A friend had a couple jet skis. They rode into shallow water and they sucked up some pebbles and destroyed the impellers.

Everyone should read the Hurt Report. An ironic name for a report on motorcycle accidents, and still the only definitive one I know about. Dr Hurt, with the co-operation of the local police dept, had a scanner and his team would rush to the scene of a motorcycle accident, sometimes arriving before the police. They would study the evidence at the scene and came to some surprising conclusions. Nearly always the police wrote up the report of the accident wrong. They blamed the biker when it was usually the other way around. The evidence clearly showed the biker was not at fault. The majority of accidents happened at intersections and the median speed was 29 MPH. Car drivers were responsible for 70 percent of accidents involving motorcycles. AS for the increase in motorcycle deaths I saw another study which showed that was the result of the increase in SUV's and mini vans on the road. In an accident with a car the rider could be thrown over the roof and slide down the road. Not counting the bike usually the worst injury was to their dignity. With a SUV or mini van the rider was thrown into the vehicle and death was far more likely. I have taught both my sons how to ride and I have had friends as me to ride with them until they gain experience and confidence. I have taught them about gravel on corners, cars cutting corners, etc. I think the most important thing I taught them was to always ride within their capabilities regardless of what others were doing. I often have people point out to me some idiot on a bike who makes the news with stupid behavior. I can always point out many more reports of some idiot in a car being just as stupid. I have many stories of morons in cars who have nearly hit me due to their lack of attention. The fact is that goes with riding and there is nothing you can do except be prepared. The bottom line is you are responsible for your own safety and behavior. Drive safely and enjoy riding for many years to come.

All the above. Bring cash, credit, debit but leave the guns at home. You can run into real problems and big fines at the border.

I always run Michelin's on all my cars and trucks. I really like the Avons. I have talked a couple of friends into trying them and they say the same thing I felt, put on the Avons and the bike feels 200 lbs lighter.

71 and as soon as I get rid of this busted ankle and busted ribs I will be riding again. Bike is almost ready to go. My sons friends in Ontario call me " Old Silverback" I told him to tell them old silverback will be on the road again soon. Peeled the cast off and took the rat rod (46 chev p/u, Camaro clip) up to the Qualicum car show last weekend. In a couple years I will probably downsize.

The law here is that if you hit someone in the rear end you are at fault. Obviously you did not hit him in the rear. In fact I would quit saying you hit him and state he hit you which is the truth. any dividing lines on the pavement? Here you are not allowed to make a left turn across a solid line. -
Due to a faulty fuel gauge I have become adept at reaching down and switching from fuel to reserve while riding. Got to get that fixed one day.

I have been running Avons on different bikes for many years and I have never seen anything like that. I have also never had any problems with them. !/8 of tread seems pretty scant. I would have changed it out before leaving on a trip.

Don't forget the water pump ( careful not to lose the prime) in the front yard and the outhouse in the back yard.

A thick slice of bread hot out of the oven with butter melting on it, but dad always took the cream off the bottle. Bath night in the laundry tub with water heated on the wood stove. First mom, then dad, then me. A bicycle was a necessity and a major investment.

It is called "Three Card Monte" It is called "Three Card Monte" and is as old as the hills. Once they get you playing they let you win some then palm the winning card and you start loosing. A common variation is to use three walnut shells and a pea.

It's time for a little truth...................

We had to go for a seaman's full medical exam every 5 years. One of the engineers refused to go. When he was told go or be fired he went. The doctor did not even let him leave the office. He called an ambulance and they took him directly to the hospital. He wound up having a quadruple bypass. It pays to stay on top of things. -
When I went down it was on dry pavement. Body bruised and broken but my heavy leather jacket, boots and jeans came through without a mark. The helmet took a beating and will have to be replaced. The ambulance crew kept thanking me for wearing all the gear. They were sick of scraping up guys wearing shorts, sneakers and tee shirts. My brother in law lost his leg because he was wearing shorts and sneakers. No broken bones but lost all the flesh from knee down. Glad you came through safe.

I am beginning to think May has it in for members of this site. First accident in 30 years of riding and it had to be a bad one. Perhaps we need to sacrifice a virgin or something. Nah, that would be a waste. We could sacrifice a bicycle or something. Any suggestions?

Get well soon. What I hate about hospitals is the food, and why do I always get nurse Ratchet, never nurse Bambi or Candy. All in all though I prefer the hospital to the alternative....the morgue. You will soon be up and about.

Yammer Dan went down !

Get well soon. I am still on crutches with the broken ankle. That does not bother me too much but the broken ribs...agony! -
Just back from my follow up with the surgeon. The good news is that I am healing well. Got the old cast off and now have a space age one that can be taken apart and has all kinds of buckles and straps. Reminds me of one of those transformers. The bike is healing faster than I am and will be ready to go in a week or so. The bad news is that I will have to cancel our reservations for Yreka. The scary news is that my wife drives me where I need to go. I hope I survive.

I would leave it in place and when anyone asked what it does I would reply " oh, nothing". Should get them wondering. I would also advise the manufacturer that I was advertising their "nothing" product and I was such a good guy i would continue advertising it absolutely free as long as I had it. This tactic got me a new watch to replace a faulty one they had previously refused to replace.
-
I want it. Now, if I could only afford it.
-
So the guy was a jerk. It is almost guaranteed that when you go to pass a slowpoke in a car he will speed up. Nothing to do with Harleys. Jerks are jerks no matter what they are driving.

Heal fast, heal well.

Thanks everyone. I hope to get back in the saddle asap. Still have not heard about my bike.
