  1. Hey....I just Mapquested it, and it's not as far as I thought. 400 miles.
  2. Well, then,...maybe we should just do a deal. I sent ya a pm. Thanks:cool10:
  3. I thought about doing the scooter thing, but to get one that will carry the warden and I at highway speeds will be more expensive than an enduro, and would weigh at least as much. Plus, with an enduro I may get the chance to play once in a while.
  4. Now that's tempting. I talked about it with the wife, and we pretty much decided that I need to clear out the stable a bit to make some room, then I'd buy a newer KLR. I'm gonna sell my Nighthawk cb700sc, (cool bike but I never ride it), will also sell the 82 cb900 custom, (needs cleaned up and minor resto work), and also gonna lose the 93 Katana 600, (might just dump it, but all I know that it needs is paint). I was thinking I'd spend in the neighborhood of $5k, which should get a pretty late model. At $2K, yours might be the way to go. Would there be any issues with riding it the 12 or so hours back to Central Ohio?
  5. For some strange reason, no one seems very interested in taking cats. The mama had a litter of 6, and as soon as they get a bit older I'm gonna round up the whole bunch and take them to a shelter. No....I'm not gonna "whack" 'em,....don't know that I'd have the heart to do it, but the best I can do is send them off to a shelter; preferably a "no kill" one. If anyone out there knows someone who wants a kitten, lemme know.
  6. Thanks, I'll let ya know if I end up gettin' it.
  7. I don't typically let them sit that long. Even when I don't use a bike, ...weather permitting.....I'll take it for a short ride once a month of so just to keep it "fresh". In the Winter I start 'em once a month and run 'em long enough to warm up a bit.
  8. The KLRs seem to have parts readily available, and a pretty good network of support.......of course nothing as great as this site.......but seems like some dedicated klr owners out there. I might be starting to like the idea of a KLR......of course I'll have to ride one to be sure.
  9. I love tax time. The government "gives" me a bunch of money every year at tax time.
  10. This guy is asking $2k for it. I'm really not looking for a newer one since I really won't get much use out of it. I doubt it'll get 500 miles a year use. Since I posted the thread I've been researching it, finding mixed answers, and lots of mention of the "doohickey" upgrade. The bulk of the owners don't seem to think 32 k miles is much of a problem.
  11. I've been considering buying an enduro to use when travelling with the motorhome. I figure that style of bike will be light enough to carry on the trailer hitch, rather than to have to pull a trailer to haul my Venture. It wouldn't be used for much more than short hops; giving me an easy option to leave the "mothership" to run errands and such. I have a lot of experience with air cooled enduros, had an xl350, an xl500, an xr600 and a TT500. They were all air cooled single cylinder. I'm looking at a 97 Kawasaki KLR650, which is liquid cooled, but it has 32,000 miles on it. That seems like a lot of miles. This bike will have minimal use, but my old air cooled thumpers would have never made it that long without a top end rebuild. How many miles should I expect to get out of an adult ridden, liquid cooled thumper like this?
  12. I pulled the trigger too. I pulled it on my mini 14....one of the "problem" groundhogs around my place made the mistake of showing himself in the woods today. That aside, I'm not a big fan of Hi point handguns. They're heavy and clunky, but to give them their due, they are a great value, and I believe they offer a lifetime warranty on their guns. That said, a buddy of mine has a .45 and it's never given him any trouble at all. If yours gives you trouble, they'll take care of it. I also don't see the justification in ultra expensive handguns. I have a Taurus 40 and a Sigma .380 for ccw use. I have a hi point 9mm carbine and I love it. (also a great short range groundhog gun) Shoot your Hi point, then try out a more expensive handgun, and if the differences aren't that noticeable or aren't that important, then you've made the right choice. Enjoy
  13. My heart goes out to you in this difficult time. The one thing I try to remember in such times is that once the mourning passes, what you'll remember is the good times. I miss my mom terribly, but now; years after her passing, it comforts me to think of her, and at times I feel her presence.
  14. I have a Mother and two 6 month old kittens (strays) that've been hanging around, and the Mother just had another litter of 4 kittens. Wouldn't it be great if I bring them to Maintenance Day and raffle them off. Just think of the joy they'd bring to the new owners. Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur......happy kitty, sleepy kitty purrr purrr purrr. Maybe I'll just bring the whole bunch and let 'em go. LOL
  15. I'm with ya. Spent the day up to my elbows in oil / grease, trying to get my backhoe running (problem with valve body). I was thinking the whole time I should be out on old blue, shaking off the Winter blahs. I'll be happy if I can get out for a real ride by May.
  16. Got no clue what any of you are talking about. Wish I did. LOL:confused07:
  17. Now that's a sweet ride! Great job. You should be very proud.
  18. Just for the record, I've ridden three Harleys, (total of a couple hours ride time) although I've never owned one, and I can afford one if I should so choose. I just could not justify it in my mind why I should pay so much more for a bike (any bike) when my first gen is IMHO a good looking, great performing, comfortable bike. I guess I'm pretty utilitarian in my views, and sure, I like the bling that a Harley would bring, but bling and the idea that somehow someone may think I'm special because I dumped the extra cash for a Harley really doesn't matter to me. In fact, it's kind of a turn off. I guess what it comes down to is "whatever trips your trigger"
  19. LOL My cousin has a pos 81 AMF Harley. I don't know of any company that consistently failed more than AMF. Geez...what junk they built. In any case, like the op said, it's underpowered, overweighted, handles like crap, vibrates like hell, is noisy as heck, and simply can't be relied upon to get from point A to point B. But, as he says,....IT'S A HARLEY.....which in HIS opinion makes him cool, and the only real biker in the bunch. When he rides with us I always take along a tow rope. I think every once in a while that I like the looks of the second gen, (a Hardley Davidson), and I'm sure they're fine bikes, but I'm so darned happy with my 87 standard that I can see no reason to change, regardless of price. Harleys.....you can keep 'em.
  20. I think the important bit of evidence here is that the ignition fuse was blown........WHY ?........ It sounds like when you hit the kill switch you shorted something momentarily, which is what killed the radio, and whatever shorted has gone to a consistent short, or is consistently open. Did it blow the fuse again? Any pinched wires after having the "clamshell" apart? The problem may be in close proximity to the switch that was worked on, or along the wiring from the kill switch. If I had a schematic of your bike, that may offer some places to focus on. Anyhoo, that's my $0.02 Best of luck.
  21. What do you call a midget psychic who's committed a crime and is on the run? / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / A small medium at large.....lol:cool10:
  22. Wife and I just got our tickets to Cigarival 2013. It's Friday and Saturday June 28th and 29th. If there's any aficionado's out there we'd be pleased to have you join us. VIP tickets are$265 a piece, but you end up walking out of there with a duffle bag stuffed with premium cigars. Anyhoo, if anyone's interested, here's the address to check it out. http://www.cigarexpo.net/
  23. Unruly, loud children who run wild....apparently thinkin' they own the place,....wherever that place may be...with a total lack of respect or courtesy for elders or others around them....and the parents that let it happen. My 5 siblings and myself had to toe the line when we were kids, and we're better for it now. The entitled "me generation" makes me sad for the future. Courtesy is the lubricant that allows the gears of society to function.
