  1. Thanks for the heads up. Easy for the rider to miss, especially on the rear.
  2. Price check: A VR member friend called them. Actually dealer is $14,995 on that bike, not $14 even. Still, 40% below a dressed Ultra or Roadmaster. People are throwing out that Yamaha will be showing several new 2015's next week in Orlando, including a touring RSV replacement. If so, curious on where it will fit. Likely about $24K(?). (I see that Yamaha has the largest booth. http://www.aimexpousa.com/ ) Show is open to public Oct 18-19. Someone down there, STEVE K?, go, and tell us what you see.
  3. Me and a friend, who bought an Indian Chieftain a few months ago, were at Myrtle Beach looking and sitting on the new Road Master. A fella walked up, pretty pumped. He had been at the HD dealer in the morning. He priced a high end Ultra, with intent to buy. But he left the HD dealer to give himself a cool down and breakfast. He wandered to the Indian dealer, saw the Road Master, rode it and,,, yep bought it right then. Did I say he was pumped?
  4. I have two of them,,,,, One on my RSTD and one on my RSV. It is just a small vent hose on the bottom of the water pump. Tuck it back in to the inside of the exhaust toward the ground. Mine are both clean and dry and do not show signs of ever having drainage. My guess,, like the drain hole on a car water pump, will only be used when the unit fails.
  5. Brian, as noted,,,, it's still in the box. Have not had the need to use it or the "round-toit" to play with it, yet. I could only go by ratings (electric best rated was WORX or Remington) and word of mouth that they can do great yard work. Got it a Lowes. I did get and use the WORX jaw saw last year and it will cut a 4" limb like mad. I got the long extension and found you need pretty good arms to hold it in the air on a ladder. (thus got the chainsaw). Else, it is easy and fast. I just know that my need every year or so does not warrant keeping up with a two stroke. Oh, but one thought. If you lost power due to a storm,,, it will be hard to use the electric! Mike G.
  6. I use my Stihl every couple of years,,, so I offered it to a friend if he would buy me a good quality electric. He likes it. My new WORX is still in the box, 2 months later. But my yard is only 3/4 acre,,, so a 100' cord can cut anything I need. He's got 7 acres, so he's "happy as a camel on Wednesday". Not worried about bad gas no more. If I decide to be a lumberjack when I retire next May,,,, "I may have to re-think this thing". Mike Mike Mike
  7. A friend on another forum touted the 3G's when he installed them on his Road Star 3 years ago. So, I tried a set on my RSTD. Good at first (not enough to brag). But they seemed to be short lived. Replaced them with stock NGK. Just replaced those at 40k miles.
  8. Save these ideas,,,, WE'RE GOING TO NEED THEM FOR OUR ELECTRIC BIKES!!!! (If we live that long.)
  9. Buy Steve's! His wiring worked great with mine (which already had other stuff wired in).
  10. Who slept on the left side?
  11. my RSTD is starting to have a problem about once a week. Hit the starter, and, it's kinda like it has a flat spot. Does a uuuuuuh. Hit it again and kicks over just fine. So,, not the battery on mine. Then fine all week. (This is my daily commute bike, so I start it 4 times a day.) I thought, lose connections first. Tightened a few places. But, every few days, it happens again. Is there such a thing as a bad spot on the starter? Or do I need to chase more connections? Not worried about it. Cause I think if it fails,, I can probably rock it in gear and get it to go. (??) Mike G.
  12. Jim, My dad was a WWII Hellcat pilot, off the Essex. The bike cost more than the bird! "By the end of 1942 Grumman had produced ten complete F6Fs: in the next twelve months the Navy accepted 2,547 Hellcats. At its peak, Grumman was producing more than 600 Hellcats a month. Unit cost for the F6F, less government supplied equipment (primarily engine, prop, armament, radio) was initially $50,000, dropping to $35,000 by the end of the production run." 12,272 Hellcats were produced. 13. Found the pictures of my Rivco Rack, with the lights.
  14. I got the RIVCO rack and added Harbor Freight LED's to a panel I put on the back. I'll look for pics later today. Handy and very bright lights. By time I was done, had over $200 into it.
  15. I talked to Bob Starr, US communications director for Yamaha in late July. He told the STAR Touring group of about 400 in MO, that Yamaha will be putting out a bike in 2015 for the Venture owners. A few of us talking to him direct off stage still got only indirect answers but I when I said I had no interest if it was not at least V4, he said "then, just wait". Now, I'm not likely to buy a NEW bike, always prefer to get one a year or two used (for price). But, I think I got my answer from a top dog.
  16. Years back heard there was going to be a model merger of the Plymouth Valliant and the Mercury Comet,, think they were going to call it the Vomet! (Just poking fun, Larry)
  17. And an Ultimate Seat set!
  18. Heard it years ago, still laughing today. Checked SNOPES,,, says undermined, but they do note details about it, including the guy who said he left the message. http://www.snopes.com/autos/mishaps/beating.asp
  19. Okay Steve,,,, a man's got to do,,,,,, But,,, don't deactivate here (or there-ST),,, you know too much. And, Thanks, Mike G
  20. I don't see much info on maintaining the cooling system (antifreeze). a) fluid reservoir under the seat b) changing out the fluid Owners manual says replace at each 24 months, take to dealer. And they don't say what formula to add. So questions: So, what's real on how to and how often to change fluid. Is there a tech article on replacing the fluid? I saw one on Venturers but it looks like they strip it down to get every drop. I doubt that is necessary to swap out every drop. And, my reserve is low. What formula is it and should I stick with OEM or can you mix it with a brand from auto parts store? Might be hard to find "blue". Thanks
  21. I bought a mint used one from a west coast member on STAR Touring. I did not know he was 6'4" till it was already shipped. I'm 5'8", add an inch in shoes. So about the same inseam as you. I called Russell and they told me about their strict sizing method for buyers, and they could not modify it. Oh. This was the single piece double seat. The wings were so forward, nope can't get feet on ground and sure can't back up. So, friend Steve Anderjack (on this site & STAR) happens to be about 6'5" and scooped it up next day. He loves it. Oh funny thing, he had his oil changed at STAR Days this year in MO. The shorter shop guy dropped the bike on the lift (with damage), probably because he was short and could not get his feet solid. (They repaired the damage.) Not looking to buy again (liked the used price) but glad to hear that they do make the Daylong workable for shorter inseams.
  22. Question for those who own one (or more): Will is keep it's charge if you keep it in your hot car or bike a few months?
  23. Several weeks ago, was posting here about MC jacks. Someone said you can beat the Pitt Bull jack. (I knew that) I looked on Craigslist and found one for half price 100 miles away. Had it that afternoon. I plan to retire in May. Pretty sure I can find the bass boat I want then.
  24. Interesting,,, may get one when I retire and travel next year.
