I know this is the Orlando area but southern FL is almost like a third world country now with its high crime rates. I lived and worked in Homestead, FL for over 3 1/2 years. I loved the area and would have moved there permanently if it wasn't for the high crime rates. In Homestead, if your home or apt wasn't in a gated secured area, it would be burglarized on a regular basis. I got a concealed carry permit and went to a range to practice often when I worked there.

The solution is pretty easy, but I have not seen it yet.

Instead of motorcycle cops riding overpriced obsolete lumbering obese roadblock bikes we give jurisdictions fleets of modified H2s and special training/riding courses, or deputize already adept sportbike riders for pursuit. The age of CHIPs is long gone! The guys in this story have a whole level of wrong doing, well beyond eluding police or being dicks in traffic. Felony charges seem richly deserved in this particular incident, at least from what is sprinted so far. Here is another great argument for a concealed pistol for self defense.

Dont get me wrong, I have no moral issues with eluding police, at all. I do have issues with placing the public at risk though, besides the exhibition that seems to make motorists hate us even more. I find the best way to deal with cops is to NOT give them a reason to hassle you. The sad fact is that sometimes the bike alone is reason enough, and they can be quite hostile for seemingly very little reason. I understand why some folks run, I really do. Guys that do it just to be dicks and show off, not onboard with that at all, whatever they get is what they had coming. This is why I believe that we should rethink the liabilities of high speed persiut vs the benefit to the safety of the motoring public. To catch a Gixxer takes a Gixxer, yes? So far they are doing this with virtual impunity, so what else can be done? Could these guys have been caught if the officers had the right tools and training? Are there enough cops in a locality like that to cover the huge population in the first place?

I see only two choices,

1. Fight fire with fire (fleet of police H2s)

2. Watch the fire burn (on youtube haha)

IMHO, blaming an inadament object like a motorcycle for the stupidity of a group of terrorists activities is very similar thinking to that of the idea that a gun can come to life and kill people, wrong approach,, again IMHO. Anything can weaponized, even a stick that falls out of a tree and a gangster picks up and kills someone with it. The key to restoring law and order and bringing civilized life back to that area may be found in a simple refiling actions like these thugs took as TERRORISM and getting the Feds DHS/Local police involved in prosecuting those involved in the same order that our country would handle any other form of Terrorist activity = ship em to Gitmo and let em live on pig guts. This filth is a plaque on our nation and our way of life = no different than those who brought down the Towers IMHO..

VERY very very sad!!

To a certain extent I agree with you Case, I have been personal friends with a Chief of Police in our area for many years (was even best man in his wedding) and know for a fact that his officers were under strict rules of engagement when talking crotch rockets = do not engage, use the radio. In the case posted though, the criminals were not riding the drug runners scoot of choice - the Rocket - but were performing that acts of terrorism on dirtbikes and quads. I counted 105 gangsters on bikes/quads involved in the terrorist act in the video of what we are speaking of in this thread. In our area, if you are putting together a "ride" that includes over a certain number of machines (I think it's 25 bikes) you have to apply for a permit to do so. Most larger group gatherings like this one was, require a police escourt to be legal. This give LEO's a chance to perform their duties to protect both the riders and the public. When I first started doing the Sturgis Rally out near you (early 70's) the rally was more inkin to a wild west atmosphere than what most people would experience by attending any rally today. The reason that things have changed so much is due to proper law enforcement = you do Sturgis now and there are at least 2 LEO on every corner of mainstreet - a place where in the past, Metric Bikes were hung and burned. It is now illegal to "pack" during the rally or even show "colors" of any form. Get caught with either and its a felony.

IMHO, these bad guys are thugs, gangsters, terrorists of the worst type and should be handled as such.

Always the same... the idiots spoil it for the law abiding majority. In situations like that a water cannon would be a pretty good tool to have. Agree totally with Puc, inanimate objects don't kill. It's when idiots use them that cause problems.

Mob "anything" needs to be stopped & those involved punished & not just with a slap on the wrist. I get soooooo sick & fed up of hearing about 17 year olds committing crimes then they can't be punished (or even identified) "because they are minors" & "didn't know what they were doing". Ya! Right! FFS!!!!!!!!

