  1. Been thinking some similar thoughts for many moon brother!! Matter of fact, so much so that I have been digging up some memories of my love for WW2 history and thoughts of how similar some of this virus may be,, you know that old saying = those who refuse to learn from history are prone to repeat it? Anyway,, did some diggin and found was I was looking for (was inspirational for me, please dont take it personal if you are one offended by these):
  2. Must of been a different day and age to when I was a young and growing up learner... When someone wrote something naughty on the chalk board back then, the Teacher/Mod never asked permission from the kids to remove it,, he/she just gave a shake of the head and removed it.. Sometimes that action was followed by a wacko with a board with holes drilled in it too (always fun to watch a buddy get the stick but never fun the other way around ). LOVE YOU TWO !! Still rather have my job () than yours () but I totally respect your decisions on anything and everything I write,, past - present and future = no questions asked,, nothing personal taken:bighug:!!
  3. You are more than welcome brother.. Being it was your thread that I side tracked/:hijacked: I owe you a double apology my friend,, that apology is extented Zag!!

    My 1200

:sign yeah that::sign yeah that::sign yeah that:Best of the best advice so far IMHO! So on my MK1's I have experienced some pretty strange noises too.. Some I figured out and repaired, some I left and just rode er down to +250k miles just to see how much what ever was rattling could take.. I had what sounded like a bearing rattle related to the clutch on one once that ended up being the forward bevel gear bearing.. When that would rattle it would do so while the bike was sitting on the side stand idling but when I lifted the bike upright it would stop.. At first I thought it was quieting when I pulled the clutch in because, by learned behavior, when picking the bike up off the side stand I always pull the clutch in,, dorky I know but force of habit after having a bike take off on you when you bump the shifter while leaning the bike up can sure change a kids outlook of proper bike handling.. Anyway,, after a little toying around with it, I discovered the bearing noise to be a worn bearing = pull the forward bevel gear cover that you would pull to access the clutch slave = bearing under cover = I replaced that and it quieted right down.. This was an extremely high mileage bike - believe it had +175k when bearing failed. On another one of my MK1's,, one that actually passed the 300k mark got real noisy at the end of its life.. This noise was similar to my clutch basket rattle,, quieted some with clutch pull and everything.. Get this,,, that one ended up being crank bearings!! Seemed, at least to my untrained ear, pulling in the clutch put enough pressure on the bottom end to actually quiet the loose crank bearings.. Weird eh? I discovered this noise while crossing Nevada coming home from CTFW along the west coast.. The bike made if home fine and never grenaded but it became a parts bike at journeys end.. On another one of my MK1's,, I did end up with clutch basket rattle that totally cleared up when pulling in the clutch,, noisy as heck = squeeze the clutch = quiet as a mouse eating cheese.. Found out the bushing in the clutch hub was out of spec,, grabbed one from a parts bike (MK1 I had retired), and bingo,, lots quieter.. *** having owned/ridden numerous non-unit scoots thru the years including my personal rider 78 Low Rider Shovel that I had converted to dry clutch and ridden several times across the desert regions vs all the unit bikes I have owned and ridden including my MK1's, in my case, I choose to stay with dino oils and change them when the oil darkens on my unit bikes.. The reason for this is that,IMHO, fiber plates tend to contaminate the tranny/clutch oil and on unit bikes that share that oil with the engine those contaminates can create engine bearing issues,, IMHO of course.. On the MK1 V-4's it is fairly easy to determine oil change intervals,, a quick glance at the little window - dark = stop at walmart or auto parts store and swap in new oil.. Sometimes 3k miles,, sometimes less..
  6. Sorry Boss,, my bad.. You know me, my love for the debate platform can easily get the best of me.. My apologies to both you and the Club.. THANK YOU for your extended level of tolerance Don = it is greatly appreciated!
  7. Outstanding EC = do the car show do you? Thanks again for your service,, speaking of that, did you know about our clubs Honor Badges for those who have served?? Just asking cause I would hate for any of our service men/women to miss the opportunity to display that which they have earned.. @Freebird,, I am still on the understanding that service folks like EC have to request their own Honor Badge? EC,, I would do it for you but I dont think I can.. If your interested and just missed it - the Badges are available under "AWARDS" on the line above next to "History".. On another note,, I gotta ask again,, you being a Sub man if mem serves? Do you know Doug Blakemore from Evart?? Never know till one asks.. Pc
  8. I have ran the MK1's with 2 brush starters for many years and, between 6 of them since 87 have managed to chase them out to +1 million miles (lot of great mems).. I have never swapped in a 4 brush but have encountered the weak starter syndrome many times.. There have been a couple of instances of cable issues and battery issues that have caused starter strain but predominately, on my bikes, the issue of starter contamination on the armature has been the guilty culpret.. I did have to replace bearings in a starter once on one but that was just one time.. All the rest of the cures came down to a simple cleaning of the inside of the starter, paying careful attention to the amature and grunge filled area's thereof.. Cleaned well, it always amazed how close to as a brand new starter they would start when that amp stealing grunge was gone.. All IMHO of course...
