North Eastern PA Rt. 6 near Tittioute is "Simpler Times Museum". Sign says open by appointment or chance. The old timer that runs it lives in the house out back. He's gotta be a multi millionaire. Old cars, trucks, heavy equipment, lots of oil drilling rigs and equipment, some very old Mack trucks, one's even a chain drive, lots of old gas pumps, and most of this stuff has been restored to showroom condition. An absolute must see if you're up that-a-way. There's a lookout just outside of Renovo off Rt. 120 that's pretty cool too. You can see for miles. They used to hang glide from that point. Not sure if they still do or not, but a great place to ride to and check out. There's some great ridin' in PA for sure.

Not sure if this qualifies, but I sometimes keep a bag of Twizzlers in the work van to nibble at. I had an opened bag that I'd been working on for a week or two, and started noticing that they weren't all as smooth as they should be. As I got nearer the end of the bag they were pretty ragged, and I thought the Twizzler machine at the factory must have been out of sorts. No biggie, they taste the same. When I was on the last one, I noticed something in the bottom of the bag......MOUSE TURDS !!! Needless to say I didn't eat the last couple of Twizzlers. Nasty !!! but there wasn't much I could do about it. I never did actually see or catch the mouse, but I saw other evidence that he'd been living in the van.

I remember as a child how my parents would rave over this translucent, gelatinous yuck they'd keep in the fridge.....pigs feet.....nasty.... And then every once in a while Mom would make this cold, pink soup. I can't remember what that stuff was called. It actually had ice cubes in it. Had a few episodes of not leaving the table until my plate was clean. lol. Dunno how I grew up so big and strong.

I'm a top journeyman now, and I'd be a top journeyman at the new place. I'm a commercial / industrial HVAC Tech. It's something that takes years to get good at. The experience is a big part of what it takes to be a sage tech. I wouldn't be the new guy as far as pecking order, but I would go in not knowing the personalities of most of my co workers and superiors, and would have to step lightly until I get to know the turf. That'll be an adjustment, 'cause where I am now I rule the roost. I'm one of 3 guys in the area. I'm the lead guy, and they leave me alone, and my nearest "kinda boss" is 2 1/2 hours away. With the new job, I'd be part of 50 or so other techs in the same metro area. I've talked to some of the techs, and they all seem pretty happy....turnover is pretty much nonexistent, so the people who work there must be happy. It'll be an adjustment, but I think I gotta do it. Just lookin' for some wisdom and opinions on the matter.

I got a job offer at a different company. They'll pay $1.50 above Union Scale, 5 paid holidays, 2 weeks paid vacation. Where I work now pays scale, (which is pretty good $$$), I get 1 week paid vacation, (and I'm the only Union guy in the company that even gets that), no paid holidays. The thing is that I've been at this outfit for 15 years, and breakin' up is hard to do. I know all the policies / procedures where I'm at, and I understand the politics of the place. Another big consideration is that where I work now; nearly all my work is on the roofs of malls and plazas, putting up ladders in all weather. I ain't gittin' any younger. The new job I'm looking at will have very little of that. I think I know what I need to do, but it's scary stuff. I have a job that pays quite well.....a job many people would kill for, and I'm about to quit. It's got me tied up in knots.

Should I Do A Vmax Starter Upgrade?
uncledj replied to luke000's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Got my new starter delivered today! It'll probably be a few weeks before I install it though. I'll post then and let y'all know how much of a difference it makes. -
That's a sharp bike. A bit hi, a bit low, no matter. I wouldn't worry about the mileage either, and what really matters is how it strikes you. If it's just what you want,...as long as the price isn't unreasonable, ....go for it. But what do I know...???

Should I Do A Vmax Starter Upgrade?
uncledj replied to luke000's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I think it's a matter of personal preference. When my 87 is hot, on a hot Summer day, it'll crank like the battery is going dead, but has NEVER failed to start. Sometimes it REALLY sounds like it's not gonna go, but it always does. I'm gong to do the upgrade 'cause it always bugs me when it does this, and I like to do a lil' sumthin' sumthin' to improve my bike every year. Go out on a hot day and you'll see why these folks like to upgrade the starters on the first gens. -

Although I'm sure I'd enjoy having a go if I ever came over to visit,You ever come over for a visit, I'll let you try shooting with some of my guns, as I'm sure others on this site would also. Good call. I'd like to make the same offer. Stop by and we can go in the backyard and rock and roll with some "assault" weapons. I'd bet that a lot of Ventureriders are firearms owners and would be glad for the chance to introduce someone from across the pond to the experience. There's a lot of good folks out there armed to the teeth. We outta' ask Freebird to set up a range at the next MD. lol:whistling:

Looks great, but with that paint job, you really can't even tell it's a "Venture". Congrats on a job well done.

Not having the right to self protection sounds just as strange to me. I'm just sayin' Just because you can't doesn't mean you shouldn't.

