  1. How about a phone mount with a speedo app?
  2. Junior told me a couple days ago that Pinwall sold out at auction. No idea who bought it or what the future is.
  3. I used RTV at the cam recesses. I didn’t replace the rubber plugs, I didn’t know about them when I did it. My rear cover has started seeping recently (30,000 miles later)but it’s gonna have to wait til next winter, although I’ve heard of some re-torquing the bolts and having good luck. There’s always been an argument whether to do the valves but like you I plan to keep it til either it’s worn out or I am so I invested the time, I took them close to the outer limit to try not going there again.
  4. Granted I’m in small town America but I couldn’t find a dealer around here with shims. Closest Yamaha dealer asked me what kind of antique I was working on to need 25mm shims. The RSV wasn’t even out of its 10 year service window at that time, that told me they weren’t correctly servicing the bikes they sold. I needed one that Earl’s kit didn’t have, a member here mailed me one
  5. Not really newer but definitely not worn out. This one is for sale locally, he started out around $7k several months ago. I’m not looking for one but if the price keeps dropping I may have to. I just don’t want to start over since I’ve gone through mine and preemptively fixed all the known issues and added all the extras I wanted. And yes that is the correct mileage 6700.
  6. I used @skydoc_17’s shim kit. He’s got the feeler gauges, picks to get the shims out easier, and the cam tool. I highly recommend having a kit like his to save tons of time. Instead of going through all 16 valves to figure out where to move shims I did each one as I went and then rolled it through again to double check each one.
  7. I feel your pain, I finally got the hardware installed in my back last month. Maybe we can meet up and get a ride in this summer, I owe you a lunch sometime.
  8. Idle screw is under the tank right side. At the throttle there is a cable slack adjuster.
  9. Depends if you measure it before or after you crush it.
  10. Pretty cool. We live in the middle of nowhere, probably not 98 kids could find my house so it gets me out of all that work🤣🤣🤣 Great job to make them happy.
  11. Wondering if maybe you got some bad gas? Filled up recently or used the reserve setting on the petcock for the first time in a while sucking some trash in? I filled up at an old country store in Illinois once and got bad gas, it took 3 or 4 tank fills before it worked itself out.
  12. Ha. He said creative not factual. 🤪🤪🤪 Besides that I haven’t seen my bike in a few weeks, it’s on a stand under a cover locked away until spring. I finally had the back surgery I’ve been putting off for years, doc says absolutely no riding, wife would kill me if I even mentioned it.
  13. This was me coming thru a tunnel on the parkway last week. I had hit the airhorn to see how much the wife would jump at the echo, laughed at her and exited the tunnel to find carnage. Three cars, two bikes, and a hiker in a pile, parts scattered everywhere. The first car upon hearing the horn and seeing a single yellow light thought he was meeting a freight train panicked, locked the brakes and lost control wreaking havoc. Three cars, two bikes, and a hiker in a pile, parts scattered everywhere. Luckily no injuries but it took two days to figure out which parts went to which vehicle. Lawyers are recommending I add more lights to look less like a locomotive. The best news out of it was that me hitting that broken truck bumper shook two lost 10mm sockets from somewhere in the motor and landed on my floorboard.
  14. Full manual in the “tech section read only”
  15. Yes, longer dog bones lower the bike. The kit also comes with a caliper relocation bracket that puts the caliper below the swingarm without that you’ll wipe out the fender.
  16. Baron’s sells a lowering kit for the rear of a 2nd gen, you can lower the front bey slide the forks up the triple tree.
  17. Probably so. I’ve been putting it off for several years, doc really wanted to do it last February. No way I was letting him kill my spring n summer riding and fishing. Maybe it’ll be just cold enough I won’t want to be out anyway.
  18. Congrats on the return. They opened me up Wednesday, sent me home Friday. My bike is on a stand winterized for the first time ever.
  19. I’m with ya Skid. This year was the 1st time Kandi could go with me to Asheville. I’ve been pointing out places we rode to her on the news footage. From Black Mountain, Biltmore Village, KOA, etc. I’m glad she got to go see it before this. Heartbreaking for those suffering over there.
  20. I saw video today of Gregg Biffle flying over Swannanoa, Black Mountain, and the KOA we were at last month for the Asheville Rally. Unreal!!!! The people still trapped in the mountains without supplies, water, medications, is heartbreaking.
  21. Did you look on Partzilla? That’s where I get my OEM parts.
  22. We’re in Gainesville, Fl at our daughter’s house. Luckily the bad stuff went all around us. Lots of tree damage/power outages around here but nothing catastrophic. We got more rain and damage from it back home in KY than my daughter’s townhouse complex got. The damage both North and South of us is unreal. Now they’re watching another disturbance forming in the same area Helene formed. It’s possible for another hit next week. I can’t imagine the destruction if it follows the same path.
  23. Shoot me a messsage as a reminder next week. We should be back home around 10/4 (see what I did there 😁). We’re in Florida fending off the hurricanes from our daughter’s house.
  24. Look on marketplace before you make an offer. A lot depends on whether you’re looking for a project or a bike to ride. I know it’s near no miles but low mileage 1st gen MKII (86-93) bikes are pretty available below 2k running. MKI’s have their following and are worth whatever you’re comfortable spending, MKII’s don’t have the 2nd gear or frame issues of the MKI. Both are an absolute blast to ride.
