  1. Find an auto paint supply store. They sell decal removers. Basically it is a big round eraser that has an arborfor a drill motor. They work great
  2. Find an auto paint store near you. Take the part in They make several glues, mostly epoxies, for fixing different plastic parts on cars. I have had great luck with this.
  3. Please read this... http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/conversions/conversions.html
  4. Sorry but you are a little late. I posted a link up in the Ebay section when it went up there for sale.
  5. I looked back on Ebay to remember the year, but since the auction was too old the years is gone. Add said they were R1/R6 rotors, so it sounds like they fit either bike. Only issue ftting is the Chrome covers hit the buttons for the attachment from the rotor to the center hub, so I am not sure how much they really float. I also can't comment on if the rotors made any difference because I replaced everything at once. But over all I am very happy with the total upgrade I did.
  6. Yes I have. But not when I ran into this. This thread here would have worked. But all I could think of at the time was "what does the book say" So swingarm came off, and all is now good. But knowing of that access hole would have been MUCH easier than taking off the exhaust, taking off rear cylinder exhaust headers, pulling swingarm then figuring how that was supposed to be easier and getting it all back together. I think it was four hours my way. That access holwe should have cut three hours off that. LOL
  7. Sounds to me like it is getting one of those inputs to take it off cruise. Dirty or faulty switch somewhere. I hate chasing electrical gremlins like that
  8. could be several thing from this description When the speed clibs again to your setpoint, does it seem to hold at all? Falling off speed and going to resume says the controller is getting an input to send it that way. A brake switch, clutch switch, handlebar switch or if you inadvertantly turn the throttle to the close direction will all kick the cruse to this mode. Have them check the switches on clutch and both brakes as well as the levers here to make sure they aren't wiggling any and causing one of these switches to operate. the cancel switch would be less likely to do this since that plastic switch is very light. But if you hit it or the throttle it couls also cause this issue too. After all of that, if you hit resume while the resume light is on, does your bike pick up speed again?
  9. I just finished up the winter maintenance I did on the 1999 RSV I picked up late last year. I removed all of the radio gear since I didn't want it and I thought loosing the wight would be a good thing. While I had the rear apart to remove the stuff under the tail trunk I put a new rear tire on and greased the drive shaft splines. Getting the splines re engaged to the U joint turned out to be an issue, but the manual served it's purpose here. But then found I should have checked here for an easier solution than what the manual had me do:headache: http://www.karlsgarage.com/pictures/Yama1.jpg Then, since I was into the front to remove the radio from there, I took it all apart so I could change the fork fluid. While I was in there I also upgraded the front brakes and replaced the clutch line with braided stainless steel. http://www.karlsgarage.com/pictures/Yama2.jpg Of course I also took this oprtunity to clean everything the best I could. Weather prevented a longer test ride, but after 120 miles all looks set for a nice full year of riding. http://www.karlsgarage.com/pictures/Yam3.jpg
  10. I just finished the upgrade on my 1999 RSV I used the road star front Master (14 mm) Brake calipers from a 2004 Yamaha R 6 and new HH pads from EBC I had a local company make me some braided stainess steel lines. I am very happy with the results. The Master cylinder and calipers have been talked about on this site. But I also got the rotors off of an R 6 too. http://www.karlsgarage.com/pictures/disc.jpg They are floating rotors instead of the solid stockers. After just 120 miles for break in I can now stop the beast with just two fingers. I put a new EBC rotor and new pads as well as braided lines on the rear too. I didn't expect much improvement there, but did get it. I guess that old rotor was in real bad shape (It was groved some)
  11. This would have been good for me to know last friday. I had pulled the shaft and lubed it while I had the rear wheel off. I didn't know the drive shaft wasn't in the U joint until I tried a test ride. I ended up pulling the swingarm like the Haynes book says to do. Holding that U joint up from this access hole would have been MUCH easier. Cause even pulling the whole swing arm I still had issues lining everything back up.
  12. I bought the yellow Craftstman I went and looked at Harbor Freight and Sears. Jacks are the same price BUT, If you go on line, I got the Yellow Aluminum better Sears Jack for $169.99 buy getting it on line. I used in store pick up (free option) and i had it the day I bought it (And saved $30.00 over buying it in the store) Right now Harbor freight has their better jack on sale, for $5.00 MORE than I just paid for my Sears jack.
  13. Finally answered my own question. Got the shock off (was not able to adjust wihtout removing the shock) I cranked the Preload up, and also the rebound damping (Compression damping not adjustable on this shock) Ride is much improved. Still not perfect, but it's something I can live with now.
  14. I loved the narration and history of Chicago. Would have loved it if he kept the same amount of detail for other stops along the way. Could have easily been 15 to 20 episodes then. That's all I'm saying.
  15. Watched the first one this morning. was good But only 4 episodes? The length of time he took with the first I would think it would have been more to make it all the way to L.A.
  16. Would change ratios on the linkage. What is the new ratio and what spring rate would you need??
  17. Yea, I noticed the original date after I posted too. But I just joined. And others can see this and decide if they want to go. Isn't that what this section is for?? Cheers.
  18. I did it a few years ago. Here is a group of pictures I posted from it. http://www.karlsgarage.com/motorcyclepage/motogp/there/index.htm Make note of the bike I did it on and how I was loaded. Some washboard, but when I did it well packed and not too slipery. Well worth the detour I think.
  19. Did I read this right, you also used R-6 rotors? What year? TIA
  20. For those using the R-1 calipers on their RSV. What year R-1 are you sourcing these from? 4 pot or 6 pot calipers? What year (or did they) are the R-1 brakes radially mounted? Thanks in advance. Karl
  21. Bringing this back to life for a question. I just purchase a 1999 Royal Star Venture (guess I should start calling it a RSV) from a friend of mine. Has a works peformance shock on it. He rode solo always, I got this for two up with my girlfriend. The rear shock is WAY under damper for two up and a little under sprung. Any chance a few adjustments will fix this? Or is it rebuild and re spring time? Thank, Karl
