I started restoring missing picture attachments last week. Like I said, this is going to be a long process. I'm starting with the Tech Library threads and have already restored quite a few of them. I am going to post a sticky on this thread. What I would like for you to do is post links to this thread to threads that you run across with missing pictures that you feel are most important. To me, that means threads with technical information and etc. that you run across while searching for answers. After the Tech Libraries, I will be concentrating mostly on the Tech Talk forums. Any threads in the watering holes and other areas will have a much lower priority. Over the years I've always tried to stress that tech posts should be put in the tech talk forums and this us a good example of another reason that is important. Though I'm starting with the Tech Library, if I see a thread posted here that somebody needs in order to help with a current issue, I will get on those ASAP. I've already received a few private messages about just that type of thread and have restored them already. Thanks for your assistance.

What do you DOG owners use so your dog can ride on the bike?
Freebird replied to SilvrT's topic in Watering Hole

Here is an update on my AURANTHETIC bike that I am rebulding

I love it Eck. Very very nice. How is the motor? Is that it that I see behind the battery rack? Looks like a starter? I assume it works well? -
LOL....I'm going to miss a lot of you when you are gone. Try to stay in touch.

You didn't tweak the establishment at all and I was not the least bit upset at your reply. Just felt that some clarification was needed. There is more than one way to look at many things.

I just found and reattached the jpg and the pdf files to the first post. -
I can see how some of the comments could ruffle feathers but when people ask for advice and opinions on a given subject, they really should hear from those with positive as well as negative experiences. Would it be right for then to get only positive feedback when there are some negative opinions that may be of interest? I understand that if you own something and really like it that you don't want to hear others talk it down. I think we are all that way to some extent. If I'm thinking about spending my hard earned money on something though, I really do want to hear both sides. I've not owned a actual full trike conversion nor a Voyager conversion. I've ridden both though. I don't think I've spent enough time on either one to be able to offer an expert opinion. I can only offer my initial feelings. The full trike conversion did handle much better than the Voyager. That's just the fact of what I experienced. Now given more time on the Voyager, I may well have become accustomed to it and been perfectly fine and if I were on a budget or just didn't want to spend the big money for a Hannigan conversion, I would certainly not rule it out. I jut think it's good though that when people ask for opinions, they get opinions.

Prayers for jonsey

I too am sorry to hear this news. I met him a few times and he was a great guy. Prayers to all the family and friends. May he rest in peace. -
Any of the aerosol type. Doesn't matter I don't think. Go with the "extra hold".

Hairspray always worked for me.

LOL....that was a long time ago. The day in ... April I think...of 1999 when I was taking delivery of my brand new RSV.

I've looked at every option I could think of and talked to the people at VBulletin and keep being told no, there is not way to do that. Probably is but apparently not within my or their capabilities. I've already started restoring pictures to posts. Did one of yours, among others, today in the read only library.
-
That would certainly be easier. If you don't know how to do that though, feel free to send them to Eck or Myself.

Pulled the "barb" out of the fuel cock ....
Freebird replied to Mad Dog's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes, no problem. Mine came out once on the '99. I used a rubber mallet to tap it back in but a piece of wood with a regular hammer will work fine also. Never leaked a single time after I did it. -
That may be possible but everybody I've asked has said that it's not. They all tell me that you can't selectively input the missing data. They say that If I did backed it up today and then restored the old one that I would not be able to then selective input everything from that date until now. If I could do that, then it would be the same as simply importing the old date into the current one. I'm told that neither will work. I've talked to people a lot smarter than me and if they can't do it, I know that I can't. Maybe some folks out there can, it wouldn't surprise me, but I can't.
-
Well the date was October 29th, 2014. Not all photos were lost though. Some threads still have them intact.
-
Unfortunately that won't work. The images are not missing, they are in the file folders. They are just no longer associated with the posts. All the posts and image links are stored in the database. According to the experts, there is no way to just selective restore the database. It's all or nothing. Knownhost only keeps backups for two weeks. That's not the problem though. I have a backup that I did just hours before the upgrade. The problem is that there is just no way to selectively restore it.
-
No, because though a backup was done, they tell me that it won't include the information that is missing from the database. Not only that, but we would lose everything from the time that it was done.
-
Most should be on the site if they were uploaded to the site. If you have the originals, that would be the easiest for me. If I have to find and download them then I may as well just do it myself. Any help is certainly appreciated.
-
Yes, if any of you can edit your own posts and upload the photos that would be fantastic. Every little bit helps.
-
OK folks, here's the thing. We lost a LOT of photo attachments in the forums. I am more than a little upset over it. When I did the major upgrade to the site, it caused this issue. What bothers me is that VBulletin knew that there was an issue and was a procedure that would have prevented it but they did not make it known at the time. The problem was not with the new software but actually with the old. It's pretty technical but the short version is that a flag was improperly set in the database of the old version that we ran for years. When the software was updated, the new version corrected the bug that caused the flat to be set improperly but in correcting that bug, it saw old those old attachments to be seen as "orphan" attachments not attached to any post and deleted them from the database. So, the actual images are stored in directories on the server but the links to them were removed from the posts and the database. The only way for me to restore them at this point is to manually edit every thread that is missing images. I know that there is some good technical information that is not missing images that are important to understanding the subject being discussed. Therefore, I am committed to correcting this problem and can assure you that I will. I have already started as of this morning but I can tell you, it's going to take me several weeks and possibly even months to get it all done. The procedure is that I have to check every thread that had pictures attached. I then have to look at the date of that post and then search the image directory for the relevant pictures. I then have to download those pictures. The software changes the file type to .attach instead of .jpg or whatever it was originally. I have to download those photos, change the extension back to .jpg and then edit the post and reattach the pictures. I will have to do this for thousands of pictures because there is no way to do it in any type of bulk process. Like I said, this is going to take some time but when I'm sitting in hotel rooms in the evenings, I will be working on it. Please be patient. In the meantime, if you are are trying to get immediate information about a particular procedure and find the pictures missing, please send me a PM and I'll get on that one ASAP. Please be patient. This is going to take me MANY MANY hours but I will get it done.

Oldie but Goodie - July 1986 issue of "Venture Road" magazine
Freebird replied to VanRiver's topic in Watering Hole
You are right. They were once THE club for the Venture owner. I was a member for a few years and went to a few of their rallies. They published a nice magazine. There was a time when they were even sponsored by Yamaha and gave away a brand new Venture at their rallies during that time. A year or two after Yamaha dropped the Venture in 1993, the decision was made to change the name to the Motorcycle Touring Association. They started losing member during those years but put up a good fight to keep it going. After Yamaha came out with the Royal Star Venture in 1999, they changed the name again and it because the VTS/MTA or MTA/VTS, don't remember. Membership has continued to decline but they have still kept it going. They still have a website at http://www.mtariders.com I actually registered that domain for them and built the website there but it has been redone a few times since then. For a while after I first launched it and the forum there, it was a fairly busy site but has gone steadily down over the years and there is very little activity now. I check it every once in a while and often there are no new message from the time I was there before. They are still chugging along though and I wish them nothing but the best. I think that they still have the Venture Roads magazine but I'm not sure that they have a print copy any longer. I know that they were publishing a .pdf version but not even sure about that now. -

It's looking beautiful Eck. That thing is going to belong in a museum. -
$120.00 per day in Naples, FL. About 188 miles from Port Richey though. You'll spend about as much on gas as the difference between 120 and 170. http://www.toys2rent.com/detail/motorcycles---mopeds/united-states/florida/collier/naples/105
