  1. saddlebum, All deaths are a tragic no matter the cause. I believe the point that is trying to be made is the extent that the "measures" that have been and are currently being made mandatory for entire populations are well out of proportion to the actual death rates when compared to other viruses etc. This is what causes people to question the reasons that these actions are taking place. I for one see far too many things that are coming to light after the fact that make me question the true motives of those "in charge". For me it goes much farther back than 2019. Argo

  2. Easy to do except mounting the front camera. Contact Steve @M61A1MECH on this forum. You will need two breakout harnesses. One in the rear to give you extra plug and play power for rear camera if camera needs power from rear of bike. One in front to split power from the 12volt cig lighter under left fairing. The front one I got from him and that enabled me to power up the GPS and xm radio from the cig lighter connection. Plug and play. I mounted the xm on the left handle bar and the gps on the right. I originally took the xm audio and routed it into the gps aux input. Then took the gps audio out into a simple wire splitter from the aux audio circuit on the bike. This gave me xm audio with gps audio directions over music. All done inside fairing. The simple wire splitter I added to the aux audio connection input at the trailer deck. Stereo mini jack and plug. Last year I took the xm off of the gps and added a passive mixer that has 3 inputs. I used one input for gps, one for xm and one to the aux audio jack by the tape deck for mp3 player if I ever need it. The volume control for mixer comes out of fairing and sits in a pouch on the tank. Right now I have an sd card in the gps filled with tunes, tape deck, am/fm radio and an xm radio. All playable from handlebars. Lots more to discuss, if you need more detail. David

  4. I copied and pasted this from a different forum but it’s of interest to ALL. Discussion Starter · #1 · 17 h ago(Edited) "Hey Gar...about me calling today, Yamaha Canada, and then my dealer to verify...(I want this Yamaha B.S. FREE!!!!)" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Story 'bout a man named, Jed".... Well, Gar, I just got off the phone with both Yamaha Canada, AND, my selling dealer to 'double tap' the truth of following information: 1...This is FRONT PAGE NEWS!---- From Yamaha Canada (and I suppose in tandem with Yamaha U.S.A.)....we are EITHER getting for all 2018 year SVTC owners, AT NO COST TO THE OWNER....a complete MAJOR system-level and (possibly hardware module) re-do of the 2018 model year Yamaha Star Venture T.C. Here's the 'skinny'....they HAVE the solution in house. Due to Covid 19 over the last two years, they have not had the in-house and Harmon-Kardon support they needed to finish the project, but are testing right now in their facilities in Japan. I asked if it was software or hardware (modules...the modules behind the right fairing cover...) or both. The Yamaha Rep could NOT divulge to me, as he was not authorized by the factory (Yamaha Japan) to give out that information, as because it was in test mode, something could still be added, deleted, reworked, recalled, and/or additional module modifications, or not, could happen. They are at that quality assurance and burn in stage. But..he said, that YOU, AND ALL OTHER 2018 YAMAHA STAR VENTURE OWNERS ARE GOING TO NEED TO GO TO THE DEALER, FOR THIS UPDATE AND/OR MODIFICATION. Gar...that you have to go to your selling DEALER...highly suggests that it is not merely an ISO download, or that because of the total replacement, that the software is too huge, or...that it must be a dealer level install to guarantee that the owner will not, or was not responsible for BORKING his/her, her/his bike...with no way to return to running service, unless full module replacement. This will NOT be available as a download ISO file!!! I then called the owner of my selling dealer...and he gave WAY more information, as they have also been notified, and in consultation with Yamaha Canada. Here's what he JUST TOLD ME!: "Joe...very happy to report to you, and I'm sorry that I had not called you two weeks ago...we have been swamped...but that aside, with apologies The GPS has been totally reworked, and fixed...they say, (Yamaha I assume the 'they' is...) you folks will love the new GPS, and other concerns have been also addressed. Also there might be added after year launch additional features." He alluded to, but could not say directly. I asked him if it were true that you have to book an appointment with your dealer...for this is not-owner installed, and he said: "Yep...that is necessary as we were told only that it was going to be a large overhaul, and might include RE and RE of system parts and modules, therefore requiring the owners to book into their dealers. This can not be done at home, by the owner." He told me, that he has repeatedly told them...that what was the current state of affairs with 2018 release year owners, his words to Yamaha( "is...total B.S.! They paid $32,000 dollars CDN, and you gave them a dime store software release. He said that why did they not just go with Garmin, instead of looking for the cheapest way out? That's what he said he told them repeatedly, and that he was caught in the middle between a rock and a hard place taking complaints...and not being able to remedy them for almost three years. So, while my dealer still does not know whether it is to be only a software installation, or a software and hardware module installation on the 2018 SVTC, it will need to be done at your dealer and most dealers he talked with, agree that it is pretty much pointing to a not only software rewrite, but the modules on the computer board that the software will control/speak to... So Gar....it's taken a three year journey in the SVTC Ark...before we will settle down upon Mount Yamaha, but...it is coming probably within two months (my time suggestion) as it still is being burnt in by Yamaha Japan. This, my dealer said, is not WISH WARE...they have the 'solution' (code for software, hardware, or both) but it will turn our rides, into friggin' Grand Tour perfection...and when it lands...so will the climb of re-acquired resale retention equity. I'm sure there will be a ton of YouTube 'after installs' stating that this is so much better, this has been fixed...'that' now makes the bike even a better touring platform, but I'll bet you one thing...that Yamaha is going (with the use of this update) going to try and recoup and repair the damage of their botched 2018 SVTC launch....and gain traction on Honda....and if they produce a perfectly working (as intended) SVTC...CB and all...it will be a sure slap across Honda chops for sure! Final thing, the dealer said that the rep told him they WORKED IN OTHER FEATURES as they could with a total rewrite. Dang! I think...if I were Yamaha, and had to to this...that I would make the Yamaha SVTC even MORE noted as non Harley, or Honda wannabe/clone. With a total rewrite..(for remember...if you add modules, and the software to run them...you can add ANYTHING to the SVTC...for being totally software driven, any feature (with supporting module) can be written in.... Gar....good times ahead....and I think there will be one chap...THAT WILL BE KICKING HIMSELF, THAT HE TRADED IN HIS SVTC FOR 'ANOTHER RIDE'.... In one of the songs made famous by the late, King of the Blues, Mr. B.B. King himself-----singing----->... "..it seems, you might have made your move, too soon!".... No more...the empty check's in the mail, Gar...my dealer was told, it is no longer vaporware,...they 'have' the 'solution' for the 2018 SVTC model year...IN JAPAN...and are at the install and test stage.... A few more weeks of patience. I already told my dealer...that I want to be booked in SOONER, than later....before the 2018 re-do stampede happens.... You might want to contact your dealer...and see what's up with the above info...on your side of the border... Yeeee Haw! (BTW, my wife had to come into the Den), to find out what I was hollering in happy 'naughty sound-bytes' over...and got excited herself, when hearing the news. She sure hopes that they got the Intercom/C.B. connection...DICSONNECTED.....and I sure hope so too. We always love to talk to the Knights of the long Mile..., when out during the night...to stay sharp, and enjoy the three-way conversation. We did that all the time on our 2000 Honda GL-1500 (which had O.E.M Citizen's Band Radio). Joe (doing the Irish Happy Dance)... Post Edit, Oh, BTW Gar, my dealer also told, me that they were advised by Yamaha Canada, to have me come in, and THEY would reprogram my FOB, as that (by his discussion with the Yamaha Service Rep, would be the solution for a 'wavering' FOB bike connection intermittent 'problem' before they will replace the FOB hardware itself. So that is getting done mid July....

