  1. I occasionally see a post here wondering if something is a motorcycle. Going by my state regulations three wheels is a motorcycle so I guess this must be one. Jerry
  2. I'm considering purchasing a trailer and I'm new to motorcycle trailering. What's the difference between 8" wheels and 12" wheels as far as handling, wear and other considerations?-Jack
  3. Are there other Yamaha wheels that will fit a 2006 RSTD other than the Venturer? I am looking for front wheel only. thanks, JMAC
  4. Greetings All & thanks for the warm reception. You might say I'm catching up fairly quickly. Last week I installed the "signal dynamics" brake light bar. This weekend I installed the luggage rack & the saddlebag guards. I didn't even try to fit them on (the saddlebag guards). I drilled a 3/8" hole in the upper corner just above the original one. Didn't even remove the protective plastic until I had drilled the new holes. Everything fit perfect using the inclosed hardware. (courtesy of this site) I ordered the clearview XXL with vent. Yesterday I was bored so I decided to split the fairing just for the "grins". While I was in there, I decided to do the cassette lobotomy (courtesy of the "other" site) and I ran a new dedicated cable for the ipod which now resides behind the cassette door. Today (Sunday) the weather cooperated & I was able to con MaMa into doing a lunch run. It was the first for her on the new wheels and the first trip over 15 miles. I got a brief glimpse of what this baby can do. Wow! Mama was very comfortable. The sound & the intercom worked well. Better than the "chatterbox" on the old wheels. Life is good. More later. Thanks again for the excellent input. Dan in Denver.
  5. If you are going to build a trike with the two wheels on the front, you may as well do it right. http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2007/11/20/tilting-v-max-trike-by-tilting-motor-works/
  6. Sadly the museum is moving out of NC. http://www.citizen-times.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080225/NEWS01/80225027/1009
  7. Now ... I thought long and hard about whether to post this or nor, given what happened to Tom Patterson last week - if I offend anyone, especially, the Patterson family, please let it be known that the intent was totally the opposite - it was to remind us all of how vulnerable we are when we are on our iron horses. The link attached should be a sobering reminder that when we are on two wheels we need to be fully aware of everything and everyone around us. If we aren't, chances are that nobody else will be looking out for us. http://www.livevideo.com/video/landing/E737D6A3377A4C66A864957B8E39BE3E/requiem-for-a-biker.aspx The video is fairly long (12+ minutes) and does have some graphic scenes.
  8. Well Folks I have been talking with Nancy about the purchasing of a set of training wheels for our bike! Due to my loss of strength from Chemo treatments and also in consideration of Squidley's accident while visiting here, I feel it would be a good investment. I spoke with Frog Man on the phone last night to get his imput on the Voyager Kit (Thank You) and I believe that is the way I will go. It seems a little expensive for what you get but what isn't for our favorite sport! I can always remove it if I get to ever feeling better. I would love to make more rides and and meets this year and I believe this would make that possible. I know it would ease Nancy's mind as she is afraid I will be out and drop the bike! I don't suppose I will be able to purchase a used one anywhere so we will have to bite the bullet and get new! Just don't laugh when you see the Dog coming........... Mark
  9. I had a quick question. I am getting ready to start my trailer project and they have the trailer kits on sale at Harbor Freight. here is one with 8 inch wheels for $139 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=42708 and the same with 12 inch wheels for $169 Which one should I go with as I have never hauled a trailer behind the bike. If I go with the 12 inch tires will it sit level with the bike? Any help would be appreciated cause I am not quite sure which would be the best way to go. Paul
  10. I put the 83 on ebay , so much for the Winter project. Need the room for a new toy. Pictures to come soon. No its not an HD yet this one has four wheels.
  11. I just read some posts on 'Winterizing' our scoots, and am clear on all concerns except one: Having the wheels off the ground. Now, I don't have any such equipment that would allow the raising & holding of my bike, a few inches above ground so that its wheels aren't making contact with the ground, and I was wondering if it would be all right to place a length of wood beneath the wheels so that they aren't contacting the concrete floor. Please inform.
  12. Just bought the HF tire changer w/ motorcycle adaptor today, going to put some widewhites on my '06 RSV this weekend. My question ..... is there enough clearance on the HF changer to leave the brake discs on the rims or do they need to come off? I was planning on carefully working around them. I haven't taken off my wheels yet but just looking at the changer it looks like it'll be very tight fit with the rotors on the rims. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Larry
  13. I am getting ready to buy or make a trailer! I found one for $300, havenot looked at it yet. Has 8 inch wheels is 48" long 30" wide, Has a swivel hitch. I am looking at building one using the Harbor Frieght trailer w/ 12" wheels as mentioned here. I figure if this will run me around $300 anyways. Question, which is better 8 or 12 " wheels and why?
