  1. Looks like a nice clean ride Kevin, glad to see you with another Gen 1. Now all that is needed is to configure it to your expectations. Mike
  2. I have a pretty good size ultrasonic if you want me to soak them. I will need dimensions to make sure they will fit. Maybe remove bowls and floats to reduce size. Let me know Mike
  3. So whats the verdict on the air horns, Wolo Bad Boys or the Stebel. Just looking for an opinion. thinking I will put 2 on the bike.
  4. .01 mm is only .0004 of an inch, I don't see an issue. I did mine cam lobe 180 from the shim and set them on the high side of the tolerance.
  5. Noticed the cantle on your seat has a tall step, just wandering if its been modified. Thanks Mike
  6. Well it has been 3 months since my back surgery. 2 weeks after the surgery I started therapy and 6 weeks into that my doctor had a cow due to the fact they wasn't doing anything. Had to change therapy place and the current one seems to be working. I exercise in the morning and night and am up to walking a mile a day. In the last week my back is feeling better and better. Went to the doctor Monday and am going back to work 10-7. Am looking toward to that. Had the Venture and the V-65 Sabre fired up today ( Sunoco gas mixxed with Av gas and a little Seafoam does wonders). Still hoping to get some riding in yet this year, hopefully we will have a long fall before cold sets in. That's all I have for now, just wanted to give an update.
  7. Are you going to keep the mercury stixs. I would be interested if you don't want them. Mike
  8. I took two small nylon tywraps and run them around the connector in two places, no way it can come apart.
  9. Just curious about what everyone is using for 12 inch trailer tires, radial or bias ply. I am going to change my 8 inchers out to 12 inch and being recommended to purchase radials. I have been running the 480-8 inch bias with no problem pulling the trailer behind my V-65 Sabre. The reason for the change is only to raise the trailer a bit (2 inch drop axle and 5 inches of ground clearance) before I make the hitch for the 87 Venture. Just was wondering what everyone is using cause I am thinking still 480-12 Kenda Loadstar bias ply load range c.
  10. My wife and I are glad you and your wife came out of this with minor injuries. Our prayers will be there for you and if there is anything I can do let me know.
  11. NGK makes 5000 ohm resistor caps that will screw right on the new wires you should replace also. Any bike shop or Dennis Kirk bass this stuff. Not worth screwing with the 20 year old stuff for the price.
  12. Everybody has their own opinion on carb sync tools. I don't like the carbtune due to the fact that the rods stick in the chambers. I don't care for motion pro carb stick because the fluid that is used separates when used. I have had a set of 4 vacuum gages now for about 35 years and have done numerous different bikes and love them. When I sync carbs I will get it close at idle but the real test is at 3000-4000 rpm. You can't check carbs at this rpm with the carbstyx or carbtune. Just my 2 cents.
  13. Correct me if I am wrong but the vacuum line going to #2 carb also goes to the pressure sensor. If it is bad you could be sucking air. You can check it with a meter and a vacuum pump and looking at the Yamaha service manual
  14. Glad to here you made it ok. Guess the bike run ok. Wish I was able to go. Have fun we will talk soon.
  15. Well, my lower back surgery almost went without a glitch. I came home the next day and by Thursday early morning my backpain was unbearable. Contacted the Dr. and he doubled me up on pain and muscle relaxers, no help. Dr. said go back to hospital and get an ERI. By this time the pain was so bad I could not move. Had to call the life squad to cart me back to the hospital. MRI showed a large blood clot in my lower back pushing on the nerve bundle. So off to surgery again to fix the blood clot. Everything went well, I am home sitting and walking, so I hope it stays this way until I regain my strength back.
  16. After about 15 years of fighting lower back pain it is finally time to bite the big one and have my back fixxed. So Tuesday morning it is going to happen. I have been a member to this forum now for about 2 1/2 years and have made it to Don's MD day the last two years and have met some of the most wonderful people that one could ever meet, This was challenge for me to even make it this year due to my back. The 87 two tone silver XVZ I was riding was a 2 year frame off restoration and I just got it completed 2 weeks before the trip to Oberlien. I told myself and my wife that if nothing else before my surgery I wanted to make this trip happen to once again meet the friends that helped me through this bike project and also share things that I learned during the rebuild process, and of course meet new friends. When we left Oberlien at 9:30 am on Sunday we had 225 miles to ride. We pulled in our drivway at 5:00 pm due to fact that I was in so much pain I was stopping every 20 miles to try and relieve back pain.
  17. I just worked on a chinese Vento 250 Harley look alike and I told the owner to sell it as soon as possible. The quality is not there and you can not hardley get parts for this stuff. Sometimes the Honda/Yamaha replacement parts will work and sometimes not, you do not know. When I worked at a bike shop the owner would not even think about working on this stuff. I would shy away from these machines from experience. The Honda look alike small gas engines like on water pumps and generators are not to bad as far as reliabily/cost. Just my opinion.
  18. I have been building bike engines and rebuilding machine tools for over 35 years and it is not recommended to grind valve shims due to the fact that you take the risk of grinding through the heat treat making them soft. It is not worth taking the risk. Find someone that has a set you can swap shims and do it right. Mike
  19. Thanks for the reply, I remember seeing that on the JBM website now that it was mentioned.
  20. Just looking for everyones take on the carb slide vacum hole location when reassembling carb slides on my 87. It looks like they should point down at 6:00.
  21. Lawn mower gas tank and a Briggs and Stratton inline fuel shutoff valve, Been using one for 25 years.
  22. I have a number 2 and number 3 Famco arbor press that I need the round press plates for. Is there anybody out there that has one that can draw it up so I can make them. Famco wants a small fortune to buy them. Let me know. Thanks Mike
  23. I am looking for 1 carb slide for a 87 1300 . The diaphram does not have to good and I do not need the needle or attaching pieces. All I need is the black slide since I dropped one of mine and busted the top of it. Thanks and everyone have a Merry Christmas:fingers-crossed-emo