  5. Hello everyone, I just bought a 2008 Royal Star Venture and I’ll appreciate getting maintenance tips as the years go by. My other bike is a ‘06 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic. Both are great bikes but entirely different to ride. I’m super excited about having the Venture … Rode for 100+ miles yesterday …Going for another ride now. Thanks for bringing me on board. Cheers

  6. BTW, has any one noticed Yamaha has released the bike again for 2021? Two new colors. I don't know if the update was done on the gps/infotainment system but the TC package is now standard. That's all I was able to get out of the release... https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/transcontinental-touring/models/star-venture

  9. So....I'm not too bad when it comes to the simpler mechanical stuff but am useless with electrical stuff......so I will be reaching out to some of my local RSV friends for some help installing some electrical stuff in the future. I pick up my 09 today. I will be needing to install a GPS, my satellite radio and I have a 2 camera dashcam type set-up as well. Hopefully somebody in my area is good with this stuff. Thanks guys. 10. Understand your point and empathize with it. Where is the same passion for the millions who have died annually from obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, pneumonia, flu, drugs, suicide, car accidents, abortion? Are they unworthy of your sympathies? Do they not merit concern? If so, what shall be done for them? Do we not sell certain foods to fat people? Or maybe have a card to prove you don’t have diabetes before ordering a piece of pie? How about permanent license revocation for 1 DUI? Have govt exercise cards to prove you are reducing the risk of heart disease? Shall we lock down & mask up every flu & pneumonia season? Where does it end?

