  1. The other tip on that cover is that you MUST use a gasket. If you try to do it without the gasket using just a gasket maker the starter will not work, it NEEDS the gasket thickness for proper clearance of the starter gears. Then on the middle gear cover do not forget the copper washer on the bottom bolt or it will leak oil every time.
  2. I could be wrong, but I have never heard of a direct fit spin on oil filter for the 1st gens. Using an adapter is the only way I have ever heard of it being done. Designing and making a spin on adapter is on my list of someday projects.
  3. :sign yeah that: Hopefully he is just being kept busy shoveling the that has been falling on him................
  4. Welcome, careful these old bikes can be addictive......... Yes you will need a gasket to get to the clutch. Odds are that your clutch is fine, It is well documented that the clutch spring gets weak from old age, not from miles driven. When the spring gets weak the clutch starts to slip. The other common thing that will make a clutch slip is using the wrong oil. Any oil that contains friction reducers will make the clutch slip. I do not know about a CK2300 clutch as my original factory clutch is still just fine at 75K miles. My diaphragm spring was replaced with a better one at 40K.
  5. Are you asking just the shop bill or does that include all of the parts that you sourced and bought for the shop to install?
  6. Well they copied everything else on the hardley......................
  7. Feel free to swing by here for a visit on your way to wherever you may be headed. I may try my M&E in March again. Ya know, I did not make it up to deer camp in the U.P. this year due to my foot. Normally while up there I weld that Canadian back door shut using unobtainium welding rods. It usually takes them at least a few weeks to get it opened back up. It seems they now have that thing swung wide open already. Then there is my end, well sometimes I just can not resist an opportunity,,,,,,,,,,well most times I can not resist an opportunity. I could explode if I try to resist.
  8. The "updates" are loaded onto your computer hard drive while you are using the computer, they then install at power down and no longer need the internet to do their damage. If the computer is forced to shut down once the update has started, it can really foul things up. Back when micro brain was trying to shove win 10 down our throats, I had found a piece of software that prevented win 10 from getting a foot hold in my machine. I wonder if their is something similar to block the unwanted updates.
  9. Welcome back @Dano. Were you gone???? Did I rattle your cage when I pinged you in a thread? If so then I done a good deed for a change.
  10. The tools that I made were a lot stronger than the OEM tool. As far as I know I was the only person that ever broke one of the latest design of my tool. The one that I broke was broke on purpose to test what the failure mode was. At $50 a pop I only tested one to failure. If you use the tool incorrectly it can be broken easily as long as it is fully seated and aligned correctly it will not break. Regardless of which tool you use it is very important that you do NOT run the tool into the soft aluminum head. Crashing the tool into the head will do some difficult to repair damage. This was learned the hard way by a few members. At the moment I think I have one or two tools left in stock If someone wants one I will dig into the pile to see what I have left.
  11. I did not hear about a wheel recall, I did the tail light recall and they sent me a new set of tail lights at no charge. I'll have to look into the tire recall.
  12. Thank you all for your thoughts. it was still quite painful to walk in the house after work and not be greeted at the door............
  13. Even with the chicom gaskets I would think that you probably either rolled one or it slipped out of the groove and got pinched. No amount of sealer will help if you roll or pinch a gasket. I do not use sealer other than a few dabs of black RTV to help hold the gasket into the cover during install, install while still wet.
  14. Whats a garage???
  15. I have only had the doc call me one time in my life after a test, that was the time I got put on the short list for heart surgery to get things back working right. With all of the docs I see regularly now IF I ever did get a call, I would have to believe it and scramble my butt down there sweating the whole way. I guess the docs up here do not cry wolf. It is also a good clue as to the importance is just how soon they will get you in, when they called me they also got me in the same day because it truly was serious. I would be a lot less concerned if the doc says "I need to see you right away" and makes an appointment for more than a week out.
  16. When you put those bolts back in, clean the holes and the bolts so there is no oil or thread locker residue. Then install them with red Loctite, torque to spec, and stake them in place. If you are lucky they will not loosen up again. I had my start clutch replaced by @Dano to one that has 18 rollers instead of 3, so it should last forever. It is a bit more cost, but the savings will come in never having to do it again.
  17. Puc you do know that if you buy that to save for the little guy, it will be all worn out before he is 2 years old............
  18. The thing missing from the pics is the surface of the 72 tooth gear that the roller ride on. That surface must be perfectly smooth. If you can see vertical lines, even if you can not feel them, it is worn out and needs to be replaced. Also examine the rollers closely for vertical lines
  19. Our Molly has gone to hunt pheasants with Jesus.. Molly 2-28-17 - 12-9-17 We will miss her so very much.................. Molly as our new puppy. Mollys favorite pastime, taking a nap. Coming home from hunting, her other favorite pastime. She so hated to have her picture taken. A bit of the devil in those eyes.
  20. I heard that................... I was getting better at lofting stuff right over your house to get to other destinations to the south.
  21. I fully understand the safety aspects of these features. But the commercials on tv show them saving the bacon of an inattentive driver and to me the tv ads are saying that it is OK to not pay attention while driving cuz the car might save you from yourself. If there is one thing people do NOT need is to be told that is is now OK to not pay attention to driving. Self driving cars is a whole different discussion. Until I see how this technology handles a good Wisconsin blizzard, or some nice fresh black ice, or a curve with gravel on the road, or the ball that rolls out from between parked cars with the invisible kid in hot pursuit, or the various critters that can rump in front of you, just the thought of a self driving car scars me.
  22. What worries me with all this new computer intrusion into cars is the potential for hacking. All brands have something similar to On Star where the car can be accessed remotely. But now that cars have a fly by wire throttle, brakes, steering, and most all of the controls in the car, what is the possibility that it is not far off where hackers will create a car virus that when the car hits 60 mph the throttle goes wide open and the steering turns hard left and the brakes, shifter and power switch are disabled? ANY system that can be accessed, can be hacked. Hackers can and have already unlocked the doors and started the engine. Even though my truck is still fairly new (by my standards, its a 2011) I am thinking of getting a new one that does not yet have the ability for the computer to turn the steering wheel for me. The idea that the computer might think it knows better than me how to handle an approaching emergency absolutely terrifies me. The ditch, or moving into the oncoming lane might just be a much better option than what is coming at me head on with a closing speed of 120 MPH. I do know how to parallel park, I do not need the car to do it for me, I can also back up a trailer just fine all by myself. On the other hand I do like my creature comforts, I like my power seats windows and locks. Cruise control and the new radar cruise that can slow me down to match the speed of the car in front of me, I do have a size 14 foot that is made of lead.........a nice sound system is a must. It really irks me that the way some of these new features like automatic braking or lane assist are advertised to be able to save you wile you are doing something OTHER than driving the car. I only see these things as making people feel safe to be not paying attention and is in the not to distant future are going to get people killed.
  23. Somehow I have a sneaking suspicion that some stuff is getting deep in here.............
  24. I know nothing. Cuz I still can not view your vids in HTML-5. I guess that proves that I am INNOCENT.
  25. Welcome back you old Sillypuc you. You know we miss you. We were getting ready to send the troops out looking for you. I even started this thread just to see if I could rattle your cage and get enough and :stickpoke:and maybe even some to wake you up from hibernation. Looks like it worked. Glad you are getting better again. But I am getting bored around the house. And we do have this cold snap coming in............... Maybe time to see whats cooking out in the shed.
