You got the spot where to measure right where I did on mine and it seems you have 2" of lean more than mine RSV has. That is a lot so you might be right checking the bushings and also the bolt as condor said. Also check to make sure the mounting frame is not cracked where it meets the frame just in case. Let us know how this goes.

Larry, Lets see how much more lean you have on your ride. Measure the distance between the floor and the center of the choke knob. Mine measures right at 24". Hopefully this will help determine if there is to much lean or not.

YamahaLarry, My stock height 99 RSV measures right at 13-3/4" +/- from bolt center to where the pad meets the pavement. Hope this helps.

I have ridden on many great roads and a few not so nice, have seen some of the greatest landscapes and a lot of places I would like to see again but, on my coast to coast ride last year I was in southeast Colorado heading toward home and turned onto HWY-50 just outside of Salida. Came around a wide sweeping corner and to my right there were the Dillon Pinnacles . Had never been through this area before and stopped for better than an hour just taking in the beauty of the surroundings. These roads and the surrounding area is on my top 10 list of places to ride.

It sux not being able to get our to ride or for that matter much else that's fun to do. I've been fortunate I am still in fairly good health except the joints that are starting to ache a bit. With what you are going thru its understandable and I hope the surgery makes things to where you can get back on the horse soon.

Etohio, I have a 99 that I purchased used as well and it took a little bit to get used to the ride but love it. You will find it to be very pleasant and enjoyable bike, especially on long rides. Nice addition.

Badges? Ha, We don't need no stinking Badges.....but they sure do look great on the bike thou. Real Nice addition! -
Sorry to hear about the accident. Glad you are able to tell us about it. Recover quickly and you can get the ride fixed and back on the horse

The weather is nice and this pictures pretty much explains what I'm planning on doing this weekend. Hope you get to take yours out too

Looks like some of that Wisconsin road rust got into the treads and locked it up. Give it a good spray of a good penetrating oil like Liquid Wrench and let it set for an good hour then spray it again. If the nut is rounded get a couple of Vice Grips and try that. If that doesn't work???

Well that bites. Sorry to hear about the accident but glad everyone is OK, parts can be replaced.

I would wait for the first years bugs to get resolved then if it is water cooled and as reliable as our Gen-1's and 2's then...Yes, I would get myself a new Venture. If it is a roundabout knockoff of another model without shaft drive or water cooling or the things we all love about the Ventures...NO Would have to be a "Venture"

What you want to bet his wife won't let have a motorcycle so instead he drives a Big-A** truck lifted so high he looses oxygen when he climbs in. He is the type that darts in and out of lanes so he can be the first to stop and the next red light What a DIP STICK.

I switch to Volar Kevlar Pads and found they work great. Installed the rear only and have the fronts waiting until I need them. Got them of eBay at the link below. Free and very quick shipping. Real good price as well, $15.00 for a complete front and rear set. eBay item number: 371006225913 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1999-2007-Yamaha-XVZ1300-Royal-Star-1300-Venture-Kevlar-Front-Rear-Brake-Pads-/371006225913?hash=item5661b1bdf9&vxp=mtr

I'm still somewhat of a new guy to VR.org but have enjoyed the group discussions, tech data, and all the jabs and back jabs as much as anyone else. Don, you have done a great job orchestrating the masses and I thank You. Besides, from what I have heard not all VR members currently own a Venture so I see no issue with just continuing this as is, a great place to meet great people, Oh Yea, and to talk about motorcycles and such. I have faith that a new Venture will someday be unveiled so the fun will continue. Thanks Again Don.

I had a problem similar to this last year near Shiloh IL. Stopped for fuel and water and when I got back on the bike, a 1999 RSV, turned the key and, nothing. Worked the key back and forth a bit and finely got it to where it would start and run. When I got to a buddies house in Knoxville TN we started doing some internet research for possible cause. Found the 2nd Gen RSV's have had issues with the key switch contacts so...I sprayed contact cleaner in the key hole a couple times, let it dry, then sprayed lithium grease in the hole, worked the switch back and forth a few times and sprayed it again. Let it set overnight and it has worked fine 97.2% of the time ever since. The other 2.8% of the times I just turn the key back and forth a few times and Ta-Da. While in Knoxville I ordered a replacement switch on line just in case since I would be on the road for another few weeks. Still have it and take it with me, along with a drill bit and easy-out when on longer trips. Anyway try this and see if it helps, if not go back to the fuel pump. Good luck with the repair.

Here is what I would like my new 2015-16-17-??? Venture" to have. A V-Max 1700cc (or the new 1900cc V-Max) V-4, Water Cooled, NOT DETUNED, motor attached to a 6 speed OD transmission, with shaft drive and a...High/Low splitter type 2 speed final drive. Larger exhaust with true tuned headers pipes. Keep the CB, ditch the cassette, install a real radio with CD and Bluetooth, accessory ports, and hard wire an I-Pod/MP3 hookup into one of the saddle bags. Strong speakers front and rear. Add power ports to both bags and in the tour pack. LED Lighting for everything including a factory LED passing light option. Keep the Air Ride suspension but make it adjustable from on the bike, not the gas station. Color options: Solids and Two Tones and maybe even some graphics options. Comfortable, ergonomically, well designed seats with a couple of color options. Full 5 year, unlimited mileage, tip to taillight warranty. Build it right and let everyone know it. Don't go cheap and cut the warranty like some of the others are doing. I would also like to be one of the "3rd Generation Venture Test Riders" that gets free use for a year, or two, to test ride it around the country. -

Mike, Thanks for posting. Always terrible to hear this type of news. Do you know if GoFundMe accepts PayPal or if not would they have another donation link on the Star Chapter site. I don't like using a cards for donations. Thanks.

Glad you are still around to tell us about it. A bike and its parts can be replace, People, not so much. Our thoughts and prayers are with you while you go through surgery and the recovery process. Get well and ride again.

OK, I hate to be a dropout but if I an going to attend the Venture West Rally, then the International Rally, then head to Tennessee to meet up with friends start our yearly long ride I will not be able to attend Freebirds MD. With that said I have a room with 2 beds reserved at the Comfort Suites and if anyone wants this room let me know and I will contact the hotel and let them know you can have it. If no one responds prior to 3 weeks before the MD I will cancel my reservations. Sorry I cannot make it since this sounded like a good time to get together and have fun while helping others, maybe next year.
