  1. My wife gave me a pair of battery powered heated gloves for Christmas. I had my eye on a pair of Gerbing battery powered gloves for $199 but thought they were a bit expensive so I didn't put them on my list. So I was surprised to open up a pair from Hammacher Schlemmer. I was really skeptical when I heard they were only $25. I went for about a 15 mile ride this evening after dark with temperatures in the mid to upper 30's and I must report that my hands and fingers were quite toasty. They have a battery pack on the back of each one that holds 4 AA batteries and they are supposed to work for 6 hours on high or 8 hours on low. For insulation they use 40g Thinsulate. Even with the power off they are quite warm. I don't know how long they'll last but I think they were worth $25. Here's the link.. http://www.hammacher.com/publish/73123.asp DT
  2. I had some free time and I was a little bored so I took my bike apart. I've been wanting to get it painted and I was getting some run arounds from the people I had approached. One guy finally told me what the problem was: They've never worked on an RSV and didn't have any idea how long it would take to take the thing apart and put back together. The painting was the easy part. Another guy pretty much told me the same thing so I had given up for this year. But it was bugging me so I took out the tools and got started. Took me about 5 hours on Saturday and 2 hours today, but I finally got everything taken apart. I tried to be meticulous and place all of the nuts and bolts in separate baggies that I labeled where they came from, but I got a mess of baggies with nuts and bolts in 'em. Unbelievable how much stuff has to be taken apart to get to the nuts and bolts that actually hold up the parts I was trying to take off. Anyway, it's apart and now I'll contact a couple of places to get the best deal (note: not necessarily the lowest price). In the meantime, I've got one more week of school and then I'm off to Mexico again. When I get back, the painting should be done and I can begin the task of figuring out where everything goes. It should be interesting.
  3. Here is the thing folks. Before moving to our new hosting company, I spent HOURS researching, talking to others who host VBulletin forums, etc. I narrowed it down to 3 companies and then chose the one that I THOUGHT would be the best for our needs. I spend many hours over a two or three night period moving our entire site to the new server. It is not working out. Sometimes I just want to sit down and cry but I don't think that is becoming for a grown man. To make a long story short...I will be moving us again. Probably within the next few hours. I have once again secured a new server and am waiting for it to be setup as I type this. I will then migrate our site to the new server and will then change the nameservers again to point to the new IP address. What does this mean? Other than a lot of work, it means that from the time the new server is setup and then I do a backup of the current files and database and then move and configure them on the new server, we again lose posts that are made in that span of time of me backing up the old one, moving to the new one and then changing the nameservers. All I can say is that I am very sorry. I tried very hard to do my homework and make sure it would be a good move for us. It's just not working out.
  4. Well got started on her late, due to Artic trip and freighter generator overhauls, but I finally got into the tranny on Sat 29 Mar 08, and turned the key and test rode her Wed 09 Apr 08. All told the job took me 43 hours, split into 7 days of actually in the garage. Spent some time waiting for parts, 5 days for a bearing retainer clip screw. Broke when taking it out, and ordered replacement, actually still haven't got it yet. After 3 days I went to a Nut and Bolt supplier we deal with through work and purchased 3 new, allen wrench instead of philips head, flat heads. Much nicer than the originals, and way easier to torque in, no impact driver. The last day was a bugger, after all the sweat and grief getting the drivers floor boards installed, terminating the brake and shifter linkages, when I took her for the test ride, I'd put the shifter linkage clamp on 180 degrees out, so she was shifting 1 up, and 4 down, LOL, well it was 0300 in the morning. Flipped it the next afternoon, and took her out for another run, much better. All in all I'm glad I tackled it, got to know my ride very intimately, and the cost savings over having a shop do it were huge. Wouldn't recommend it for anyone who is not confident in there mechanical abilities to tackle it alone. The only help I had was the day I pulled the engine out, and a couple hours help the day I put it back in, all the rest was solo, just me and the ride in the garage. I would offer my help to any members in my area who ever try and tackle this one though. Having someone who's done it would definately make life a lot easier. See you on the black top. Ozzie:cool10:
  5. Well after longggg hours of uploading, here are the Mechanic's pictures http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanic%20VA%20ME%2020080412/
  6. .... and buy the Second Gen I just posted in the classifieds. Great bike and I'm really going to miss it, but there aren't enough hours in the day anymore. I would love to see Yammer Dan pick it up, but I know he can't handle that kind of power ! !
  7. It is official. My ride last year from Fond du Lac, WI to Charleston, SC - 1000+ miles in 24 hours for the SaddleSore1000 and the additional 500 miles the next day to complete 1500+ miles in 36 hours for the BunBurner1500 - has been accepted by the Iron Butt Association as valid. I can now claim to have buns of steel - no matter how they look in Spandex. WooHoo!!! RedRider
  8. So far I have learned to use pledge for "waxing, polishing" to save time, I will try that one.. My cruiser used to take me 1-2 hours to wash and dry, about 1-2 hours to wax/buff/polish, then a whopping 4 hours to do the chrome with Mothers metal polish... Wax and chrome done on separate days.. Too much work..!! 8 hours possible for a complete wash and detail..!! Now I will be washing the Venture, and drying it with my LEAF BLOWER....this works amazingly well (total time 30 min). Then I will try the pledge trick for all surfaces, guessing at 30 min's for this.. So my new total time for a complete wash and detail will be 1 hr...Can't wait for spring to try this now...
  9. Lowell sent me this picture of a "Texas deer stand" so I figure it must be his or Redneck's. Sure beats the frozen tree limbs I used to sit on for hours at a time.

  11. My wife and left yesterday about 4:30 PM and rode the bike down River Road (Mississippi River). Took almost 2 hours to cover the 98 miles, because of all the curves and little towns. Beautiful ride seeing all of the plantation homes and old houses. Ate supper at a little seafood restraunt we know, great local fare. and then rode home up the interstate. It was only 63 miles that way and took an hour. Suprisingly cool last night. What a way to spend 5 hours.
  12. After 9 hours waiting at the dealer (they estimated it wld take max 4 hours to put on the Flanders bars and braided lines) --- I REALLY LIKE THESE BARS AND NOW HAVE THE RIGHT COUNTERSTEERING INPUT TO SAFELY AND COMFORTABLY OPERATE MY RSV !!! Regarding the tech and his time, he is the senior guy and gets pulled for a lot of things....but there I was in the waiting room. Bottom line, he did fine work. MANY THANKS TO THIS FORUM AND TO RICK AT BUCKEYE PERFORMANCE !!! DREBBIN
