Clutch Question for 2nd Gens
RDawson replied to BlueSky's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes that's normal. Anytime the side stand is down in gear it kills the engine. It keeps you from taking off with the stand down. That's how I usually kill it when parking, pull up and kick the stand down and then turn off the key. -
Down south too. 78* and sunny today. Dr says no riding yet, physical therapist says no riding, wife -no riding. So while I was alone today I didn't run my errands, I didn't go to the next town over, and I didn't detour down by the lake. Therefore I didn't put 75 miles on the bike and there are no pics to prove it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Wonder why my shoulder is a little sore...........:cool10:

Just keep that torch away from the carb screws. Bad things happen when it goes boom :225: :rotfl: -
Clutch Slave Cylinder
RDawson replied to uhfradarwill's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Like every other bolt on a bike the steel bolts like to bond into aluminum. What I've found to work the best is to use the socket type Allen wrenches and once seated in the bolt give it a few light raps with a hammer. The shock and vibration breaks that bond and they back right out. The key here is to look at where you're hammering and not get crazy with it to the point of cracking aluminum. I've done it on auto transmissions and bikes for years, works real well on those Phillips screws too. I took a carb apart recently on a Honda Shadow that somebody had the screws half stripped, hit em with a flat punch and backed em right out. The owner had already given up getting it apart and was ready to order a carb. Had carb cleaned and him riding within an hour. -
New guy with Carb issues
RDawson replied to Andy in AZ's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Welcome to the forum. You have a Royal Star Venture or as called here a 2nd generation Venture. Look on the forum page, scroll down to the 2nd gen read only library, engine and drivetrain section and you'll find your starting point. You're in the right place to find anything you need for your ride and will be the best $12 you've ever spent to join. Once it's running right you've got a great ride. -
HHMMMMM I've been considering trying the IBA Saddle Sore 1000 after getting over this shoulder surgery. A Cowpuc hotdog M&G is approx 565 miles from here. A quick ride up (trusty Iphone says 8hrs), a few dogs, and a nap before heading south might just be what the dr ordered. Well actually the dr is trying to tell me I'm nuts for trying to get back on in the next couple weeks. He's wanting me to wait 6-8 more weeks. At 1130 miles round trip I could possibly turn it into a 1500 the next day.

According to local police and media it isn't against the law in KY. There have been a couple of petitions to get it into law sent to Bevin without any progress.

That's why I used the words "gentleman, asked, and explained ". True feelings and thoughts don't show in text and I wanted to use this as a good example, I should have also said "nicely asked". I never expected less from you. While I sometimes have a short fuse a friendly conversation usually gets better results in times like that. A little education goes a long way with most people and will hopefully keep someone safer in the future. See ya at Don's.

Maybe if we call them just before leaving Don's and take the scenic route again they'll be ready when we get there :witch_brew:. At least they did give us a discount on the bill and tried to make it right. I still had a good time and got to meet people.

I just saw a post from a trailing rider, 4 bikes coming home from an autism charity ride and ran into a heavy layer of grass. He leaves behind a young daughter. I was with Bongobob and Marcarl near Don's MD last year when Bob stopped and asked a gentleman mowing to stop blowing it on the road and explained the dangers. I have done the same, but we need help educating the public. The comments on FB blaming the rider are atrocious. Our local Sheriff posts often about the dangers but it's a common problem here.

I just got a call a bike went down due to grass clippings covering the road in the next county over. Sadly the rider didn't make it.

Well Dang It! Fuel Pump Issue?
RDawson replied to BlueSky's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Points are under the plastic cap on the pump. Look in tech library, it's an easy repair. -
McKibben Motorsports Lake Wales Star Venture Transcontinental $19,995. Found Deluxes for less.
-
Last time I posted one for this price Freebird had already snatched it up.
-
Just saw a new one on Cycle Trader in Florida. $19,999.

That's sickening. Glad you're ok.

There are old threads discussing this from before the first ones were delivered. Some including me made the statement about buying the first run of anything would include some issues. Bikes, cars, trucks, etc are going to find a few growing pains with new designs. That being said if I laid out that kind of cash and had problems quickly I'd be somewhat upset too. I bought my wife a new car in 94 that exhibited some electrical/electronic issues is the first two weeks, Oldsmobile had the car more than we did that month. After some urging by me they stepped up and gave us another identical car that we put nearly 200k on with only maintenance parts ( water pump, brakes, etc). I'm sure Yamaha will stand behind their issues and make it right. While I've said it before the gen 3 isn't the bike for me I hope it's the best thing to come along since the 1st gens and give miles of smiles.

I hate that this is turning somewhat political. It doesn't matter to me if someone served in combat, in support roles, or during peacetime. I started the post when I saw it was VN Veterans Day, I have the same respect for every veteran that has served this great country. VN era vets got shorted by the attitude of many back then and even though I was too young to know anything about it I'm bothered by it. So hats off to all veterans.
-
Born in 1970 I was a tad too young but I have several friends who put in time over there, my grandfather served in WWI. While a spinal injury derailed my high school plans to join I hold deep respect for those who have.
-
In honor of today let me say thank you to those who served.

Another pack of morons giving the rest of us a bad name.
RDawson replied to baylensman's topic in Watering Hole
That's exactly what I could see happening here. 4x4 trucks crosswise of the street. They will run people driving in the left lane off the road, brake checks, etc. so dirt bikes wouldn't stand a chance.
