Tomephil taking the long road to to the international
tomephil replied to tomephil's topic in Watering Hole
Thanks Bryan, I think the problem is ongoing for now. I just keep tightening the bolts every so often. Its too bad they couldn't find the problem with Bruce's bike but at least he got away. Its good to have a spare bike or two... We have been riding down some amazing roads but I am going to try to keep to the main smoother roads until i figure this problem out. Take care, Tom- 46 replies

Hey Sarge, I installed a rubber spacer between the handle bars and the rubber mounts. Didnt think of the hockey, sponngy puck. Very canadian eh! It seems to work for now. I took my bike into a dealer in Sidney. Great people but not much experience with ventures. I picked up a HD shock hand pump for the front shocks so will adjust when i get a chance. We are on a Newfoundland farry heading to the rock right now and they wont let me get to my bike.

Hey, Dano, Tomephil here. Our 84 redheads hooked up at the hub some years ago. Your redhead was and I'm sure is a great bike. I picked up a second gen but still have the 84. Hope the new bike treats you well.

I have no idea. I bought the bike last fall just before winter and seem to be fixing parts a lot. I am going to try to get to a mechenic tomorrow as i am a 1st genner who doesn't understand any logic on the 2nd gens. I hope the tech can tell me how what is normal or not on the 2nd gens.

Wow, and I thought yours were quiet after hearing some bikes after the zz concert! Cool

Craig and i put in some supports for the broken end tabs. I am going to try taking to a yamie dealer mechanic as i have no idea what is normal on this bike. If this gives the 1st genners an opening, i can't argue too much... As i write this i am having a carbonated beverage looking out on louisbourg harbour and that's cool. Take care, Hey, i don't see too many pontoon boats out there?

Thanks but I'm not in Winnipeg now and this is a 2000 second generation venture.

Thanks Craig, I am now shimming the rubber mounts on my handle bars as the whole front fairing is starting to bounce on rough roads. I am also going to try to get the bike into a dealership mechanic as it is starting to wear me down. Hey, we will see you in a few weeks! Tom- 46 replies

Hi Jay, Thanks for the advice. I pulled the front of the fairing off but i cant get at the 2 nuts i can see. Everything seems tight when i tried to move the inner fairing. I picked up some plastic applicators. They are tapered and have some flex and i was able to push them between the rubber mount and the handle bars. It seems better for now. I'm in a windy campground with limited tools so that may be the best i can do. I am also going to try get a mechanic at a local dealership to look at it as... It is really starting to get to me.... I have no idea what is normal or abnormal with these 2nd gens. Tom

It looks like my rubber mounts on my handle bars supporting my fairing is toast. The whole fairing and windshield has started moving too much on rough roads. I think this may have been causing my windshield problems. As i am on the road i need a road fix for these things. Yesterday i cut some tie wraps and pushed them between the handle bars to use as spacers. This seems to help but here is my question. Is this a good thing to do or am i creating more damage? I am going to try to find a better spacer that i can slip around the whole handle bar. What do others do for this? Thanks, Tom

No pics yet, it takes about 5 minutes to fire the playbook up. By that time its too late. I will try the silicone first. Actually it is just a grave site. I dont think we can get up to cape briton for a while. A weather system has come in. Harley... Awwwww.- 46 replies

Far right outer windshield fairing windshield bolt hole cracked on top of the hole but the bolts keep loosening up. I picked up some clear silicone and tightened the bolts with this on the threads. I will check tomorrow night to see if the bolts loosen up again. The whole upper fairing can bounce a bit on bad roads. I understood this was normal but how do you tell when the rubber spacers need to be changed and is it easy to change: My rear shock is now groaning so it doesnt look good for that. I checked the post on that but no tools etc. To add oil no w. But the roads are great. We had fresh lobster in peggys cove for supper. I want to hunt down dealers in halifax tomorrow. I want to get that progressive suspension pump you have. Later- 46 replies

Ok, good luck with that the plastic. I was going to tell you about plastic welding last night but maybe try the other methods first the other guys are more knowledgeable on this than me. I think we are going to try to find a camp spot in cape Briton for the weekend and will try to ride. It then but will see on the weather and.... Plastic welding makes plastic more brittle but i have had to do most of my trunk bottom sinking aluminum screen in the plastic for support. Take care, Tom- 46 replies

Well, i made it to halifax. Will meet the better half when she gets off the plane tomorrow. Great day but i have to say that after Pennsylvania, and northern states the ride was not as much fun. You tend to get used to the twisties... I am supposed to have wyfi at the campsite but its not great. I have to sit at the campsite office to get a signal. Later...- 46 replies

Hey Rick, We were thinking of camping at the dealership. Last time we talked you were thinking the same thing. No showers may become a problem. Do you guys want to split a campground site?- 46 replies
