There's a couple of guys on the other Venture website that are reporting some pretty decent mileage on their '99 RSV's. One guy has 192,000 on the odo, another has 155,000, and still another just turned 120,000, all with no major work done on the bikes to date other than routine maintenance. Man, I think that's quite a testament to these bikes. Anyone else here sporting that type of mileage. I may be riding this baby for quite a long time.

I posted this last night but accidentally posted it in the read only tech library, sorry about that. I mentioned a while back that my gas mileage has gone way south. This started over a year ago, long before installing the VMAX rear end. I recently changed the plugs, removed the K&N filters and tried stock again and neither of those things have helped. Today I will remove the Dyna 3000 and re-install the stock ignition module. Now the Dyna did not originally cause the problem but I'm just trying to rule out that something might have gone bad with it. Bike runs good, idles smooth, has great power. This is really baffling me. There is no fuel overflowing that would indicate a stuck or high float. So...I'm still looking.

My buddy has an "06" Venture as do I. We took a 350 mile trip together today and he got noticable better gas mileage that I. One tank we had 139 miles and I put in 9/10 of a gallon more that he did. He was telling me about how he modified his air box making the air intake hole larger. Also he took off the cones in the back of both tail pipes and drilled four holes in the baffell on each side. Will both these things increase your gas mileage and why?? Are there any posts here regarding both of these modifications. He was saying less back pressure from the modification on the pipes increases gas mileage and the carbs beathing easier from more air helps. Both kind of make sence to me, but I bow to the infinate knowledge of those here that live and breath this stuff. Thanks in advace for the responce.

I just rode my buddies 03 RSV, and his has much better acceleration and much better gas mileage. Mine is 99' RSV. Any ideas on where to look first?? I appreciate all of you members with all of your good advice and experience!! I have not synced the carbs yet. could that be it? It has 48000 miles and I don't know if the valves have been checked or not. It rides good now, but seems like it should be better. I am getting around 25-30 mpg. He is getting 35-39 mpg. thanks, Alan.. -
I'm about to go on a 3000 mile trip, but my rear Avon Venom has 10,500 miles on it. The rear tread depth is currently 2.9mm, or .115 inches. When new the same spot on the tire had a tread depth of .350 inches, or 8.89 mm. To me this is right on the edge of being able to get me home, and I'm leaning toward a replacement before I leave. Anybody have the mileage numbers on their Avon Venom rear tire they would like to share?

yeeeeeeehhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I cut my stock windshield down 3 inches and my mileage went up from an average of 40 to an average of 43.5 MPG...a benefit I was even thinking about : ) this is on the same identical ride to and from work I make everyday...same conditions, same speeds...I feel a little bit of a disturbance high on my head but it is actually helping me keep cooler, and I feel much less wind pushing me where I don't want to be or holding me where I don't want to be...I still look through the top inch or so of the windshield but I can now wipe the fog off when I need to or sit up in the saddle and see over it...I hesitated for a long time doing this but I am sure am glad I made that cut...

I've been chasing poor mileage on my 87 for the year I've owned it. GeorgeS has written more than once that holes in the slide diaphragms will cause poor mileage and are common at this age. I finally pulled one this morning and guess what - it's bad! (Almost looked as if they had never been removed before.) Several obvious cracks, light shines right through them. The slide itself, needle, and jet looked OK. They are SOOOO easy to pull on this bike that there was really no excuse to wait so long. What's weird is that the bike runs fine - no stumbles or hesitations, revs right up to redline, plugs are the appropriate color. Is this common, that they don't affect driveability, but hit the gas mileage? It seems like this problem would cause a lean condition, which isn't good for the engine but in some cases can actually HELP mileage... QUESTION: Are the coasting enrichener diaphragms also commonly disintegrated? One guy had that problem here recently - anyone else? What kind of problems will that cause? They are harder to get to...ughhh. COMMENT: Some have written, indeed I have done so myself, something like, "I watched the slides with air filter removed and engine running, and they all seem to be doing the same dance, so they are probably OK." I can tell you, this is NOT a valid test! In fact, just this morning, I repeated this "test" with a now-known bad diaphragm, and they still appear to dance the same. Can anyone help with cause, oil leaking from valve cover area, very low mileage bike. Out of warranty.

Not much posted here that I can find on oil pressure issues with these bikes. Read the oil level indicator post. Appears not a concern, but have a high mileage unit and wonder if there is any experience out there with this.

Interesting note from the Continental Tyre site on tire mileage: http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/de/en/continental/motorcycle/img/void_uv.gifMileage A tyre which can achieve high mileage is an asset because a longer lifespan leads to lower costs. The mileage attained by motorcycle tyres and in particular that by the rear wheels of performance bikes cannot be measured in the same way as that of car or truck tyres. Because the motorcyles themselves weigh comparatively less they are able to accelerate faster and during this acceleration the rear tyre slips. This slipping leads to wear on the tyres. A pillion passenger whose weight is mainly placed on the rear tyre helps to prolong the life of the tyre. The rear wheel is pressed onto the road with more force, thereby reducing the amount of slipping. The tyre therefore lasts longer. Side note: Now that I've got everyone running Avon Venoms, I'm thinking of trying the Continentals! I find some of the information on their web site about the TK17 and new Milestone tires interesting. I need to get more information from them - they do not make the stock size for our front tire in the front tire design, but their fitment guide actually specifies to mount a rear tire on the front! First time I have seen this from a manufacturer. Anyone here run Continentals on their RSV? Which style? Your opinions? Thanx, Goose
