I enjoyed riding with you Rick, hopefully it wasn't the last time. Dale.
  2. About 5 years ago, my co-worker, Joe, was riding with his father in law. (They were on pedal bikes). They were riding side by side, when the father in law decided to accelerate ahead. During the push, his chain broke and down he went, hitting his head. He was wearing an old, retro style helmet, which was of little use. Long story short, he died from the head injury. I don't mean to offend anyone, but if you are riding a motorcycle without a helmet, you're crazy. None of us think it can/will happen to us, but you never know. We can't control the other idiots on the road, or other conditions we may come across. Dale.
  3. Wow, Scott, that was quite the story. Very descriptive! I sure hope you will be back to your old self sooner that later. It sounds like you are in good hands out there, and having your daughter as a consultant must be comforting. Get well, my friend. Dale.
  4. Wow, nice find, Doug! Now you have 2 beautiful Ventures. I look forward to seeing it in person. I look on Kijiji every now and then, wishing I could find another bike to play with, but nothing jumps out saying "buy me". I'm not sure how Barb would feel about it anyway, so it's probably a good thing that I haven't found a screaming deal like yours. Dale.
  5. The plan sounds like fun, Rick. If your trailer will fit a second bike, don't forget to swing by and pick me up! I'm ready to retire, but I will have to leave Barb here to keep bringing in the bacon and paying the bills . So, make sure the motor home has enough room for the 3 of us - I'm sure Nina won't mind Dale.
  6. I can't imagine what it must be like to be away from my family for that long. Good job, Chris. I'm glad you made it back safe and sound. Maybe we will see you again at the next Venture West. Dale.
  7. My wife and I were in Maui in February this year and went to this show also. We had a great time there. The magic was good, but even better was Warren's sense of humor and quick wit when interacting with the audience. We were fortunate enough to have been asked to sit up front and "assist" with the show, along with 3 other couples. Thankfully, we did not get "picked on" as much as some of the others in the front row. This was also a highlight of our trip there and we highly recommend it. Dale.
  8. Indeed you have been busy. Nice job, Rick. Dale
  9. This is a very interesting thread. I had often thought about buying a place to rent out to start a nice nest egg for retirement, but have never had the guts to go through with it, always thinking I don't need the hassle of being a landlord. Several of my coworkers have rental properties. One of them, just 2 weeks ago had a renter abandon the property while still owing money and leaving quite a mess and damages. Just 3 weeks prior, my coworker had done a walk through with this tenant , and all was fine. He said that each and every tenant he has had eventually screwed him, so he is now selling his place. The funny thing is, another one of my coworkers just bought a rental property in July and is currently fixing it up so he can rent it out. He was rethinking his decision after hearing this story. Also, my next door neighbor sold his house to someone that made it into 2 suites and rented it out. When I first met this new owner, while they were renovating it, I told him I was less than thrilled that I will be living next to renters. He assured me that they will get good, reliable renters in there. Well, it has been around 5 years now, and guess what? I was right. Every day, I walk by weeds on the other side of the fence that separates our houses that are over 6 feet tall! The grass rarely gets cut, and in the winter, it seems nobody is too interested in shoveling the snow. Dale
  10. Wow, that's quite a story! I'm glad you are ok. Dale.
  11. That's awesome, Rick. Tell Nina congrats from us. Dale.
  12. Last year, while returning from venture west, I lost my rain suit on the road somewhere . It slipped out of the straps I had secured it with on the trunk rack. It was a good one, but did get warm. Anyway, this spring I found one at Costco. This is not a motorcycle specific one. I now know I should have found a m/c specific one, as this one has no stirrups for the pants, so when I have my feet on the highway pegs, the legs ride up halfway up my calf, and the jacket lapel flaps in the wind and smacks against my helmet. I am now planning on replacing it, as these issues are annoying. Dale
  13. I wish somebody made a nice short antenna that would screw right into the original spot and did not need to have some adaptor or modified piece to make it fit. If someone knows this exists, chime in.
  14. it came as a kit from my local dealership. Comes with 4 liters of oil, 20w50, and the Yamaha filter. I checked it this morning and I think the noise is gone. I will continue to monitor. Dale.
  15. I only let it in for less than a minute, as the knocking concerned me. I will try it again in the morning to see if it is still there. If so, I will try wild bill's suggestion. Dale.
  16. Hi folks. I have just performed my 3rd ever oil change, and followed the directions, ect. After completion, I started up the bike to let it run then check where the oil level was. Well, after starting it, I noticed a knocking noise coming from the engine. I shut it off and checked the oil level, which looked fine. Tried starting it again and the knock is still there. Have I messed something up, or will this go away when the oil circulates fully? Thanks Dale.
  17. I have to admit, the stock antennas are probably my least favorite thing on the bike. They just look so outdated. I might start looking for replacement ones also.
  18. Wow, I am shocked I missed that! That was an excellent point.
  19. Hi all. For those of you that have the baggershield installed on their RSV, I was wondering what you like and perhaps don't like about it. I really like the look after seeing one in person on one of our member's bike during Krusin' the Kooteneys. Is there any vibration noise in either position? I read a review of a Harley owner that put one on and mentioned the vibration. Anyway, thanks in advance. Dale.
  20. Sorry to hear about you and your wife, Ed. It is a real shame that things have gone this way for you. Hang in there, buddy, brighter days ahead. Dale.
  21. What the heck, Brian? I thought you were coming to Krusin' The Kooteneys. Dale.
  22. Back to the original topic, I do wonder what idiots come up with this kind of sh!t. Who do they think they are helping? Years ago there was a story in the news about a Jewish Olympic figure skater that was training at a rink where there was Christmas music playing through the sound system. Well, some do-gooder decided this must have been very insulting and insensitive to this poor girl, and shut down the music. The funny thing was, nobody thought to ask the "victim" of this horrendous crime. When asked later, she said she didn't mind it at all! Dale.
