  1. partzilla.com or many other motorcycle parts houses
  2. Check the classified section.
  3. Oh NO! I'm sorry to hear that. Good luck with the repair!
  4. I haven't ridden one, but from what I've read the K1200LT is very top heavy.
  5. A tall seat is not so bad when the bike is lighter. My Kawasaki is about 500 lbs and I have no fear of dropping it at all riding or pushing it. I can push it around the garage, turn it around in the driveway and I can handle it just fine. I'm afraid to push my Venture around because the possibility of dropping it is very high. It hasn't happened yet but I live in fear of dropping it. The 2004 Kawasaki Concours I owned for a couple of years weighed about 660lbs. I could push it around and turn it without worrying too much about dropping it. But it was so top heavy and that combined with a 26 degree rake made it very hard to ride slowly. It had over a 30" seat height but that didn't bother me and I have a 29" inseam. I did drop it on my foot breaking a bone that caused blood clots in my leg. My wife said, "get rid of that daxx bike." So, I did. A sport tourer does have some good features though. But, for an old guy, it may not be good to fold your legs up as much as they require.
  6. All 5.4L Ford V8s from 2004 on were 3 valve engines and in the F150s and Expeditions they had variable cam timing. The problem these engines had with breaking the two piece spark plugs when they were removed was fixed in 2009. Hopefully, the VCT issues were improved over the years of production. Part of the cause for the VCT issues was neglecting oil changes. Sludge would build up and restrict oil flow to the VCT and cause excessive wear and sometimes metal particles in the oil would cause an engine failure. The 5.4L V8s used in commercial trucks did not have VCT. I don't think I'd be worried if I had a 2014 5.4L. It's a beautiful SUV by the way! The F150s got the 5.0L V8 in 2011 and it has proven to be a solid engine. The Expeditions got the 3.5L V6 Ecoboost engine in 2015.
  7. I suggest a gym membership. I am not a member but I do some exercises and walk 50 minutes at a brisk pace 3 times a week. Bottom line is that at 73, I'm as strong as my 39 yr old son who is 6' 3" tall and weighs 200 lbs. Take a look at the BMW R1200RT. I think it weighs about 550 lbs with 110hp and is supposed to be a comfortable tourer with an upright seating position. It does not have a cruiser riding position though if that is what you prefer. I've only ridden 3 touring bikes, a 2002 Kawasaki Voyager, a 2006 Honda Goldwing, and my current 89 Yamaha Venture. In my opinion, the GW is head and shoulders about the other two in how easy it is to maneuver at slow speeds. The low center of gravity means a lot.
  8. In the small town in NC I grew up in, the local gas stations would run charge accounts for the locals and all of them wound up with $60k to $80k of uncollectable debt. One of those owners was a good friend and another was my brother-in-law. There were more.
  9. And there are new leftovers still available!

  11. He's making the case for his newly designed replacement shock. His shock makes the wing stiffer in the front than the rear. Don't know which is the most preferrable.
  12. I have never bought an extended warranty and never will. It's an insurance policy and the odds are in favor of the ins co. But, if you have no savings and may not be able to pay for a large repair, perhaps it's okay. I bought a used Ford Clubwagon some years ago and the dealer quoted a price for an extended warranty. I cracked the guy up when I told him that if it cost me that much in repairs over the warranty period I would take it out in the woods and shoot it between the headlights! LOL!
  13. Keep in mind that 4.3 ft lbs means a force of 4.3 lbs pulling at the end of a 1 foot long wrench. It's enough for a M6.
  14. Looks like the Batmobile!

    Big Hail

Wow! If you didn't have a helmet, you'd be killed for sure.
  16. I have bought it at Walmart but it's been a while. https://www.google.com/search?q=simple+green+degreaser&oq=simple+green&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l5.8343j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
  17. Yeah, when I was stationed in South Korea in 1969 & 70, I found out what they used for fertilizer in the rice paddies!
  18. Man! I feel for you! That sounds like a really tough, (crappy) job. I think I would just bite the bullet and call a pro to git-er-done. Time is something to consider too. How long will it be before you can use your home again?
  19. While you are thinking about it , keep spraying it with penetrating oil.
  20. Looks like a good project with spare parts.
  21. I think every time I've ever tried to use an EZ out, it snapped off. Just replace the master cyl. Plenty of parts bikes out there. I bet a member has one in his garage. Maybe cowpuc? I did something similar with mine and bought another master cylinder from a member. Just irritating, not consequential.
  22. yeah, the old Dr. Atkins diet does work. Eat fat, protein, and veges with no carbs. I tried it a couple times but it's really hard to give up bread, potatoes, rice, and anything with sugar. When I was on that diet, I started looking at labels and I realized that almost everything has sugar added to it, ketchup, mayonnaise, almost every prepared food. What really irritates me is that the local Smithfield's Barbecue restaurants have loaded up their slaw with sugar. It's sickening to me.
  23. After going to their web site and reading the article, I see that only 2 of the bikes are water cooled, the BMW and the Kawasaki. The Kawasaki is the second lightest and has a dry clutch as well as being the least expensive by a lot. If I was into baggers which I am not or at least at this time, I think I'd have to take a hard look at the Kawasaki.
  24. Maybe they were concerned some of the biker gangs would show up. The Hells Angels are still active in Chicago aren't they? I was watching a tv show the other day entitiled "Biker Chicks". The main person they were talking about first married one of the leaders of the Mongols. The Mongols were having a turf war with the Outlaws in FL and he was killed in his garage while working on a bike. They showed a photo of the guy in his garage and a Gen I Venture was in the background of the photo in his garage!!
