  2. This post made me realize that while I meant to order the narrow front tire (MT90HB-16), I actually bought the stock size! I've run the narrow size in Avons, and quite like it. The stock E3 is OK, noisy though. Funny, I thought for sure I was getting the narrow.... Dave
  3. I don't think they want the parts back -- no mention of it -- and I'll not be tossing it. Heck, I've still got 6 old tires, just in case someone needs one in a pinch! LOL Great advice, though, thanks. Maybe it could get done, but Houston-area stores don't stock this trailer. If they did, I would have save $100 in shipping, and been able to use my 20% off coupon. I'm glad for all the suggestions and discussion. Believe it or not, the various shots back and forth brought me some clarity. I'll not run the full pressure, for one thing. I'd never really done my due diligence on what MAX pressure meant. So thanks for all your input! dAVE
  4. That would make too much sense. They seem very reluctant to ship orders to the store. Like it is a SHALT NOT policy. It's a shame, because it would seem more efficient and cheaper. Dave
  5. My dealer installed the lights so they A) shared the fuse with the head lamp B) came on only when the low beam was on C) with the lens upside down on one side Check C) today. There is a TOP designation on the lens, and that will ensure you are getting the light in the proper direction. The little switch on the lamp shorted, and it took only one popped fuse to make me realize A) was a dumb idea. I was left with no forward lights! I disliked B) straight off. I use the passing lamps to spot deer, and why would I want that with only low beams? So like many members here, I ran power from the battery to the lamp bucket. I use a relay from the front marker lights to energize a relay, so that when my bike is on, so are the passing lamps. They thus stay on during high beam as well as low. I think today I'll take out the switch. My lights are screwed up again, and it will certainly be that crap switch. It always is. Dave
  6. OK! I called and there was no discussion at all -- they honored the warranty. He asked me what parts I needed, and I requested the Axle, the Hubs, and two Wheels. He went and checked, and they will send them. Problem: they don't stock parts, so they have to get them from the manufacturer in China. That will be 6-8 weeks. :( However, they will check their warehouse for used parts and send those. I really don't mind, as long as they are true! I have a trip in 3 weeks... 6 weeks would be painful. I honestly didn't want a whole new trailer. I've begun making mods (LED lights) and put trip stickers on the inside lid. I know it isn't much modification, but it's mine. I realize now that the hubs and the axle are separate parts. What is the chance that they will be user serviceable/adjustable? As far as the Piggyback, Kreg and I put ours side by side and couldn't see much difference, if any. He had a nice chrome back bumper, but that was it. Dave

Well, I haven't called yet (stupid Pacific time zone), but I just now read their warranty: * 90 days from purchase (yesterday was the 90th day, today is Day 91) * Send the unit to them for inspection, transportation charges paid by me. I spent over $100 in shipping the first time! I hope they are better than what their warranty specifies. Dave
  8. The box is welded, and the flange is welded to the axle (wrong, I think). All the welding was by HF. I'll find out in an hour or so when they open if they will honor their warranty. Yes, I'm calling when they open. You know, because spending $160 in tires on each trip is cheap? And mounting them in Zion National Park will be a great way to spend my vacation time? "You go take the tour honey; I'll be getting greasy swapping out tires." Dave

  10. The assembly is designed to be fool proof. The main frame of the trailer is a welded square.(1) There are two receivers per side, where the leaf spring assembly bolts in. The leaf spring themselves are a single unit with two leafs, and the outer leaf has a pin sticking out (down, as the trailer sits).(2) The axle is a convenient C-shape, with a hole for the pin. Thus, the axle aligns automatically.(3) I use the term 'convenient' ironically, because now I cannot rotate the axle.   11. Kreggerdoodle lent me his 48" straightedge. Before I did a more complicated procedure, I decided on the simple test first. I took off the wheels and put the straightedge along the left wheel flange (?)... where the bolts stick out. I was struck that I could see that the left wheel pointed left. I measured the left side in two places. The center of the axle hub was at 46". At 22", the straightedge was 5-3/4" away from the tongue. At 2", it was at 6-1/16" away. In other words, the straight edge moved out 5/16" over a 20" distance. OK, the tongue may not be at a right angle to the axle. I measured the other side. At 22" and 2", it was at 5-7/8". Due to a difference in elevation, I say the 22" point is closer than measured... they might have been at 5-1/2" and 5-5/8". Anyways, both tires are pointed out, one more than the other. I reckon... anyone disagree? flb_78 wanted photos, and here they are. You are looking at the back end of the trailer, the rear of the tires. These photos ought to blow up pretty huge, so gaze away.   12. I think the point made, is that if you change your oil every 3000 miles, and your trip is 5000 miles, you can expect to change your oil during the trip. Dave

  14. Recovering oil will be peanuts compared to the money they recover when they claim the cleanup costs as a business expense, and write it off their taxes. Dave
  15. I'm not sure what to think here. Our 2x4s are hardly straight. From past experience, I doubt I could find one straight. They all have bows or twists, or something. Most are junk, and I think using them as wall studs is a problem. As far as plywood, my hat is off to you if you can fling it around like that. Here in the Houston Hot, I would be worn out just getting it out of the truck I'd have to rent to carry it. You must be much beefier than you look! Maybe some electrical conduit will work, although finding an 8' straight length might be a problem. Dave
  16. Yesterday I went to Kreggerdoodles to change my rear tire. I had my trailer with me when his neighbor came over. I gather that he does tire work as part of his job, and we showed him my bald tires. He detected feathering in the tread. It is his belief that the tires are toed in/out to some degree. Kreg lent me his long straight edge, so I'll take a stab tonight to see if I can measure some toeing. Darn it. Dave

  24. Thanks everyone! It was a fine trip, but it is nice to be home! Yes, that is the Butler mod. I'll admit to getting a little squirmy the last day. Most of that was spent in the saddle with 5 minute breaks for gas. I waited as long as possible, but after dropping my bride in Green Bay I began alternating beads, sheepskin, and nothing. None of those are a silver bullet, but working together you can really chew up miles. I think I have about 40,000 miles on the Butler mod, and I could probably use new foam. Dave
  25. I feel like I am taking advantage of your kindness, but I'll pull her out there and we can look. Should I keep it loaded like I pulled? Does it matter? I can't believe that I loaded it really poorly or unusually, but heck, it's me you are talking about. Just to confirm a question, yes, I am now running a second set of complete tire/wheel assemblies. The OEMs were nylon, and these are rubber. MikeWa, this doesn't have shocks. It has simple leaf springs. I remember that when we assembled it, we thought it looked pretty idiot proof. Isn't that funny? Dave
