  1. 2016 Tundra SR5, double cab, 5.7 V8, 4 WD, tow package. Absolutely love it. Only thing that is not great about it is the factory trailer brake controller, but even that hasn't bothered me enough to replace it. Overall gas mileage after 25000 miles is 16.1 mpg. That includes every mile of use, loaded, unloaded, towing, etc.If I was worried about gas mileage I wouldn't buy a truck. The 1794 is a beautiful truck, enjoy!
  2. Anyone else notice the beautiful machine in the Shinko 777 ad on the back cover of the November Rider magazine?

    Traded

Well, after some scammers, no shows, low ballers, a buyer who couldn't come up with the cash to honor our deal and waiting a week for a buyer who decided to change his mind, I traded my 2013 Royal Star Venture S in on an ATV. I didn't really want to trade it, but I absolutely hate selling things. The trade-in process took less than an hour. They made an offer, I countered and then we met in the middle. Tomorrow I pick up a new 2018 Polaris 450 HO EPS. I also purchased a Polaris winch and snowplow for it. Thanks for the education on the RSV that I got here, the entertainment and the camaraderie. I have ridden motorcycles for 40+ years and the RSV was the best of the best. If I were going to have a street bike, that would be the one. I did look at the new Venture in the dealership, I really like the front of the fairing on that machine and the large trunk, but even with after five years ownership, I still like the RSV more. The new Venture looked massive sitting there next to a Bolt. LOL I was tempted to sit on it, but like an addict who knows better, I didn't. I'll lurk around some to see what's happening and how the new Venture fairs in the real world. Stay safe out there! P.S. Can anyone recommend a good ATV forum? Oldodge / Tim
  4. Old thread I know, but I found it while trying to sync my carbs with my SyncPro which is always a pain in the butt. When I bought the SyncPro, five years aga, my thoughts were to build a manometer, but no, I decided to buy the "right" tool for the job. Big mistake, I have struggled endlessly with this thing, won't repeat calibration, air separation in the blue fluid and a very busy fluid level. Every time I finished a sync I wondered why I bothered because I had no faith in what I did. Today I set it up, reluctantly, and it kept sucking air into the tubes. I guess the o-rings aren't sealing on the needle valves anymore. That's it, last straw, I have had it. I made a simple manometer, pic below. I used the hoses from the SyncPro with the orifices in them, a meter stick, some clear tubing and some tye-wraps. Filled it with water containing red food coloring. This thing works like a charm. Steady as a rock and easy to see/read. I did the left side carbs, then the right side carbs and then the rear left and front right to balance sides. Just for kicks I checked the left side and right side again and they were still right on. I just adjusted until the fluid quit changing elevation side to side. Even rechecking both sides it was much quicker and easier than ever before. If I had some tee's I could make up a four carb unit but I probably won't, I like the simplicity of this one.
  5. I shot both indoors and outdoors back in the 1980's. Had a blast, went from freestyle class to unlimited class very early on so I could use a release. I was the worst fingers shooter ever I think. I still have my, and my better half's, stuff. I started out with a Jennings T-Star and then moved on to Martin bows. I still have a Martin Cougar target bow and a Martin Bobcat hunting bow, but I haven't shot either in many years. I was never as good as my equipment, but I did ok. I won a regional once, as a "C Freestyle" shooter, nothing to be too proud of, but it was my first year and it got me hooked. Spent many a winter evening shooting indoor leagues and a lot of Summer Sundays shooting at various club outdoor shoots. Like everything else, life got in the way and it fell by the wayside. I continued to hunt with a bow until I quit hunting in 1990. Bow season was my favorite of all the seasons.
  6. Gray/Black 2013 is definitely the coolest, plus it is the last of the legends. I know of one for sale in Pennsylvania, but that is a long way from Alberta Canada.
  7. Terrible news indeed. Our prayers are with his friends and family.
  8. I have a '16 Tundra SR5 double cab 4X4. Love it as a tow vehicle for my camper. Very comfortable for me. I looked at GM, Ford, Ram and Toyota. Tow ratings on the 5.3 GM's the dealers had in stock were a deal killer for me. I couldn't find the larger GM engine in stock locally in a truck I could afford. Test drove the other three and dropped the Ram because my wife didn't like the "hump" in the floor for the PTO on trucks that are so equipped. That left the F150 and the Tundra. The F150 EcoBoost had it all over the Tundra in options and conveniences, but I was sold on the more old school Tundra and it's towing package. With a 5.7 engine, six speed auto, 4.30 rear gear, aux coolers, limited slip, etc.. Gas mileage is not as good as any of the others, but for me it isn't a daily driver. If you want bells and whistles that are only available on the top of the line Tundra you are have to pay a big premium for the Toyota. I only looked briefly at the Nissan, didn't drive one because the dealership I visited left a bad first impression and I wouldn't have bought a wheelbarrow from them. I am weird that way. Bottom line is I liked the Toyota, F150 and Ram. Wife didn't like the Ram. Properly equipped I think all three would have worked for me. The Toyota Tundra just "fit" both me and my needs. Have fun shopping!
