Once again, it was our honor to host you at our home this year for Freebird's Maintenance Day. Eileen and I both love having you here and it sure seems quiet when you are all gone. Here are a few pictures, hope the rest of you post yours also.

Trunk removal
Freebird replied to Spicermech's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
I've read that the bike comes with the trunk installed but with the rear bolts not installed or somethings so that the trunk tilts forward so to that the bike fits into a shorter crate. Not sure of the details. -
87 VR, carb problem
Freebird replied to Gearhead's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Maybe I didn't read closely enough or you just used a different term for them but did you clean all the jets really well? I'm mot talking about just soaking them but running a small wire through them and soaking and rinsing them again and then repeat a couple of times. I know of several here who have cleaned their carbs and still not gotten the jets unplugged until finally running a wire through them. -
New guy with a new 2020 TC ...
Freebird replied to JR333's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
I pretty much agree with him. My phone is much easier to put a destination in that the NAV system OR a Garmin. I never use the NAV system on the bike or even in my vehicles. That being said, If it was not working correctly after I paid so much for a bike, I would still expect it to be repaired. -
No apologies necessary but you were missed. Several people asked about you. Hope to see you again soon.

Does anyone know how to increase top end speed?
Freebird replied to Petersilva71's topic in Watering Hole
I've owned three RSVs. All of them would exceed 105 MPH. With the speedo corrected on all, I've seen 112 to 117 on all three. The 117 came on my second '99 model with the Dynatech module and the VMax rear end. NOTE....it is TRUE that they will actually run faster in 4th gear than 5th. My highest speeds on all three, even with the VMax rear, was in 4th gear. Now you weigh more than me so I can't say that's not affecting your final results. I'm am 6'3" and around 200 lbs. Probably 210 at that time. -
First Oil Change
Freebird replied to Freebird's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Definitely 3 drain plugs. I didn't have an oil filter wrench, actually I do but didn't find it until the next day, but it looks to me like a small strap wrench would work just fine. -
It has rained a lot here and rained again today. The yard is pretty wet and we've had so much rain, it is saturated and has nowhere to go. It's supposed to be a day of sunshine tomorrow so hopefully things will dry out a bit. If so, there shouldn't be an issue with tents and etc. if you stay on the higher areas but the usual driving across the yard will likely be a bad idea. I recommend you all riders try to stay on the gravel driveway. I'll be here to sort of guide and direct but just warning you that getting stuck will be pretty easy if you get off in the grass. First arrivals this year were Yamamama and Moped. They got here this afternoon and are all settled in. Looking forward to other arrivals tomorrow.l

Windshield
Freebird replied to Freebird's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Yea, that's the one that I mentioned in my first post that is sold by Big Bike Parts. I've not seen it in person but a couple of posts have stated that it's a bit flimsy. Other reports have been OK though. It also only comes in clear and I would prefer one that it lightly tinted. -
Windshield
Freebird replied to Freebird's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Looks very similar to the Baker unit. Interesting and would probably do the job but I would prefer just a wider weindshield. -
I agree 100%. Ride there, rent a bike when you get there, whatever. If you do it on a motorcycle, it counts.

Windshield
Freebird replied to Freebird's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
If you can find it, I'll see what I can do but if I remember correctly, his original models required drilling the windshield. Looks like the ones he sells now are a sandwich design clamp so no drilling is necessary. I doubt I would drill my windshield to experiment with it. Sooner or later, somebody will hopefully come out with a quality shield for this bike. Maybe. Production numbers are low enough that most won't bother. -
Well, I hope that torquing it properly solved your problem but I seriously doubt that it did. Though I would certainly want to torque it to the recommeded...haven't looked it up but I think it is 110 ft. lbs...... but I think that 80 is tight enough that it wouldn't contribute to the issue you are having.

What is it doing? Is the fan running and it's just not cooling or is the fan not running? If it's just the fan not running, it could be as simple as the starting capacitor on the motor. I've had to replace two of them on my home unit over the past few years. If that is it, it's cheap fix. Less than $20.00 and even less than $10.00 if you have time to order it online.

Windshield
Freebird replied to Freebird's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
@cowpuc , Baker used to make them. Same guy who made the lower wind deflectors. He used to be at the old V-Daze Rallies and would install them and the lower wings as you purchased them. He is actually still in business but no longer offers anything for the Yamaha. Here is an example of basically the same thing. https://bakerbuiltairwings.com/proddetail.php?prod=1STLNWSW -
Windshield
Freebird replied to Freebird's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
The beef is, just like on the RSV, the windshield is not wide enough. -
They have assured me that they will be ready for us this year. We will leave my house between 5:15 and 5:30. They are expecting us at 6:00. For or those who want to meet us there, here is a link to the restaurant. http://thelube.com/locations/ohio/vermilion/

Unfortunately, I think you may also end up just being a spammer. You list Boston as your city but your IP address says you are posting from the Ukraine.
