For a real nice finish and sealer I like to use Wizards Power Seal.

I use Turtle wax Chrome Polish and Rust remover, and also No7 Chrome and Metal Polish I find works as well. If I have spot where the welds are I will use a small plastic brush a stiff tooth brush will work also to help break up the rust. The pictures I put on was just a fairly quick job because I wanted to show a how good the Turtle wax would do. Big pits or if the chrome has flaked off there isn't much you can do. Orlin

I have hauled a few Ventures in the back of pickups and didn't have any problems. But I didn't use ramps to drive up on, I to would find a place to load so it would be as level as I could get to drive it in. Just watch some you tube videos of people loading their cycles in pickups. If you look around you can find some good deals on a 8 or 10 foot trailer. It will take one time of the cycle taking a flop and you maybe getting hurt to make the trailer a cheap investment Orlin

I found what tore up the oil seal and what was making the bearing feel ruff when turning the final drive, it looks like he must have picked up a piece of wire and it rapped up on the final drive between the oil seal and the bearing, These were a couple of pieces that wasn't balled up. I drained the oil from the final drive and nothing came out in the oil, refilled it and drained it again and nothing, the bearing is pretty well covered so I don't think that any got into the bearing, once I got the seal off and cleaned it out it turns nice and smooth. Here is a pic, you can see that the rubber dust seal is gone.

I looked on Partshark and they don't have it either its the housing and bearing, they must come together, I found a final drive with just over 2,000 miles on it so I am thinking that is the way to go.

Went to take pics to show the owner, and noticed a small piece of rubber sticking out from the bearing pulled it out and turned it some more and can now feel that the bearing does have a ruff feel to it when turning. I thought that when I pushed the cycle around in the shop it seemed to push hard. Now I know why,

Doing a service on a 2007 Venture and when I took the wheel off I noticed what looked like a piece of chewed up wire. I started to clean up the grime and the old grease on the splines of the final drive where the wheel goes on and found more. And then noticed that the dust seal is gone from the bearing, The bearing feels good I have another hub that I used to turn the final drive. My question is how would the dust seal come off of the bearing, There isn't anything there to grab it or rub on it. I have to wonder that maybe the bearing had spun and loosened or tore the dust seal. Looking for a new one I can not find one anywhere I have looked, Yamaha said they are discontinued, looks to me the best thing to do would be to replace the final drive. Orlin

I am with cowpuc have seen that many times when the pipes heat up after its gotten cold out. As for the gas I would guess a float that's a bit sticky and letting a little fuel by, Check the oil level. Make sure its not ending up in there.

Have to say that I sure hope that 2018 isn't the crazy year that 2017 was. Sharon is doing well back to work and getting stronger each day, And I am getting better, getting back to getting some wood split up and some of the other chores that have gotten neglected, but then its been limited because someone had to open that darn door up so this other guy that we all have heard of is out sending snow with that sinister grin on his face:hihi: Looking forward to spring already, Getting the campground ready and get things in order for Maintenance day so we can take some time this summer and hop on the bike and go see some other Venture Rider friends that have been so nice to come and see us, We thought it would be nice and go see them. But first we need to decide witch way we are going and it may end up being a flip of the coin when we get to the end of the drive way. So if you see us pulling up to your house you will know if we took a right or a left at the end of the drive. Well now back to putting some more wood in the stove and head to work and dream of those warmer days and think about the flip of the coin. Orlin
