  1. After playing around with this fault I dont know what else to do...I guess I will never be able to switch beams...stumped...
  2. I work on old acvw's and the braided lines in the trunk need changed when they get old...The look fine but if you rub your fingers over them they smell and the smell comes out of the front trunk and into the cabin...I guess these old cloth lines do the same...I love working on vintage items:301:
  3. I would like to say THANKS to everyone that posted up information!! I cut the spacers to 1 inch and threw a washer in the mix. I put 10 W oil in to approximately 5.5 inches down and everything reassembled very nicely. Thanks to Freebirds post in the archives it made the job that much easier:) I even got out tonight and ran 50 miles and everything was that much better...I hope it all stays that way. Thanks again and have a great Sunday.
  4. Sounds awesome...I thought that is what could be done. Thanks a ton...with those springs does that change the amount of oil i put in??
  5. just tore down my 88 venture forks to replace seals and it seems someone has replaced them with progressive springs because they do not have the stock look...nor do they have all of the yamaha parts after the top fork plug... when I disassembled the top for plug these springs did not have any spacer, washer or plug between the spring and top cap... Now I need some senior advice for what to do... Can I make a spacer and washer...the spring is just riding on the top plug...Thanks everyone in advance.
  6. I am looking for a headlight...do you know if that is any good and what he would sell it for?? Thanks
  7. Just found out that Jake wilson can be found onine:cool10:
  8. Thanks for the info!! reddevilmedic...who is jake wilson?? Thanks
  9. I found a set or Dunlops -Dunlop-491-Elite-II-Front-Motorcycle-Tire--134.99 and the rear -Dunlop-491-Elite-II-Rear-Motorcycle-Tire--155.99 I am wondering if this is a decent deal or is there a better place to pick something up. Thanks everyone:)
  10. I forgot to mention that the light does switch from high to low beam...so I guess the switch is working properly...and I do have 12 volts coming out of the RLU on the blue and white wire (I think that is what wire the Yamaha manual told me to check) and that is what the manual said to have...
  11. You are correct that is the color of the wire...I went out and bought a new bulb just to make sure that was not it and as I suspected it was not...Low beam is just throwing the fault...I am going to try to clean up the dimmer switch and see if that works and if that is not it I guess it would be that pesky RLU...lol...old things are sometimes fickle:)
  12. went out and checked voltage coming from red/yellow and red green wires to headlight...on low beam both wires give 12 volts on high beam one gives 12 and the other gives4.3-4.5??? I would think that high beam would give more volts instead of low...Is there a proper headlight for the bike?? I will have to look in my manual...thanks for information on the voltage if you have any...thanks again...
  13. Thanks Gary that is a nice write up!! I am used to working on old acvw's with out many electronics...especially not a small computer system so I am learning as I go which is fun:) Thanks again for the write up!!
  14. I am working on an 88 venture and have a fault on the display...it is when the headlight on low beam....I soldered all the connections in the CMS...but when the low beam light is on the warning light is on and the display shows the headlight...any information would be great...Thanks in advance.
