  1. That was a great thing to do, (especially considering the price of gas up here!) Here's to all the Steves out there
  2. One that has worked here & caught a LOT of people. Something along these lines This is the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) your account is in arrears. You must pay immediately, we have informed the police who are coming to arrest you. To avoid arrest you must immediately obtain iTunes gift cards in the sum of $$$$$ (hundreds to thousands). People have actually done this! One lady was on the news recently, & out $2500 (I think they wanted $5k in total). I'm not sure how the scammer gets hold of the gift cards, whether they have to be sent somewhere or what.
  3. You know that old saying you can please all of the people some of the time, etc etc. The general public never cease to amaze me, we all like a deal & that to my mind is a deal! A 25 year old vehicle without a scratch doesn't exist & people need to get their heads out of their a$$es Hang in there it's a great bike, the right person will come along & hopefully your bike will go to an appreciative home. Try to have a good day despite the dickheads.
  4. Hmpff! 6-8 degC (43-45 degF) here today! Really cold breeze too. Had thought I may get out for a short one after all the rain we've had over the past few weeks, but after medical appointments earlier, it's now 4pm & getting dark. More rain due tonight & into next week. Need someone down south to adopt me! lol
  5. Sorry for your loss, good that you can remember her fondly. Hopefully she had a full & happy life, she certainly saw some changes. I lost my Dad & Mom a number of years ago & still miss them both. Take Care & value the family that you have around you.
  6. Always liked the look of those Corbin Hard Bags. They do them for a number of bikes. I was looking at very similar for my Vulcan, but muchos $$$!! The bags shown in the link are for the Roadliner & Stratoliner (not V Stars) so not cheap bikes to start off with! But Corbin sure do make some beautiful stuff Actually what I meant to post was... Wait is that a Flying pig I see?...New Yamaha Bagger?.... HaHaHaHa...LOL...LMAO...ROTFL!!!
  7. No doubt the "tour"pack" will be available sometime at an extortionate cost. Nice looking bike though but very Honda FB6 looking. As someone commented the passenger doesn't look too well catered for.
  8. So very Sorry to hear that Heather, Just hope you heal quickly. Very best for a safe trip home. Hope you can get your wrist fixed quickly Stay positive. Best wishes from the frozen north.
  9. Quite Normal. Chrome parts, around the engine, exhaust, crankcase etc get too hot to touch under normal operation. (ie you would burn your fingers if you did touch those parts) You'll often also feel heat from the cylinders on your leg/ thigh when stopping at traffic lights, junctions etc again quite normal. Congratulations on the new bike! Hope it serves you well.
  10. Yep! Sounds like Reg/ Rectifier. Replace asap. If you can't find one locally I had good service when I needed Stator & RR for my Vulcan from Ricks Electrical https://ricksmotorsportelectrics.com/l/rectifier-regulators Item 10-413 $79.95 Good luck
  11. Not sure of the intricacies of how Fuel Inj works but on my 2006 Vulcan, it usually starts first go & no messing with choke. Full? half? maybe? maybe not? Once running the the carbs are fine but I find the fuel delivery for the first few minutes a bit suspect. The Vulcan runs from the word go.
  12. Agree totally with posters who comment on the lack of EFI. That should have been on my original list. A bike manufactured in (in my case) 2008-9 should have EFI. Most manufacturers were using that in the early 2000's or even before.
  13. Agree totally Clive, it really is getting ridiculous! I've seen so much bad driving by these small unlicensed, uninsured vehicles it really makes me angry. My argument is that they are quite capable of seriously damaging property or even killing someone & no-one knows who they are. There is no way to trace them in the event of an accident if they decide to take off. Cyclists are just the same! I had a near miss recently when this clown on a small scoot to the right of me, in a right turn lane took off from the lights & cut in front of me to actually go straight on.
  14. Wow! that sure is loaded Lenny, does it make it top heavy with that amount of luggage? With ya on the 6th gear (though 4th & 5th are supposed to be OD I also would appreciate a tach & a gear indicator (being a forgetful old begger!)
  15. We all like our rides, but they do have their faults. So what DON'T you like about your bike? What should have been changed, designed or done differently? Mine: 1. That silly little luggage rack on what is essentially a touring bike it should be much bigger 2. No Passenger grab bars as standard (or as an accessory) 3. Very few accessories available for the RSTD & not many places to mount them. 4. A bike of this vintage (2009) shouldn't (imo) be using carbs. it should have Fuel Injection 5. A gear indicator would be very useful
  16. My RSTD is pretty much stock, it came with spare (LA Chopper) slip-ons (which I installed to try), & I plan to put additional lighting on the front but that's about it & I may even put the stock pipes back on too.
