. That happened to a friend of mine. When his house was built someone put a rock in the sewer line (city sewer) that caused backup issues years down the road. It was determined that the rock was put there during construction because due to its size and location there was no other possible way for it to get there other than intentional. The contractor that built the house ended up paying to have the the front yard dug up, the driveway dug up, and all of the new landscaping done.
  4. The theory is that as long as the unground side is the side running against the cam, it should be OK. I am also not planning to remove large amounts of material from a shim, maybe a couple thou at most to be able to hit in between stock sizes. Overkill, yes. Unnecessary, yes. Something to mess with in the cold of winter while PMS is doing its thing, yes. If I feel it is necessary I do have access to the stuff to redo the case hardening. I have many other uses planned for this machine. I will need an electroetch or chemical etch marker to mark the thickness after grinding.
  5. Well I started the cleaning process today. Yuck, What a MESS. The oil passages in the ways were caked solid so even IF someone tried to oil it, the oil would have never got to where it was needed. I worked on it most of today and barely made a dent. The last "overhaul" was more of clean off some outside grunge and slap on a coat of paint. They painted right over the dried grease and built up grinding crud.
  6. See if you can do this accurately. 7. I'm thinking I really like my city sewer and water. But at least someone found a use for liver........
  8. Go for it, I dare ya......... :stickpoke:
  9. Could this be an indication of the stud breaking off of the pinion? From what I read it is most noticed on decel and is fine under load. But it is a thought. Its not that tough to pull the drive shaft and check it out.
  10. Have you ever opened up your TCI to replace the diodes and seal it up? there are holes in the TCI that will let water in, a number of people have found liquid water in the TCI when they opened it to do the diodes. I have my TCI mounted inside of the left faring, the dust and dirt in there indicate that it never gets wet. The other solution is to stop washing it and if you get caught in the rain, don't stop or slow down till its dry. Works for me.......
  11. Hehehe I get my 330 ohm resistors, diodes, and relays bulk from Digi-Key, way cheaper. But then I know you like going to RS. I may have to get one of those time delay relays just to play with.
  12. I said zero even though I have a 1st gen. It is pretty much the same pump. I think.....
  13. You only missed by one generation.........
  14. Oh man that sucks! I really hope you can get your $hit together and back where it belongs.... I think that you should just throw your hands up and go out for ice cream.
  15. Keep in mind that the write up that I did was for a 1st gen MKII, the same concept will work for you but the connections and wire colors will/may be slightly different. As mentioned, do not waste your money on anything other than a Bi-Xenon light. You will end up being disappointed with the result.
  16. We could still use the rain up here. All we are going to get is the cold (Sub zero predicted) with no precip.
  17. HA!!! I'm probably the last person to ask for dress advice. Dress code where I work is dress shoes, black pants, white shirt, and a tie. I wear black sneakers, black jeans and polo shirts (at least they have 3 buttons), and I don't even own a white shirt or a tie. Little by little some others, including upper management, are starting to follow my lead.
  18. While I have not had any issues with the fuel pump on the bike YET......... In my truck that is also how the pump goes out, the engine simply shuts off like you turned the key off. After replacing a couple pumps at highway robbery rates I now change out fuel pumps as a normal maintenance item rather than waiting for them to leave me stranded. At least on a 2nd gen you can replumb to gravity feed while on the side of the road. My truck and 1st gen that is not an option.
  19. I'm running XP Pro and Fire Fox on 2 different computers and neither of them popped anything up. I tried back when this thread started and again just now. I have that site bookmarked.
  20. I sure hope this all works out for you. It may have been a good choice to take the car to the interview, after a special that just aired on local news where they interviewed a former HR head, one of the things that is done in the interview is that someone will go out to look at what you drove in. Things like a baby seat in the car can be a big black mark on your interview because it means that you will need time off for child reasons. Motorcycles also got black marks because it could mean expensive medical and time off in the event of a crash. You can't think of anything to keep occupied for 4 hours on those days...........
  21. Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
  22. At least it did not require a trip to Radio Shack........
  23. I do not know that your putting a resistor inline is making the same connections and circuit that the jumper/resistor in the flasher is making. The jumper/resistor in the flasher is probably connecting across 2 of the pins and has other connections inside of the flasher to both ends of that jumper/resistor to monitor the voltage drop to operate the flasher circuit. Connecting a resistor of greater ohms across those same 2 pins would still have little to no effect because the electricity will take the path of least resistance and ignore your added resistor. If you can see inside of the housing enough see the circuit traces on the PC board you might be able to determine if in fact the jumper/resistor is connected across 2 pins. IF it is connected across 2 pins then you should be able to put your 0.4 ohm resistor across those 2 pins and cut the jumper/resistor where shown and have close enough to the same thing. But not having one of the flashers in hand, this is just my best guess.
  24. Did you try to contact the owner of the PO box to get your stuff? I often have to play mail exchange with someone 2 blocks over that has a similar last name and the same house number, different street. He often gets my mail and I often get his. We have both complained to the post office to no avail. At least we are both civil and freely exchange stuff.
  25. I have a number of different addresses that I have things shipped to depending on what the item is. I have to have each of the address registered with each of the credit cards that I use AND each of the addresses registered with Pay Pal and each of the addresses Registered with eBay. Many sellers will only ship to the address that comes up on the eBay or PP payment receipt regardless of what you put in the instructions or notes. This is the ONLY way they are covered in the case of a dispute later on. Almost all stolen credit cards will want the order shipped to a non confirmed address. On every purchase I have to make sure that it is calling for the correct address. As far as your package that was delivered to your old PO box, I would send a letter to that PO box, explain the situation, and ask nicely if you can have your package back. Don't forget to give them your name, address, and phone number so that they can get back to you. They may be sitting with an item that they have no idea what to do with and if you do not give them a solution it will end up in the trash, or if it is something cool they will just keep it.