  11. Just because it hasn’t been said does not mean it’s not there. The fact is the issue has been and needs to be approached without emotion and dispassionately. Emotions thrown in always tend to cause people to make decisions based on the emotion and not reason or logic. And before you say anything else, yes my step father is in the hospital with covid. My mom had it 3 months ago and recovered at age 77. My step father is 69 and otherwise healthy except being overweight. He was on a ventilator for 6 days and they took him off yesterday. He’s doing well. I mention this only because I DO feel, but feelings don’t rule over my decisions or actions.

  12. Your numbers are not accurate but part of the “hype” to keep the fear factor high. This is about control not about dealing with a man made illness. We already know factually that hospitals and Dr’s are being pressured to make a covid diagnosis. The pressure is so great that if I myself were to go play on a highway and get hit by a semi and become decapitated so that there is ZERO question as to the “cause of death”, and they test me POST MORTEM and find covid antibodies then my “cause of death” would be listed as “covid related”. The obsurdity of such a practice is nothing less than deceptive. It is dishonest and it’s only public purpose is to keep the fear factor high. https://freedomwire.com/cdc-new-death-stats/

  14. Ok so let me get this straight ; we have 38,00,000 with the flu so adding another 38,900,000 covid cases is ok even though we now have 76,900,000 sick people We have 22,000 flu deaths so adding another 637,280 covid deaths is ok of the 22,000 flu deaths how many had no underlying issue versus 38,255 covid deaths with no underlying issues I fail to understand how these flu statistics justify accepting covid numbers as acceptable losses. It only increases the number of sick people overall. Keep in mind covid does not displace other illnesses, it adds to the total number of sick people adding to the burden of our health providers. who in many cases due to either bureaucracy or cost cuts are already overworked. Also, I was not making a point of statistics but trying to point out that percentages are relative to the gross number involved 6% off 100 is only 6 but 6% 0f 1,000,000 is 60,000. Therefore using percentages to make a point or comparison, is mute at best. You could say 10% of regular flu victims die while only 5% of covid victims die but if you only have 100 flu victims at 10% that is only 10 people but if you have 1000 covid victims even 5% that is still 50 people.

  17. This where the political argument resides in me (no I’m not offended). My wife had Covid in January, normally any respiratory virus kicks her hard, knowing that her dr ordered the antibody plasma infusion and Hydroxichloroquine (spelling?) that Trump was ridiculed for endorsing and prescribed me Ivermectin (human tablet dosage). She came thru it better than the usual cold virus and I never got it despite no change in how we lived. Did the meds work, were we lucky, I’m guessing we’ll never know for sure but I was willing to take my chances with the future. Too many unknowns and I believe both sides are responsible for not being totally truthful with the facts.

  18. @ChiefGunner, this lady is advocating in this quote, you presented, to treat folks with "Ivermectin", an over the counter de-wormer for farm animals available at Tractor Supply. This is what Caleb Wallace did and what he advocated others to do, (please see the plethora of articles I have attached which mentions this). It didn't work. Aren't we past that yet. In addition to Ivermectin costing very little, according to the lady, may I also point out, that at this time, a Covid vaccination is completely FREE of charge to anyone wishing to have one. Unless you have some Ivermectin already around for deworming your mule, a Covid vaccination is the lower cost alternative for humans.

  19. They are only used when you open the float bowl drains and direct the fuel to the right and left side of the bike so you can catch the drain fuel into a container instead of having it go all over the engine. Your call if you want to replace them but they can be a pain to get to with the carbs on the bike as they are in the middle of the carb bank. Good catch, I hadnt thought about the intake boot being loose and causing the leak. Replacement are available if you think you need to replace them. Check out https://www.siriusconinc.com/pro-detail.php?pid=&product_id=122177 but they are showing out of stock.. imagine that.. Rick F.

  20. Hey Paul, Very Nice Bike! What a score to have it already have most of the items you would want to put on it once you got it! GOOD JOB! I too am not a fan of forward controls. That has kept me from buying a Second Gen. and most likely saved me thousands of dollars! Congrats on the "New To You" Scoot! Earl

  21. Yall ... please keep telling me the death of any antivax/anticovid person is just for fear mongering and that no such deadly virus really exists. https://sanangelolive.com/news/health/2021-08-28/freedom-defender-caleb-wallace-dies-covid-19 Yall.. please keep telling me that 74% of the 62% of 100% of those folks that get covid just have a really bad horrible cold with long lasting side effects (death) is just a figment of my uneducated imagination. Tell me again how falling in the bathtub or the effects of the common flu are much worse. https://sanangelolive.com/news/health/2021-08-27/famous-texas-game-warden-dies-covid-19 Yall... please keep telling me that the vaccination is in itself deadly or is just hooey and will provide no protection against Covid at all, when in my own home town that Covid is running rampent. 22. One additional note: I don't believe that many here will change their mind. For me it is never about changing someone's mind on their own beliefs. If you feel you need or want the vaccine for whatever reason that's fine. If you feel you don't want the vaccine for any reason that's fine too. But know this I will never discriminate or berate you either way because it is our own choice in the end. At this point anyone of us could be a carrier, vaccinated or not.