Can you imagine the nun sitting at her desk grading these papers, all the while trying to keep a straight face and maintain her composure! PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THE WORDING AND SPELLING. IF YOU KNOW THE BIBLE EVEN A LITTLE, YOU'LL FIND THIS HILARIOUS! IT COMES FROM A CATHOLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEST. KIDS WERE ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS. THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS ABOUT THE BIBLE WERE WRITTEN BY CHILDREN. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN RETOUCHED OR CORRECTED. INCORRECT SPELLING HAS BEEN LEFT IN. 1. IN THE FIRST BOOK OF THE BIBLE, GUINESSIS. GOD GOT TIRED OF CREATING THE WORLD SO HE TOOK THE SABBATH OFF. 2. ADAM AND EVE WERE CREATED FROM AN APPLE TREE . NOAH'S WIFE WAS JOAN OF ARK. NOAH BUILT AND ARK AND THE ANIMALS CAME ON IN PEARS. 3. LOTS WIFE WAS A PILLAR OF SALT DURING THE DAY, BUT A BALL OF FIRE DURING THE NIGHT. 4. THE JEWS WERE A PROUD PEOPLE AND THROUGHOUT HISTORY THEY HAD TROUBLE WITH UNSYMPATHETIC GENITALS.. 5. SAMPSON WAS A STRONGMAN WHO LET HIMSELF BE LED ASTRAY BY A JEZEBEL LIKE DELILAH. 6. SAMSON SLAYED THE PHILISTINES WITH THE AXE OF THE APOSTLES. 7. MOSES LED THE JEWS TO THE RED SEA WHERE THEY MADE UNLEAVENED BREAD WHICH IS BREAD WITHOUT ANY INGREDIENTS . 8. THE EGYPTIANS WERE ALL DROWNED IN THE DESSERT. AFTERWARDS, MOSES WENT UP TO MOUNT CYANIDE TO GET THE TEN COMMANDMENTS 9. THE FIRST COMMANDMENTS WAS WHEN EVE TOLD ADAM TO EAT THE APPLE. 10. THE SEVENTH COMMANDMENT IS THOU SHALT NOT ADMIT ADULTERY. 11. MOSES DIED BEFORE HE EVER REACHED CANADA THEN JOSHUA LED THE HEBREWS IN THE BATTLEOF GERITOL. 12. THE GREATEST MIRICLE IN THE BIBLE IS WHEN JOSHUA TOLD HIS SON TO STAND STILL AND HE OBEYED HIM. 13. DAVID WAS A HEBREW KING WHO WAS SKILLED AT PLAYING THE LIAR. HE FOUGHT THE FINKELSTEINS, A RACE OF PEOPLE WHO LIVED IN BIBLICAL TIMES. 14. SOLOMON, ONE OF DAVIDS SONS, HAD 300 WIVES AND 700 PORCUPINES. 15. WHEN MARY HEARD SHE WAS THE MOTHER OF JESUS, SHE SANG THE MAGNA CARTA. 16. WHEN THE THREE WISE GUYS FROM THE EAST SIDE ARRIVED THEY FOUND JESUS IN THE MANAGER. 17. JESUS WAS BORN BECAUSE MARY HAD AN IMMACULATE CONTRAPTION. 18. ST. JOHN THE BLACKSMITH DUMPED WATER ON HIS HEAD. 19. JESUS ENUNCIATED THE GOLDEN RULE, WHICH SAYS TO DO UNTO OTHERS BEFORE THEY DO ONE TO YOU. HE ALSO EXPLAINED A MAN DOTH NOT LIVE BY SWEAT ALONE. 20. IT WAS A MIRICLE WHEN JESUS ROSE FROM THE DEAD AND MANAGED TO GET THE TOMBSTONE OFF THE ENTRANCE. 21. THE PEOPLE WHO FOLLOWED THE LORD WERE CALLED THE 12 DECIBELS. 22. THE EPISTELS WERE THE WIVES OF THE APOSTLES. 23. ONE OF THE OPPOSSUMS WAS ST. MATTHEW WHO WAS ALSO A TAXIMAN. 24. St. PAUL CAVORTED TO CHRISTIANITY, HE PREACHED HOLY ACRIMONY WHICH IS ANOTHER NAME FOR MARRAIGE. 25. CHRISTIANS HAVE ONLY ONE SPOUSE. THIS IS CALLED MONOTONY. :rotf::rotf:

I'd have to believe my 87 Standard First Gen could do better than that. Coming off the line, and shifting to 2nd, the front wheel would definitely be off the ground if I were racing. I've always wanted to run it in the 1/4 mile, but never got around to it, so I may be wrong, but I'd be disappointed if I couldn't get to the mid 13s.

I used to have a 74 GMC Motorhome. You old timers may remember them....they had the dual rear wheels with air suspension and were front wheel drive. Whenever I'd go into an Autozone, Advance, O'rileys, or wherever, and ask for parts they'd always try to sell me GMC van or truck parts. When I'd explain it had an Oldsmobile driveline and was front wheel drive they wouldn't believe me....I've been told more than once that I'd better "double-check that".....lol I'd end up having them look up the parts for a 74 Toranado with the tow package.....same driveline. Makes you wonder what these guys today would do without the computers..

So far it seems that the consensus is to avoid it from one week before to one week after the rally. Different folks have mixed feelings about the Motorhome. I'd love to make it an extended affair, but I only get one week paid vacation, and I usually go somewhere with the wife for that week. I'll see what my friends think after reading this thread. Thanks again everyone for the valuable input.
