  1. Thanks for all the insight, guys. My wife will never be interested in getting her own bike, she is happy to ride along with me. I will get all the practice I can on this big beast. The weight is my biggest concern, so I can see how getting good riding solo would be a must before taking anyone along. One nice thing about this course is that it includes a "practice for life" facility that I will make use of also. Dale
  2. I did indeed read that post. I was sitting on the fence about taking a course and that thread helped make my decision. I just don't want to be like the Harley guy, dropping my bike several times. Dale
  3. Well, as I await taking possession of my new RSV, tonight I have officially signed up to take a motorcycle training course. I have not ridden in over 25 years, and several of you folks suggested taking a course. I have heard that you never forget the riding skills you once had, and after a while it is like you never stopped riding, but I don't want to risk my safety and the safety of my wife on that chance. I'm sure this will be an important purchase, not unlike a good helmet. Hopefully the snow will all be gone by the time the course date hits on May 18. Dale.

    Sunday Ride

I'm so jealous. We are under a couple of feet of accumulated snow here in Alberta, and it will likely be with us til April, god willing. Dale:fingers-crossed-emo:fingers-crossed-emo:fingers-crossed-emo
  5. I dont even have possession of my bike yet, but I already know I want one of those! Nice. Dale
  6. All those glowing endorsements are great to hear. I can't wait to take possession of mine. It's a wee bit cold and snowy here in Edmonton, so I thought it could sit in the dealers storage until march. It will still be way too early to ride it here, but at least it will be home and I can tinker a bit with it, sit on it, get used to the feel, ect. Thanks, all.
  7. I was just wondering if you folks that own a Royal Star Venture would buy another one if tomorrow you woke up and found your bike was gone, never to be seen again. Or would you perhaps look into other options? Dale
  8. You guys are giving me some nice ideas! All in time, though, as I don't even have the bike home yet. One small step at a time. Thanks for the input.
  9. I am awaiting delivery of the bike, so I'm not sure yet. It looks to me like Canada only gets the iPod shuffle. I assume there is no control through the head unit, as it is only an aux input, which I think is audio only, no control function.
  10. Hello again. I was wondering what you guys have got for accessories and creature comforts for your ride. I've heard of some nice comforts such as heated vests, blue tooth communications, gps, etc. and wondered what you all like ( and dislike, for that matter). Thanks, Dale.
  11. Hi all. I hope these aren't too stupid of q's, but as I await possession of my new purchase, I do indeed wonder a few things. First- what "generation" are we on now. I see the posts for 1st and 2 nd generation, etc, and wonder where we are at In the count. Second- does anyone still use the cb radio these days? Third- how different is the handlebar mounted fering compared to a chassis mounted one? Is it something that makes no difference? I'm sure I will think of more silly questions in the future, but thanks in advance for not laughing too loud.
  12. Hi all. As I await delivery of my first bike in 25 years, I am trying to prepare myself for various scenarios, such as the huge machine tipping over and having to get it back upright. I am wondering how many this has happened to and how did you get it back up? I saw the YouTube video of the but and leg method, but the bike they are picking up doesn't look as big and heavy as the royal star venture. Thanks, Dale.
