  1. I think I found the issue, Yes the door is closed, BUT it is a screen door!!!! That would explain why all this nasty super cold air is blowing down from the north since Christmas. I guess I might just have to take a trip up to near the border to see what I can use to plug up the mesh in that screen.
  2. Also takes some of the starch out of the cold weather ride thread since this one started at -25 and snowing out.
  3. It is more normal for the exhaust to be tight, but certainly not unheard of for intake to be the tighter ones. Double check that you used the correct specs for the correct valves, intake and exhaust are different. I've seen it done. There is no telling how much effort was put into a previous valve check, did someone adjust all of the exhaust to the high limit and left the intakes alone at the low limit? No way to know now and that could also explain your somewhat unusual results. When I did my valves I set all of the valve to the upper limit so that it will not have to be done again in my life time of ownership. You said you were going to "pull the shims tomorrow" WARNING!!!! Do not turn the engine with any shim out of the bucket, things will snap into a bad position that is very difficult to recover from.
  4. You do know that there is no such thing as to cold to snow..................
  5. So now there are two of you that want a snomagedin............................
  6. I think this was already done with a $250 Venture that went from eastern Canada to Cancun Mexico in Feb - March. He ended up giving the bike to someone down there and flying home. Found it http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?119387-Canada-to-Cancun-on-the-250-Venture-The-full-ride-report
  7. I had to carry one in the back of a P/U once. I used my engine hoist to pick it up and set it in the bed and then loaded the hoist in the truck for the unloading at the destination. Very safe and uneventful. The hoist that I have is rated 4,000 lbs so the weight of a venture is no issue and it can break down or be assembled in just a few minutes. https://www.harborfreight.com/2-ton-capacity-foldable-shop-crane-69514.html
  8. If the intermittent issue comes back you may have to go the LED monitor route. Connect an LED to the Red/White wire at the TCI and another one to the Black/White wire at the TCI. That way at the moment that the engine is quitting the LEDs will tell you if that wire is causing the problem. The LED on the Black white wire is watching for a ground, so it will light if there is a problem. The LED on the Red white wire is watching power so it will turn off with a problem. You may end up needing more LEDs to monitor other wires in the system until you find the culprit
  9. I could sure use some of that global warming stuff they keep talking about. It has been to cold to go outside to play with my machines.......... So they have had to just sit there pointed in the same direction till it gets a bit warmer for these old bones to go out to play some more.......... I guess I will have to work on a remote control system so I can play from the comfort of my sofa............
  10. @Golf&Venture was making the tool for greasing the speedo bearing. I do not know if he is still got any available. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?65506-Anyone-have-a-broken-1st-Gen-MKII-speedometer-cable http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?67738-Only-3-left-Speedo-Bearing-Coupling-Grease-Tool
  11. If you go to make that ride wearing nothing but boots gloves and a helmet, you will have other things falling off.......................
  12. Sounds good to me. I got some coke to mix with my Southern Comphort and a cheap bottle of Asti Spumante for midnitght if I/we last that long. Butt what is with the inside out diaper???
  13. You have to go at least far enough to get the engine warmed up.................... A mile an a half to get a pic of you, your Venture and the Bank sign with temp would make it a good run.

  16. That aint real snow. Its just a dusting.
  17. So sorry to hear that. Sorry your best friend passed. Molly was my 2nd Springer and was the most mellow Springer I ever met. Springers are a bit more maintenance than a Lab with needing monthly haircuts and a lot more grooming after a run in the fields or woods. But they also have an energy level like no other dog. A Springer will make the energizer bunny look like a wimp. Your new puppy sure is cute..........
  18. My guess the fan bearings are toast. My bike has been ridden in the cold often with no issues.
  19. FWIW, every gremlin is a bit different. When I had a similar issue while trying to get home from Dons MD, I ended up finding 3 possible issues that could have each by themselves caused the intermittent dying. 1. broken kill switch. I scrounged a new one. 2. there are 2 black wires connected to the battery Negative post, one is the heavy one that goes to the engine block for the starter current, and the other one is smaller that goes to a 1 pin connector and then to frame ground. The one pin connector on mine had at some point in its life gotten doused in battery acid and was very corroded, I cut that out and made it a one piece wire from battery to frame. 3. In a connector in the dash the red/white wire, (same wire that goes to the kill switch) had a bad factory crimp to the terminal in the connector while I was wiggling wires this one simply fell out of the terminal. I soldered it back into the terminal. Any one of these could have been causing my issues so I have no idea which one fixed it. But I spent a month chasing wires around the bike to find them.
  20. I really hate to have to say this but your case is broken, the hinges are rusted solid and everything is wide open up there. It is plain that I am going to have to teach you the difference between open and closed, and then teach you which way is the correct way to have things at various times of the year. It is obvious that you seem to have forgotten.
  21. I have to agree that someone sure don't know the difference between open and closed. Cuz "Baby its cold outside.........":whistling: Hey Ben, Your door is WIDE open and swinging to make more wind. Trust us on this one. Durn kids always leavin the darn door open all the time........
  22. See now if you don't believe that I adjusted north and east just take a look at Erie PA................. You just got a bit of over spray.......................
  23. Are you sure that you know the difference between open and closed??? We did not even make it up to 0°F today..... Do I need to make another trip up there to show you what CLOSED means??????
  24. There is only one of me, I can not get everyone all at once in the first week of winter. Give me time, you will get whats coming to you.
  25. I was not aiming for the south, Up in the sensible northern half of the country we know how to deal with flakes. We like a White Christmas. If I aimed south it would ruin everyone's Christmas when they rolled up the streets and sidewalks and the whole world came to a screeching halt. But once the festivities are over...........................