  9. @BIG TOM I put in a good word for you yesterday with the "Big Guy" himself! No one need worry, if I couldn't say something nice, I said nothing at all.
  10. I got a short ride in today. Not bad for December second in central PA
  11. All this piston speed, versus stroke length, versus load weight, is what drives guys to play with their Wankel! Sorry..... I will kick myself now
  12. @Flyinfool , I just want to know where that ohm symbol is from. Is it hidden on the keyboard?????????? Inquiring (twisted) minds want to know.
  13. Rode to work and back yesterday and then changed the front tire. Old one just wore to the wear bars. Dunlop E3 with 18,850 miles off and a new Dunlop E3 on in its place. Now at 30,500 miles and thinking about valve clearance check/adjustments. May be a winter project.
  14. I have read a lot about the new Venture. Some good, some bad. I will throw this out there as my .02 cents. So far, from what I see, I like it. I like the style, forgive me, but I like the twin cylinder engine too. I like twin cylinder engines, boxers, v-twins, vertical twins, you name it, I like it. But I own a V-four, why? Price, Yamaha couldn't sell the 2nd Gen in my area for anywhere near full MSRP and they were greatly discounted when I bought my 2013 new. I looked at new 2011 and 2012 Venture's as left overs at the same time. My first choice was a Victory Vision, but that damn price on a 2nd Gen, with a five year, unlimited mileage, warranty was too good to ignore, and it was a Yamaha, and I have always liked my Yammies. One test drive on a 2nd Gen and I was hooked, smooth, powerful, comfortable and affordable. It is a big heavy motorcycle, I wanted a big heavy motorcycle. If weight were a driving issue I wouldn't buy any full sized touring bike. I am not disappointed by the new Venture at all. I am actually excited about it, but I won't buy one, not if I have to pay anywhere near MSRP anyway. There are some idiosyncrasies about my second gen that drive me nuts, there have been some on every bike I have ever owned. No one machine gives me everything I want in a perfect package. I came to that conclusion years ago. When the 1st gen was new it didn't seem to sell well around here either, but I wanted one, just couldn't afford it, even at greatly reduced prices. Why haven't Ventures sold well here? I think it is because when you start asking that kind of money for a motorcycle, the casual rider thinks "premium brands" like Harley, Indian, BMW, etc are now compatible price ways, so I may as well impress my buddies with one of them. The Gold Wing is a bit of an anomaly due to its widespread reputation as the "best touring bike" on the market. Many have asked me, why not a Wing if you want a tourer? Simple, not my style and too expensive. knowing what I know now, 30K miles later, would I buy another second gen? Probably not now, because I would be considering buying the third gen if a test ride proved it to be what I think it is, and the price were deeply discounted. Not a knock on the second gen at all, great bike, but time marches on, change is inevitable, and I have "been there, done that". I hope Star/Yamaha sell the new Venture like ice on a hot day, but I think in reality they will get about the same market share as the older Venture's, no fault of the bike, mainly due to brand loyalty and the premium price for a perceived standard brand. Long winded .02 cents, but I like getting my money's worth.
  15. Glad it worked out well. People do some dumb stuff.
  16. Lots of old cars, a walking dragline and some odd manlifts. But, this is my favorite, fluid drive, three in the tree, flathead.
  17. My wife is my best friend. She doesn't ride anymore. I would be thrilled with that evening. Quality time, well spent in my opinion. I too, would prefer a long ride, but that sounds like a nice way to end your day. Trick or treat!
  18. I swear mine runs much smoother and feels much more responsive with the new fuel pump. I felt I had a performance issue before the pump failed, but I just couldn't be sure.

    fuel pump

I just had mine replaced on my 2013 RSV (28K miles) under warranty. I am considering a switch to the Facet solid state unit. I would not have replaced the original with an OEM if weren't under warranty. A part that is known to have a high failure rate just begs for a good old American backyard engineered solution in my mind. Some call it gerry rigging, but I call it improving. Different strokes for different folks.
  20. New pump and filter installed today. Took almost 3 weeks for dealer to get the pump. Running great again.
