  1. Guilty as charged! I suppose the slave was leaking and I didn't check the fluid often enough. That was the first bike I've owned that had a hydraulically actuated clutch.
  2. Less likely, but the fuel pump contacts are a potential issue with these bikes.
  3. I rode a 2004 Concours about 660lbs with no clutch disengagement. There was enough of an incline at work that I was able to get it rolling in neutral and put it in first to get started. And traffic allowed me to roll through the 4 stop signs on the way home from work. But, I would not attempt it on the Venture I don't think. Motorcycle transmissions are synchronized so well that shifting with the clutch engaged is easy. Yeah, it was stupid of me to do it.
  4. I read today that some news crews were able to get out of Wilmington by driving north to Jacksonville and then to Goldsboro and Raleigh in order to drive back to Atlanta. That's a long way out of the way. Maybe the grocery stores and gas stations will be able to re-stock soon.
  5. I've heard about those mosquitoes that are so large they can mate with a turkey-------flatfooted.
  6. Re-started my walk around the subdivision today and I saw lots of blown down trees and fences. For a Cat 1 storm, this one did lots of damage. And we were the lucky ones with minimal flooding. I think Wilmington is still isolated with flooded/closed roads. I don't know how many times over the years, I've been told that pine trees have a big tap root that goes straight down. BS I looked at the blown down pine trees and they don't have a tap root.
  7. This is what I used to clean out the holes in the jets and emulsion tubes. I just try to careful not to damage the jets. https://www.ebay.com/itm/13-Welding-Tip-Cleaner-with-Stainless-Steel-Reamers-4-Welder-Soldering/311413289559?hash=item4881adb257:g:e~IAAOSwhCBbV8BK
  8. Yeah, I'm sure those line crews are not paid what they are worth especially when they work during a storm.
  9. You can probably get it cheap! Why not!
  10. It looks good, but it does have 134k miles on it and it's 22 yrs old. What would you do with it?
  11. I'm technically just outside the city limits, but I'm no more than about 7 miles from downtown Wilmington. The city has priority due to the number of residents and the need to get the stop lights working again I suppose. Yeah, if you live in the country, it could be a couple of weeks before power is restored based on past history.
  12. Well, this morning at about 10.00am, the power came on after being off for 29 hours. God Bless those Line Crews who get out in this weather and repair the fallen lines. We are really dependent on electrical power for almost everything.
  13. The strongest winds 98mph with gusts to 115mph passed my home about 6:00 am this morning taking out the power. Then the eye passed over giving me the opportunity to go outside and check for damage. The damage was minimal. It sucked open my utility shed doors and one gate. A small pine is leaning against a bigger tree and it will have to come down. It was scary at its peak with the house shaking. But in the 25 years I’ve owned this house many hurricane eyes have passed over I have a generator to keep the refrigerator cold and supply a few lights and phone charging. Not so bad I suppose. 14. Not too bad in Wilmington so far with light rain and light winds. Really happy it dropped to a cat 2. The eye should pass over early morning.
  15. Hey, ride what you want to, not what others think you should. Those wings are very popular judging by the selling prices.
  16. If the old one doesn't have any pitting inside the cylinder, it should be rebuildable. But, the standard advice on this forum is to buy new. If a rebuild is done, any honing or sanding of the cylinder walls should be around and around, not back and forth to prevent the new seal from leaking.
  17. Well, my windows are boarded up. I was fortunate in that I was able to get a handy man I know to help with the upstairs windows. I would never have been able to do it by myself. It is also something I will never do again. I'm 74 and I'm too old for this s--t! I haven't been so tired in years! Cat 3 now and is getting close.
  18. I remember a friend who was the operations manager at a nuclear power plant who said sometimes he was a hero and sometimes a zero. He always did his best but it stressed him a lot. He was being groomed for higher positions until he decided to quit and become a school teacher. And of course as a teacher he coached a high school computer team that won a national contest! You just can't keep cream from rising to the top.
  19. I have had a 2000 f150 5.4 and now have a 2002 F150 5.4 and have read about the gasket issue on the forums. All of the engines in the 97 to 03 F150s are very durable with the exceptions of the gasket issue of the 4.2 in the first two years and the spark plug blowout that could happen with the V8s if the plugs aren't torqued enough. I loved my 00 F150SupercabXLT4x4 for 105k miles and still love my 02 F150 Supercab Lariat FX4 with 151k miles.
  20. I plan on riding it out. I bought a generator and plywood to board up the windows and hopefully everything will be okay. If it does look like it's coming in at cat 5 though, I will be looking for a rapid departure if possible.
  21. Doesn't sound like Don wants to do that!
  22. Yeah, I'm in Wilmington, NC, the bullseye and I'm watching with particular interest.
  23. Does the hitch installation void the engine/drive train warranty?
  24. If it starts fine without the choke, it is probably set up too rich.
