But during this time of year there are 2 kinds of weather down here. They are "hot as hell" and "hot as hell, with rain". I would love it here as we have the best food in the world but, there are many other places that are better to ride than here. We also have good places to fish but these ventures don't ride on top of the water. I would suggest northern Arkansas for the beauty and rodes to ride or the Texas hill Country for the same reasons. It's true that there are cooler temperatures and better rides all around the country but as Squidley so eloquently put it : "Personally it really doesn't matter to me, curvy roads are nice, but the rally should be about the comeraderie of the group. Most folks will travel a few thousand miles to attend a rally so burning up the miles isn't an issue. From a personal standpoint, I would like to see a lot more BSing and getting to know folks as opposed to pounding out the miles on the bikes." The ride from most folks home to whatever the final destination is will bring us through some of the most scenic rides in the US. There are many group activities that can be had down south outside of riding and the city is designed to accomodate and entertain large groups. Have the two groups head to the geographical centre of the USA... My google map estimate is "OMAHA NEBRASKA"... Then have two planning committee's, East and West, and their job is solely to arrange the route from their coast in to Omaha, including sights to see(5 min. pic stops), an itinerary map so people can plan to join the group when it gets closer to their home/state, and assure that there will be enough hotels in the area where the group is spending the night... Then have two large groups converging together for a day or two, just to meet, talk, swap stories and whatnot... No rides planned or anything like that, the journey to the meet IS THE RIDE.. Everybody will be tired so just sit around, rest, and get to know everyone... Or the geographical centre of North America...... As the sign I saw yesterday, at Rugby, North Dakota....... Beautiful country, nice riding area, plenty of rooms at good prices, good eats, good shopping. A little bit of everything for everyone, even waterworld, amusement park, lake access, Silver Dollar City, and so much more. The rally is about fellowship and getting together with friends, but there are times during a big rally when some would just like some options. For what it is worth, that's just my two cents worth. It's beautiful country. The ride through Silverton and Ouray is spectacular. My kid wants to go to Mesa Verde and see how loud his pipes sound in the tunnel. San Diego 1,016 miles Dallas 1,397 miles Chicago 1,392 miles Thunder Bay Ont. 1,430 miles Seattle 875 miles DesMoines..1037 miles I did run into a map making tool, and thought 'what the heck'. So this is what I came up with. As you can see the majority of the Venture Rider Population is located east of the Mississippi, and even though Texas is the largest populated state, if you clump a few of the Lake Michigan states together and include the provence of Ontario with 264 members into the group it really makes a mass of members in one geographical location. What I envisioned with the International Rallys (and this statement is not about me) is swapping east to west from year to year. It's not realistic that the west coasters would have traveled almost 3000 miles to get to Kitchener. It's also not fair that way for the New Englanders to go to California for a Rally. I know this is for the contest, and we'd all like to be close to our own states, but I would like to see as many folks be able to show up from the North American contingent as possible. We will still have local mini rallys and such like Venture West and Ashville, but for the Big one, the International I would like to see it be fair about miles folks have to travel.....just babbling Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Only thing I can suggest is having it back and forward like Squid said, but has the last two International Rallies been more toward the north? There would be lots of bsing going on because there are no good places to ride and it will be hot as hell. All the hotels are full of oilfield workers but I have plenty of ground I can scrape a couple of acres of mesquites off for camping. If any pond monsters show up in my pond we can shoot em. You can all test your riding skill on the 1.5 mile dirt road going to my house. We can be as loud as we want because the closest neighbor is 3 miles away. Is this sounding like fun yet? If things get boring we can call in some coyotes and see if we have any shooters in the group. Heck I'm starting to get excited This could be one hell of a party. Ruidoso cloudcroft NM is a great area good weather biker friendly casino.
