  1. Yes, there was a guy on Fleabay selling oil pressure kits a few years ago. It has a nice pressure gauge and ss hydraulic hose and fitting to screw in. I have one somewhere...
  2. You will be amazed at what some kerosene and a scrub brush can do on that sludge!! A toothbrush works wonders for getting into the tight places! All in all it doesn't look bad at all. But no, bulging o rings are not a good thing...
  3. It helps to have a hood over yourself to see the "color" and do it in a dimly lit room...
  4. Hmmmm, actually I'm in favor or "Blue Lives Matter" but I guess there is a small degree of Political Correctness or Incorrectness to it...
  5. The only thing missing from your detailed ad was "Owner's residence protected by Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson..."
  6. Ummmm, yeah, waaay cool but if and when Becky and I ever go to a side by side it will probably be a nice used Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky... Kind of like the idea of a real top and side windows that roll up to keep the rain out!
  7. Lookin' GOOD!!
  8. Yah!! That attraction is brand spankin' new and definitely not for the faint of heart!!! I think it is on the Candian side so you need your passport. The US side of the falls is about a 1 1/2 hour to 2 hour ride from the campsite so if there are any of you adventurous types out there give it a try. No idea of the cost, and I'm thinking there may be a bit of a waiting line. It may be reservations only, I just haven't checked it out yet!! Now, to Big Tom, I have not made up my mind as to when the auction will be for the "Special Limited Edition" tee shirts, either Friday night of Saturday night. The limited quantity regular tee's will go on sale before the special ones go on auction. The regular limited quantity tees will be at a set price, but when they're gone, they're gone!! The date and time the regular ones go on sale will be announced the weekend before the Rally!! Don't worry, they will NOT be on sale Wednesday...
  9. Yup, what Jamsie said!! You've gone this far, may as well break the glaze on the cylinder walls and definitely replace the rings to seat properly with the honed walls. When you end up with an excellent running engine you'll be glad you did!!
  10. ggg if you plan on using it on the front remember to mount it backwards. The belt design of front tires vs rear tires is exactly opposite, rear tires have an exerted force when accelerating, whereas front tires have the exerted force when braking...
  11. Yah, somewhere between 2 and 2 1/2 turns is a good rough starting point. From there a CO sniffer or a colortune plug...
  12. Ahhhh! You have that problem too Randy, eh?!!?
  13. WOW!! Been wondering why we haven't heard much from you lately! Definitely praying for you, your wife, and mom as well!!!
  14. uhhhh, unfortunately no Jay, it goes for the "pay for all the prizes, the band, the free water and soda, etc.fund!"
  15. Hey Big Tom, do I ever have news for you!!! I'm sure by now you have read about the limited edition Rally tee shirts that we will be selling, right? Well, besides those tees, we ALSO will be auctioning off an extremely limited number of SPECIAL TIE DYED tee shirts!! These tee shirts are going to be hand tie dyed by one of the members here with embroidered lettering commemorating this year's rally!!There are only a handful (more than 1 but way less than 10) in assorted sizes that will go to the highest bidders!! So, have some extra money with you so you don't miss out on these!! PS I guarantee you I will be bidding on one of these myself!!!
  16. What, you never heard of Christmas in July??
  17. Ummmm, first thing that comes to mind is some nasty pitting or abrasions on the fork tubes. I guess that would depend on how much riding you do out in the desert especially with wind, a sandstorm could act like sandblasting... Love the picture!!
  18. There is also a possibility that the valve leak is due to an out of adjustment valve shim. Strange as it sounds with wear the clearance gets smaller, not larger with wear!! But what the Pucster says about corrosion is also very true!! Moot point if you are installing the VMax heads anyway, just do a valve adjustment job before you button things up. Also, you CAN set up the clearances while the heads are out on the bench...
  19. OK to address the slow starter issue, common issue, especially when hot! The fix is two fold, or possibly 3 fold. Step one, upgrade your battery cables, both positive and negative to a heavier gauge wire. There was a member here that used to make up ready made cables cut to length and the whole nine yards, plug and play. Not sure if anybody is still making them though. Step 2, buy a 4 brush starter motor from any 2nd gen Venture '99 to '13, should run you about $60 for a good used one, and install it! They are plug and play! Step 3 upgrade to an AGM battery, they have more cranking power! That should run you around $100. Member Skydoc_17 is a distributer for DEKA which is also the OEM for several Auto Parts store's brand name AGM battery. Earl is a great guy to deal with! Yup, you want an '86 up Royale!! Just keep in mind that a 25 - 30 year old bike is just that, an OLD bike!! But, there isn't anything about these bikes we don't know about, and you will find the support around here is excellent! We're a big happy family around here! Once you get it running right you will be hard pressed to find a more rugged, comfortable and durable touring bike! they run practically forever!
  20. Golly Big Tom, I'm worried about that too!! Now, I am assuming that those who may have signed up for Thursday or Friday will also be there Saturday as well, But even then compared to previous years that's a pretty low count!! Hopefully those reading this that plan on coming, or even THINK they MIGHT come will sign up on the calendar immediately, even if it is a maybe! Come on Folks, this is the BIG EVENT for the summer!!! Come on over to the Rally!!!!! And sign up!!!!!
  21. Not 100% sure on this, but I THINK the last year for the Standard was '87, after that they were all Royales. As stated, the Royales had CLASS, Radio, Intercom, and CB's. Actually, on the MK1's ('83 - '85) the CB was an OPTION on the Royales! Yes, you will find the prices all over the place, but for a good running well maintained one it should bring in the $2500 range give or take depending on mileage and cosmetics. For these bikes, anything with less than 100,000 miles on them is just broken in! Properly maintained they will run for over 200,000 miles! So, in light of that, the 72K is not that bad, but you stated it needs TLC so I would price it at more around $1500 or less depending on how rough or well it runs, condition of tires, etc. For $2100 it better be turn key needing nothing. For a thirty year old bike I would expect some cosmetic issues, probably a broken tab or two on the fairing mountings, possibly a tear on the seat especially on the very front of it, all normal wear and tear. It should start easily and run on all 4 cylinders with no hesitation on acceleration. Check the date code on the tires, it is advised NOT to use any tire, regardless of tread amount, that is more than 6 years old! That standard is actually a recommendation from the tire manufacturers regardless if on a motorcycle, a cage, or a trailer. Offer the seller $1400 IF it is running right, and be willing to go up to say $1700...
  22. Yup!! Solid as a rock!! I have his adapter for my trike and I am 100%+ confident crawling under my trike when it is on it!
  23. Yah!! Welcome to the "Clan"
  24. Well Puc, when you hear the same thing from two or more people it gives validity to the answer, sooooo, I'm just being supportive...
  25. Added info on the trunk mounting rack. The '83 and '84 are the same. For the '85 they added some extra pieces for the helmet locks and bigger trunk. On the MK2, they also added two down arms to the '85 style for a more solid mount. regardless, the base rack is the same animal for all years..