  23. I just found these quotes from recent articles: CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walenksy and others have cited studies saying that the vaccines don’t necessarily prevent transmission of COVID-19, but have stated that the shots limit the severity of the illness. and a preprint Israeli study that found that previous COVID-19 infection provides better protection against the Delta variant than any of the COVID-19 vaccines. “SARS-CoV-2-naive vaccinees had a 13.06-fold increased risk for breakthrough infection with the Delta variant compared to those previously infected, when the first event (infection or vaccination) occurred during January and February of 2021,” the study reads. Again, When do we stop calling it break through infections?

  24. On that we can agree whole hardheartedly

  25. I agree with your premise that both sides are open to being hoodwinked. The reason I posted that is so that BOTH sides of the argument look a bit deeper to try to figure if they've been fooled, or if they stand on solid ground. This makes me think that we must consider the motives of each side, certainly before allowing a non vaccine "vaccine" to be injected into their body. On one side there's the potential for a populace accustomed to government control, let's not forget $$$, and the further ability to institute authoritarian policies all in the name of public safety...."Isn't it all worth it if it saves just ONE life"...???....no....All being pushed to make people think they're bad people if they don't comply. What's on the other side?....A struggle to maintain individual liberties....the spirit of self reliance and rugged individualism that the country was founded on. Not much $$$ or opportunity for power / control in that. I believe that it's everyone's right to sit at home with however many masks on they want. They can order contactless delivery of groceries...stay endlessy distracted with Netflix....or Venturerider...or whatever. (Can't live without my Venturider fix) THAT indicates a struggle to hang onto life without worry about the joy of living.

  26. @Du-Rron There is a very valid reason why I don't trust a particular set of the data from both and it is a real simple concept. From the CDC, a memo that stated 6% of the COVID death total was actually due to only the COVID 19 virus. at the time Fauchi and the Media chastised anyone who made this statement. This is a Government Bureaucracy leadership blocking or trying to control their own data. Ask yourself why. I just learned a friend passed away. I spent many years working with him in Boy Scouts. He went with his grandchild on a campout with the scouts. When he came home a few days later felt ill, Went to the Dr. and had a severe lung infection that had become pneumonia. He became infected with the COVID19 virus and passed away a week later after that. Statistically he will be listed as a COVID death but from what we've been told they were not expecting him to survive the pneumonia. While listing him as a COVID death could be construed accurate it was really the pneumonia that was the largest factor in his death. BTW: He was fully vaccinated months ago. When do we stop calling them break through cases?

  28. Excellent write up Neil, and very informative! For those that didn't know, I had a triple bypass to remove a grapefruit sized aneurism. I returned to work in March and am required to stand on concrete 8 to 12 hours a day to do my duties as a Tool and Die Maker. Without Compression Socks, I would NOT still be working I can assure you of that! Now I am not currently using the fancy "Copper Top" brand, but they are provided by my medical insurance. They come in colors, and go all the way to my knee. I am shocked that they NEVER fall down, even during the longest days at work. After reading your review Neil, I may pick up a few pairs for weekend wear because the insurance supplied ones do look a little "geriatric"! Thanks Neil, for the thoughtful post! Earl

  30. You have to remove the side covers and the front lowers. If you have the OEM tool kit it comes with a double ended spark plug remover, and 2 or 3 large mm box end flat wrenches and handle. Slide the remover in over the plug and take the flat box that fits the remover and break the plug loose. Then take a length of 1/4" fuel line and slide it over the porcilan of the plug and unscrew it. The fuel line really makes it easy. One of the ends of the remover has a rubber piece up inside to hold the new plug. Put the new plug in that end and by hand slip the plug into the hole and wiggle it while starting the threads. This keeps you from cross-threading anything. Once the threads are started pull the remover off and grab the hose again. Thread the plug in the rest of the way with the hose. Put the remover back on and snug the plug down with the flat box. It sounds like it's complicated, but should only take about 5 minutes per plug. Some folks have said they use a thin wall socket... 18mm I think... but I'll be damned if I can find one. I'm sure they're out there but I have better things to do than chase down a thin wall plug. I put them in the same catagory as the 2nd Gear punch mark....