Don't get me going!

Rewatching the video I saw 1 wheel stand 3 quad bikes, neither of which is legal on florida roads. I saw exactly one visible license plate. I saw multiple left had turns from the center and right lanes multiple illegal u turns.Theres enough to coast the whole group $$$$$$$$. I wish that cops would just start busting every illegal bike they see.

Yep, I recently read that the murder rate in gunless London is higher than New York City. Criminals will be criminals and buttholes will be buttholes.

I'm not in favor of LEOs chasing people at horrific speeds on any kind of vehicle unless the crime was really serious. I believe it's safer to let them go. They will be caught breaking the law soon enough. And now with all the cameras, it will be sooner.

The whole chase thing is a sticky situation. I've seen departments stop all pursuits, then it seemed like too many people took it as a get out of jail free card and tried to run from everything. I don't know the best approach to it. Lucky I live in a small town so we don't see these mobs run atv's and dirt bikes like this. With the number of redneckes with big trucks on our roads I think problems like this would be solved without police help. Enough crushed bikes would curb the issue.

Those are my thoughts as well but all I saw in the video were people closing their eyes and simply driving by. What gives with that. At the very least the cars could have blocked off the intersection and prevented more bikes and quads from joining in on this brutal senseless act of violence .

That's exactly what I could see happening here. 4x4 trucks crosswise of the street. They will run people driving in the left lane off the road, brake checks, etc. so dirt bikes wouldn't stand a chance.

As usual my friend, I largely agree with you. Fully agree on how to handle bad folks. That running stuff with bikes is a piece of idiocy I could never figure out, and still cant. IF I were (I'm not btw) running anything illegal my choice of ride would not be a 200mph crotch rocket, or an obnoxiously loud under powered cruiser, nope. Give me a 2013- curent white Honda Accord, bone stock, no tinted glass or silly looking wheels. That is a ________ running vehicle, one that is completely invisible with the right driver, and a decent payload to boot. It just seems so counter-intuitive to be up to no good and drawing as much attention to yourself as possible in the process. I ask myself way too often anymore "What the eff is wrong with people?"

I still have trouble with the whole permit or police escort thing, these are rules I would probably willfully defy, but I would not be kicking the **** out of pregnant ladies at stop lights and riding a 140mph wheelie weaving through heavy traffic. I wouldn't even run a red light en masse with other bikes. These guys are made of no good stuff and I hope they get the hard payback they so richly deserve. I do recall the bike lynchings in Sturgis, the dicks that did that are no better than the dicks in this story, noting the difference of course between property and person. Even as a misguided kid I saw some real problems with things like this, it went a long ways towards tarnishing the image I had of said counter culture. It's an outrage that a private citizen went to work and earned the cash to have a bike, took vacation and wanted to come to SD and enjoy the party and ride with everyone else, but noooo, we have to string his **** up in a tree and burn it, why? Because he didn't ride the "right" bike. I think B.F Skinner could best explain why we have become so vicious and cruel to each other. Between he and Darwin, so much could be explained. Human behavior often puzzles and disappoints, I have been alive just long enough to see some real changes for the worse. Stories like this effect me more than I would care to admit.

I dunno man. These big tuff guys that pick on pregnant and elderly folks scare me. Oh I'm shakin. What a bunch of low lifes. Good thing I wasnt at that traffic light with my old Dodge pick up. I may have slipped off the clutch.. NYC has a problem with these hoodlums too. Miami, to me since hurricane Andrew went down hill severely. A pice of PVC thru the spokes would fix some of them jerks.

The part that scares me, more for my children's and grandchildren's sake, since I likely won't be around when it happens, is the day when the numbers of callous terrorist's, Violent religious fanatics, punks and thugs will become so out of control that Police presence will become so meaningless (their hands are already tied more and more all the time) that the world will turn into an all out war zone and every individual will have to learn to fight just to try and survive.

It is interesting that the more lenient we become with convicted criminals, respecting their rights more than the victims how the world proportionately is becoming more violent.
