  1. Well, I've isolated it back to clutch side front carb (#1 I think). I took the air filter off and just watched the carbs while it was running. I noticed something interesting. I could see fuel bubbling up through the pilot jet just before it would start leaking out of the overflow, about the same time, I could hear the engine bogging down. What exactly is happening to make the engine bog down? I'm going to try the air, carb cleaner and tapping a couple more times before I take the carbs out again.
  2. Thanks all for the input. I'm going to give it another go this week. As far as the tank liner, it was done before I bought it. After replacing the fuel filter (which I'm pretty certain it is in the correct orientation) we had the fuel line off the carbs and turn the ignition on several times to observe the gas. It looked good. I also drained the carbs a couple of times to see what it looked like and I didn't notice any debris. I'll update the group on my progress later this week. Thank you all for taking the time to help me. I really do appreciate it.
  3. Ok all, I need your help. I'm looking for every possible failure mode that would cause fuel to leak out of the overflow on the carbs. After rebuild install, carbs were leaking out of number 1. Then taking it off and checking everything out we put it back together. Number 1 no longer leaked but no. 3 & 4 did. Very frustrating. It appeared to happen after some problems with the throttle cable, where we removed the carbs again and turned them upside down to keep the cable attached to the carbs. Not sure that putting them upside caused it but the timing is there. Background; 1987 Royale, 8900 miles. Carbs were rebuilt by a trusted V-max guy. The bike has been synced and runs great except for the gas leak. The tank has been lined (Red) new fuel filter, new air filter, new spark plugs. The carbs didn't originally leak when first installed. So looking for input on all possible causes of the leak. Also, would carbs leak more or less during regular idle? Thanks in advance, Bill
  4. I think the guy that had the bike before removed them, I didn't disconnect anything and don't see anything hanging "un-attached". Do you know what the tube size is? Like to go to the auto store and get new hoses. What would be the ramifications of no hoses (Besides we gasey carbs if they leak)? Thanks!
  5. All- I'm hoping someone can give me some ideas. I have an 87 Venture and had the Carbs rebuilt. After replacing the fuel filter and checking the gas, we placed the rebuilt carbs in. It started up pretty well, but right away we noticed gas coming through Carb #2 (front left side as your sitting on the bike) and also coming out the top of the carbs in two small orifices. What might be causing this, float perhaps? Also, the four metal air vents at the top of the carbs, do they attach to a hose or something? When I took the carbs off there was nothing attached and there doesn't appear to be anything out of place to re-attach. Appreciate your help. Bill
  6. All- I recently bought a 1987 Venture Royale which I'm getting the Carbs completely cleaned and rebuilt by one of my VMAX buddies. While I have everything off, I'm replacing the plugs, fuel filter, air filter and the fuel lines. Can anyone tell me what size the fuel lines are? I'm going to look at an auto parts store first. Has anyone had any luck doing that? Bill Hampton, IL
  7. I'm having the same type of problems. Took the bike in to an independent (but apparently didn't want to mess with the Venture) he cleaned the carbs said they looked good. The damn thing has to have the choke on at all times about 1/4 of the way. As soon as the choke goes off the bike dies. Also, you really have to feather first gear and give it plenty of gas. Before I took it in, the bike had good power and response at higher speeds, now it just runs like $#!&!. I'm frustrated and don't have the "know-how" to tear into the Carbs and start taking stuff off. Any thoughts? Bill Hampton, IL
  8. Is it true that running the tape deck will actually create a negative draw on one's battery? I bought the conversion tape to use my MP3 player and for the few times I've been out I've been pretty happy with it. It would concern me that the farther I go the weaker my battery may become. Bill
  9. Thank you all for your help. That YamahaNation site is great. I found the air filter for $36.00. I'm taking my bike in to a local guy this weekend for some carb work. Hope to be up and running soon. So far I can't believe what a smooth ride it is. I have a 2002 V-max which is a thrill of its own, but the Venture is awesome. Thanks again. Bill
  10. All- I'm new to the site and just purchased a 1987 Venture Royale. I love it. It does need a few things and I'm hoping you can help. 1) I need a few vent louvers for the side panel. 2) I need a couple of the rubber grommets for the side panels. 3) Are there any cheaper alternatives to the $60.00 stock air filters? 4) Lastly, the battery warning light will not turn off. The battery was checked and is good and properly charged. The fluid level is adequate and the contact probe was cleaned. I've even disconnected it and the light still comes on. It appears that the resistor mod was performed. I'm stumped. I appreciate any input and apologize if I posted this in the wrong place. I'm still learning to navigate on this website. Thank you. Bill
  11. Venture Riders, I'm new to the site and am having a good time learning. I have a 2002 VMAX and would like to compliment him with a Venture. I am interested in the 86-93 models. Is that considered 1st generartion or 2nd? Also, I was wondering what where some of the differences in those model years, mostly function and option differences. I believe there is no reverse gear in those years, is that correct? Also I'd be interested in member's opinions regarding the pros and cons of the Ventrue for those years. Any info would be great even if you might think it is trival. I'm trying to educate myself for a spring purchase. Thanks! Bill Hampton, IL
