Tires- No Debate!! Just a poll that's all.
Rolltide replied to ENG2242's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
MC 2 rear and 130 on front switched from Metzlers which was great on front and so so back. Can't comment on mileage yet as I have not ran past 5k yet. -

Another example of police over using their power before knowing all the facts.

Alabama has open carry with a permit, you may take anywhere but schools, courthouse and other government buildings. Permit fee is just another form of taxation, because I asked when picking mine up what the money was used for and the lady couldn't tell me?

Greatly improved handling
Rolltide replied to Rolltide's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I ride mostly one up w/ 19 psi in rear and 0 front, and I agree with the slight squirrely feel especially when tire was brand new. I allowed for the break in period and adjusted air to 39 front and 40 rear. I have not rode two up yet but expect a large improvement over stock set up. -
Finished my winter maintenance and mods about six weeks ago and love the handling. In '13 I changed levelling links and noticed some improvement in handling with them alone. This year I was due for a new front tire and loved the Michelin Commander II that was installed late previous season on the rear, and decided to go with the Michelin Commander II 130/90 16. This is after multiple sets of Metzlers front and rear. I also installed the 1.5" risers found at Dennis Kirk, and changed the front fork oil to a 85% 15w, 15% 10w for a best guess 12/13w synthetic fork oil blend. The pulling when starting out, the low speed handling issues, and the heavy breaking nose dive, all have gone away. The bike is easier to push backward when seated also and it feels 150# lighter over all. I highly recommend this set up and think this should be how it comes new/stock.

Changing the fork oil was on my list of "needs done" this winter. I went with 15w synthetic and I was looking to slow down the nose drive under braking. I run with 0 air in forks also. I'm very pleased with the results. As far as how much oil to refill with it takes 552cc in each fork. I bought a tool for this from Dennis Kirk and made it very easy.

Still running original pump at 32K.

Thanks for the advice and link. This system reminds me of the air systems that GM put on cars in the eighties.

Engine will backfire on deceleration sometimes. Dealer synchronized carbs and will still do it. Read about an AIS system and a post on how to fully plug. Can't seem to find can anyone help?

If legal, the taxes taken would be misused as with most and keep it away from the kids.

There is a spring on the right side that creates friction and holds it close or open as far as I can tell.

opinions on adding chrome goodies?
Rolltide replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
:bighug:Sky's the limit when it comes to adding chrome. I myself bought all OEM chrome on my 09 RSV except for a phone holder. Looked at others and feel that Yamaha chrome is thicker than aftermarket. Looking back I do have one regret, there were OEM items available then that are discontinued now, oh well. Just my 2¢ worth........ have fun dressin her up. -
Does anyone have a drawing/plans for use when jacking a RSV correctly by the frame? I thought I saw a thread a few weeks back but can't find again.
-
I am on my second set w/28k on my RSV. First set replaced at right about 10k front and rear. No cupping or cracks, mostly one up, and ran on Metzlers recommended air pressures. I would buy again.

Kevin that's what I was thinking but don't know of any external switch.

The o/d gear dash light doesn`t always come on when in fifth gear. I have pulled off front half of faring and found no loose connections or broken wires. Bulb can`t be burnt out cause it lights sometimes. Any ideas?

Need a poll for second gen rear shock
Rolltide replied to CaptainJoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Most of the time it's one up, but even when two up the shock performs well. Wish stock shock had more ways to fine tune. 28K and working ok:cool10: -

Michelin Commander II Mileage
Rolltide replied to jmking42's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have a 09 w/26k and went through two OEM Dunlop rears and one front. When the time came for a new pair I started to research and found very very good comments for Mettzler. I bought a set and put 10k on the set and just replaced this spring. The front had about 25% left but I like the feel of new rubber on both. The rear was bald in the center and still road well. When mounted I paid an extra $8.00 a wheel, tossed the wheel weights and used Dynabeads to balance. Mettzler I feel is the best tire for a large bike, and the ride and smoothness is great. I would reccomend to anyone. I also would suggest going to Mettzler web sight and looking at their recommended air pressures. I run 48/50 rear and 40 front. -
Age is the same number as the speed limit when I started to drive. Looks like the boomers own this one.