  17. Congrats on retirement Just make sure that 1. You don't spend too much time out of the country (or you might lose your citizenship) 2. You don't spend too much time in the US or they'll be taxing your pension Enjoy your travels:beer:
  18. Good Grief... there IS someone else in the world who isn't on facebook/ snapchat/ twitter/ instagram etc (I am not alone! lol)
  19. Kretz

    So long

I'm sure you'll love the Vulcan, it's what I was looking for before I came across the RSTD. By 06 they'd also sorted the plastic oil pump gear problem. The Voyager is the ultimate for me... Have fun with the Nomad & ride safe!
  20. Agree Totally Sailor! This year ICBC gave a smaller "cut" to the Gov't "to keep our rate increases lower" LOL In the UK good driver bonuses can get up to 60% & more (ie your premium is lowered by 60%) here they do 43% max & tell you it's a good deal. imo when we have multiple bikes we should also be able to insure the most expensive bike & be able switch plates (without paying $30 every time we do that!) Apologies to the OP as this thread started off about annoying ads, & seems to have morphed due to my earlier post about "insurance ads" Sorry I really didn't mean to hijack your thread.
  21. I got a good morning chuckle out of that one... Thanks StanG!
  22. At Clive, Camos & Snyper Off topic a from the OP but..... Yeah! We own a 2000 Chevy Siverado, A 2004 Jeep Liberty (so both older vehicles) & Two bikes (a 2006 Vulcan & the 2009 RSTD) I really should let one of them go, I can only ride one at a time! Each vehicle has to be insured separately (ie no multi vehicle policies) Insurance costs (in round figures) $1000 per year for each vehicle for my wife & I to drive the two trucks & for me to ride the two bikes. Obviously with the bikes only one can be on the road at any one time (my wife does have a m.c licence but doesn`t drive the bikes) Our Health insurance (Medical Services Premium) costs us another $136 per month. It`s based on your income, once you go over a certain income (which is imo quite low) everyone pays the same. So I (on a pension) pay the same in Medical Premiums as does our Province`s Premier who earns $200k per year. As someone said quite a chunk of change, especially when it comes out of a fixed income pension.
  23. Sorry Guys, maybe I didn't explain it clearly.... my post wasn't about HEALTH INSURANCE it was about an ad that our Provincial Motor Insurer is putting out & about my motorcycle insurance. (i.e the amount I pay each year to be allowed to ride on our roads). & the $1000 is per year plus the $300 or so paid to a private insurer for collision & comprehensive, for my bike, nothing else, I never mentioned health care insurance.
  24. Back to TV ad's... Here in BC Canada we have what is effectively "government insurance" (actually a crown corp'n) that is required to tip up millions of $$$$ per year to the provincial government (of whatever colour or political persuasion) Over the next three fiscal years this is predicted to be in the region of $480 million of “excess optional capital”. We have no choice, our 3rd party insurance must be purchased from our Provincial Insurer at whatever extortionate rate they decide is appropriate. There is NO competition! Currently I pay around $1000 for my 3rd party mandatory insurance. In recent years we have been allowed to place our "optional" insurance (ie collision & comprehensive) with private companies & I pay another $300 for optional part (to an excellent private insurer). Here's the rub... we regularly see TV ad's telling us that our Provincial Insurance company will look after us & how they are our "friend" in the event of an accident. They are not. They are a business that exists solely to make a profit. Currently they are running an ad many times a night trying to convince us that they (& we) are being defrauded to the tune of millions of $$$$ per year. It shows a guy out mountain biking while his friend who's at work talks to him on the phone, & goes something like this:... Friend: Just wondering if you've recovered from your car crash yet? Bike Rider: Na! I'm currently at physio, the doc has given me another week. Friend: You do realize that you sent today's ride video to everyone! Rider: What do you mean - everyone? Friend: Everyone that thinks you were injured in that car crash, not cool man not cool! The ad then goes on to say how insurance fraud is costing us all millions $$$$$, & asking people to contact them is they are aware of anyone who may be defrauding them. The truth is, while I'm sure there are fraudulent claims made, everyone who claims in an accident is treated as a liar & a cheat from the word go & subjected to grossly invasive scrutiny by the Provincial insurance company. Every year insurance rates increase (they never decrease). The Insurance Company has to go before a commission to justify the increases. They were asked by the commission exactly how much of their business is subject to fraudulent claims. Their answer??? Their current system does not allow them to isolate or quantify claims that may be fraudulent, so one has to ask.... WTF is their current advert all about? & how much is being spent by this gov't run monopoly to persuade us that we're all liars & cheats. ps. sorry the post is so long
  25. We do get to ride over here Kevin... honest! As you say weather has been pretty damp lately, we do ride in the rain, (we're not total wimps) but do prefer to stay dry. I know you guys over in the "Republic of VI" are tough outdoorsy types I think our biggest problem here (in the Fraser Valley) isn't the weather it's the dreadful drivers, many of whom think bikes shouldn't be on the road. Gawd 'elp us if they ever legalize lane splitting here! We're considering moving to VI Nanaimo up to Campbell River. It may happen.... one day lol Take care & ride safe whichever bike you're on.
