Daughter Back Home.

A few of you know my Daughter Abigail was admitted into the hospital December 27th with severe stomach pain. She was discharged last night when pain subsided. They don't know what happened because the specialist they needed refused to come to the hospital because it was the holidays. They kept her on morphine and wouldn't sign the papers to have her transferred to University of Michigan hospital where they said she needed to be. Been an ongoing problem for two years but usually only lasted a few hours so by the time she got to a doctor it was over and they couldn't find a reason. This time it lasted for 6 days, she couldn't eat or drink and she lost 12 pounds, and they did very little to find the cause of the problem. So starting Wednesday she starts seeing doctors for follow up so they can tell me they don't know why and they need to see her when she's having the pain. I better stop before I start ranting. Wish her luck. :bang head:

Wow my ex had a similar situation for years . Doctors were never sure what it was . some speculated it was her appendix but it never seemed inflamed . in 1981 she had 2 attacks that put her in the hospital the second time they removed the appendix and she never had another attack

Glad to hear everything is OK for now,,,,, and hey, it's doesn't hurt at all to let us know these things, then we can do what we do well,,,, and that is pray for you all.

Sounds very similar to what our daughter Allison went through for quite a few years,,, nobody could figure it out, but then nobody tested for celiac disease. Then some naturopath thought it might be something to look into,,,, and looky there, it was celiac. So now she is totally off of gluten and feeling fine, thank you very much. Gluten is in all kinds of products, you've got to read the labels. Wouldn't hurt to go gluten free for a week or two, and see how that works out.

They did x-rays and a cat scan and nothing showed up, but a doctor did say that sometimes an inflamed appendix will not show up. He described just what you did but the surgeon on call overruled him. I'm going to bring this up to the doctor she has to see Wednesday. Thanks.

Some doctors think that they are gods! Nothin but a mechanic that works on people instead of cars! In fact less than that because a good mechanic works on the whole car and not just a little part! Go after the turd with both barrels, its your daughter the pompos jerk wouldn't come to see!

I'm not a Dr. but went thru a simiular experience a few years ago.

Woke up at 3 am and felt as if I had been stabbed in the stomach. Pain lasted for 3 -4 hours. The night before I had drank 4-5 beers and eaten a lot of dehydrated apples and peanuts. If you dehydrate yourself, your electrolytes drop. Electrolytes are what keeps your heart beating and gives your intestinal system the ability to produce bile along with a miriad of other things. If you don't produce bile, gas will be produced and backup causing pain that is unimaginable.

Is it possible your daughter is dehydrating herself? Exercise, to much water, eating dehydrated foods etc...

I now drink 1 Gatorade G2 every day and it hasn't reoccurred since. Of course I haven't eaten dehydrated apples since either.

Hope they figure it out. But I'd Take her to a better hospital.

I know of a young lady who experienced the same. Periodic stomach pain for apparently no reason. The Drs. did test after test along with MRIs, cat scans, and a few others. They finally found that her gaul bladder was stopped up with tiny ball like pieces and after they removed it she experienced no more problems. I'm not saying that this maybe your daughters problem but it wouldn't hurt to suggest it to them.

There is another part of the bile thing too, fatty foods need more bile to digest than not fatty foods, your gal bladder stores the bile, if your gal bladder stops working you do not store bile and if you eat too much fat it causes problems.. Even when not digesting fatty foods, you can be constipated, feel bloated, and in general feel crappy. My wife went through this for years before they decided it was her gal bladder and removed it. She still has to be careful to not eat too much fatty stuff at one time but all the other symptoms have been greatly reduced, and even when she does eat too much fatty food, she doesn't have the cramps she use to get.

Haven't responded yet because every time I start to I get so mad I'm afraid of going off on a rant.

Took her to Doctor Tuesday and he also feels the opportunity to find out the cause of the problem was missed because the Pediatric G.I. specialist wouldn't come to the Hospital because of the holiday. Unknown to me at the time the Hospital called her Doctor who was in Colorado and told him about the specialist refusing to come. He then told them to call University of Michigan Hospital and have her transferred there and to have me take her. That is NOT what they did. They wanted me to just take Her to U of M emergency and try and convince them to admit Her without calling and without transfer paperwork. Her Doctor is on the board at the Hospital which will be investigating what happened. He also said the reason the Hospital couldn't force the specialist to come or do anything about it is because so many specialists have left the area and the state very few hospitals have the proper specialists on staff and have to rely on specialists that go from hospital to hospital at their convenience.

So my Daughter is on hold taking medicine for her stomach while her doctor confers with U of M hospital on what the next step should be. The one good thing is I now have her doctors personal phone number and if or when she suffers another attack I'm to call him direct so he can get things rolling in the right direction from the start.

Thanks for all the kind words and ideas (I did mention the ideas to doctor)...Karl

Keep after the doctor and if you are not happy find another doctor. I too have had similar situations and if my primary doctor didnt know the answer I went to a specialist, if he didnt know, I asked for a referral. I usually got taken care of but let me tell you they got money in their eyes. They want to make as much off of you as they can! I hope I am not sounding discouraging....just do what your gut tells you to do AMEN! You are in my prayers!
