  1. Thanks Du-Rron for posting. I followed the amounts listed - double and triple checking it. I don't have a motorcycle jack and am wondering if it is possible that more oil drained being tilted resting on the kick stand then if the bike was upright and level. You wouldn't think but I am still at a loss why the dipstick still isn't even wet after having about 3.6 quarts in the main oil tank.
  2. Hey gang, I have a question. Working on my first oil change and am greatly concerned about the amount of oil required. In the middle of changing my oil, I quickly discovered the location challenge of the two front drain plugs next to the frame. Long story short, had to run to the store to get a 18mm wrench since there was not enough room for a socket. I left the main tank and oil filter off draining as I went to the store to get the proper tool for the front two plugs. Long story short, I put 2.4 quarts in the crankcase and 3.2 quarts in the main tank. Checking the dip stick in the upright position, no oil was touching the dip stick. I added the remaining oil of the 6 quarts and there is still no oil on the dip stick. I read somewhere someone say nearly a quart of oil is still in the system. Now I am questioning how much oil is really required. I guess with the main tank, the dip stick should be the proof, but how would one know if there wasn't enough or if there was too much oil in the crankcase?? Thoughts?? Bill
  3. Is this piece with the blue dot the security alarm speaker?
  4. I too have a Yamaha factory tall heated back for sale. I purchased this past March (2023). In August I decided to get the Utopia back rest. Still have original box. If any one is interested, let me know. I called about 15 different dealerships before I found one. It cost me $283 plus tax and shipping. I'd ship it (within the lower 48 states) to you $225.00 total.
  5. I had the Yamaha stock tall heated backrest for a few months, then I decided to get the Utopia backrest instead. I had one of theirs on my 2003 Midnight Venture that I liked pretty well. So far the Utopia backrest on my 2018 is doing great. If anyone is in the market to purchase a near new tall heated backrest look me up.
  6. Does anyone know what paint is used for the Yamaha stock trunk rack? Mine has a chip, it would be nice to be able to touch it up.
  7. Dave Hanson, Can you tell me about your seat and back rest. Yours looks great Bill
  8. Hello all, I'm the second owner of a 2018 Yamaha SVTC. So far no problems but I did have the brake switch and starter serviced under warranty per the recall. My original factory warranty expires in Feb. 2024. While at the dealership, I asked about after market warranties and they have one that looks pretty good in terms of coverage, unlimited miles, 3 years for about $1300. Typically I would never touch one of these things but reading about some of the engine problems does concern me about what might be to come. I have just under 6,000 miles on it. On the other hand, I love this bike and for the money it's hard to beat the features, comfort and performance. I am curious if any others have considered or purchased an additional after market warranty and thoughts for or against it. While at the dealership getting the starter replaced, I was looking at the Indian Pursuits. A lot of money for similar features on the SVTC which makes seriously consider the extended warranty to keep what I have. Thoughts?
  9. Don't mean to belabor this topic but for the heck of it, I hooked up my work iphone to both USB connectors and didn't get that error message. I have a Google Pixel 6 (android) that appears to triggering the message. Not sure if it is a coincidence or not.
  10. mcsteve- have you tried to charge your phone since the reflash? Does it work properly now?
  11. Hello all, Wondering if anyone has experienced this. On my 2018 SVTC, I plugged my phone into the USB to charge it while I was playing Sirius XM. The following message kept flashing. Any ideas? Bill
  12. Hey everyone, I just bought a 2018 Transcontinental and am loving it so far. I found the Yamaha stock driver taller heated back rest. Anyone replaced one or have any tips on the install? I took the seat off thinking it would be a 5 minute job but with all the plastic crap, and having to meet some friends I stopped before I broke anything.
  13. I happen to have oem exhaust from a 2003 Midnight Venture in near new condition. The original owner replaced with Bubs pipes. If anyone is interested let me know. Bill

  15. Hey Gang! My 1987 Venture Royale is running better than ever! I think I finally got the carb overflow leak problem resolved. The bike is strong and smooth and I can honestly say for the first time I can begin to understand why these bikes are so beloved. Anyway, I wanted the groups' input on something I'm noticing. First, a little background. My 1987 Venture was purchased this spring with only 7700 miles. Carbs were rebuilt and it's had is share of Sea Foam run through it in the last 5 months. I've put about 2000 miles on it so far. The power is good and the mileage is between 38-40 and that's with myself and wife totaling about 380 lbs. (My wife is small, Ha!) Anyway, I'm noticing a little black soot coming out of the exhaust when I first start it. My first thought was perhaps I was burning a little oil but I've been watching the oil level and it doesn't appear to be moving at all. Could this soot just be a 23 years of muck purging itself? Should I continue to use periodic Sea Foam or am I seeing a new potential problem. As always, your thoughts are appreciated! Bill
  16. Here's the photo of the cruise cable. Seems like a lot of slack. Is this normal?
  17. Hey gang, I've got the plastic off from working on the carbs and thought I'd lube the cables and check my cruise control that doesn't want to engage. Electronics seem to work but the cruise won't engage. I've opened up the cable cover where the pulleys are and noticed quite a bit of slack. See attached. Is that normal? Also, another problem I introduced is the spring fell out. What is the proper orientation of the spring. Any pics available?
  18. Ok all, I think all your great input may have paid off. After doing many of the things above, I ended up adjusting the float tab just a sliver up. I double checked what I call the needle sleeve, it was clean and clear. Tested the needed in there and was able to get a good seal. Anyway, after reassembling and starting the bike several times, I let it run for quite a while. Did this a couple of times and no overflow!!!!! Damn that makes me happy. I've been fight that for 3 months. Still have to put the bike back together, have the carbs synced again and put all the plastic back on but at least I can see light! Thanks again to everyone! I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is it.
  19. Also, Belluvue Iowa is beautiful. If you don't mind going further south, Sabula IA is also a great view heading down River Road (Route 52). Right across from Sabula is Savanna, IL which has the famous Poopy's Bar & Grill. Definitely a motorcycle stop.
  20. Ahh, that is interesting. That might explain a few things. Do you know the flow height adjustment? I've read that it is 1-7/8". It sounds like maybe that could be the culprit to my overflow leak.
  21. Ok gentlemen, I'm back for more assistance. After trying every non-invasion thing I could to get my one carb from leaking, I had to tear it down. I pulled the float bowl cover off and the float looked good and moved (by hand easily) and seemed to engaged the needle well. I took the float out and the needle. Needle is brand new and looks it. I don't see any nicks or tears in the rubber. Soo.... what test or experiment can I do to test the bouancy of the float. I have two others left over from the rebuild that I could swap. Also..... does anyone know if there are different float needle sizes between the V-max and Venture. A V-max guy rebuilt my carbs. I'm not sure if there are but I suppose if the rubber tip was slighter smaller that could cause it to not seat properly. From a probably standpoint, what are the odds that the seat is bad? (I've posted a few other times with the leaking carb (from overflow). I'm pretty convinced that it's not debris. I've drained all the bowls several times, taking the fuel line off and turned the bike on and off so gas pumped into a glass jar. Gas in all circumstances looked clear. Thanks as always. Bill
  22. I have some more sea-foam. Do I understand you actually put a mixture with Marvel mystery oil into the carbs?