  9. :scared:ABSOLUTELY, ENDLESSLY GORGEOUS YA LOP EARED VENTURE RIPPING VARMINT!!! :thumbsup:JUST GORGEOUS!! ALMOST AS PURDY AS THE 30 DOLLAR FOR 20 YEARS HISTORIC PLATES I ALWAYS RUN ON MY 1ST GENS:256:
  10. Well there ya have it,, more to chew on Patch.. Notice I didnt mention any of your own politics/politicians in the above thoughts? I am sure there I many many other countries leaders involved in all this globalist/socialist movement stuff besides those of my own countrymen.. I have a hard enough time comprehending my own countrymen and women who entertain selling out and giving up America's way of life that the boys on places like the beaches of Normandy fought so hard to maintain.. I will leave your thoughts and considerations concerning your own countries movements toward or away from the endeavor for Freedom of which I hope you seek..
  11. @Freebird, wonder if nancy would make something in this line? typing remotley so cant look her up. lady does really nice work!
  12. Here on the other side of the pond you would stopped by the State Police and ticketed and returned home if you tried to go to the dump - they are now in total enforcement mode. We are allowed outside for walks but cannot drive to walking area's or use our cars/motor vehicles for anything other absolute essential things like going for food, pot or booze. Even boats with gas engines on them are now locked down. Hopefully, and very soon, a definite discovery of who is vulnerable to death caused by this virus will be announced. Then those most vulnerable can take personal responsibilty for their own health/well being and self quarintine and all the rest can go back to work if they choose.. I personally dont care much whether the CCP did it in a lab or by accident,, their lies and response to the Pandemic are war crimes IMHO and should be handled as such.. As should the varmints responsible for supporting/empowering the CCP for decades.. The "NWO" and their push toward Globalism should be addressed in the same trials,, IMHO of course..
  13. Thanks for encouraging me to remember what the big picture in this virus stuff is all about my friend!!
  14. ,,,
  15. I get that brother,, I was just explaining my perspective of how/why things are the way they are in the States these days in a little more detail similar to what you did with your response to my original post... Also, I was only referring to you being Canadian with Canadian historic understanding and myself as an American with an American citizen understanding as far as my outsider looking in comment.. DEFINITELY NOT AN OUTSIDER LOOKING IN CONCERNING VR, hope that comment didnt sound that way!! Personally I love you and your culture and its many differences to that of my own existence here in the U.S.A. As an outsider looking into the way your countries parlimentary rule functions I am dumber than a duck.. Still though, I have ALWAYS enjoyed many friendships with my Canuckian brothers and certainly do not consider them any less of my friends because their way of life is different to that of my own, common respect.. Make sense?
  16. HE HAS RISEN,, HE HAS RISEN INDEED!! :dancefool:
  17. :thumbsup:OUTSTANDING FRANK!! GOOD JOB BROTHER!! Thank you for the update,, so many times subjects like this come up, discussions insue and than outcomes just slip away.. You are welcome and THANK YOU for not being one of those:missingtooth: Only other suggestion I might make would be to double/quadrupal check that carb for any leakage.. It only takes a few drops of gas in the bottom of the ship to muster up a big boom boom.. Beyond that,, let er rip my friend!! Oh yeah,, also dont forget to keep an eye on the water cooling pee stream,, make sure that impellar is functioning.. Sieze the day not the motor.. Oh wait,, its 4 stroke,, probably air cooled.. Oh well, I'll leave this edit intact incase its not
  18. Thanks and hats off to you for jumping in to help Patch.. I know what you mean about doing whats gotta be done regardless.. Back when the HIV days were heating up I came upon on accident while out biking, got pretty bloody as I was the first one there.. When the police arrived they offered me some rubber gloves and a face shield but I declined and asked about some hand cleaner.. The officers scolded me for not taking precautions but thanked me for the early assist.. Kind of a double edged sword IMHO but aint no way on Gods green earth I could just stand there and not help someone in need,, guess I am made like you brother.. SPECIAL DOUBLE DOUBLE TRIPLE HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR 1ST RESPONDERS DURING THESE DAYS.. YOU FOLKS ARE HERO'S IN MY EYES!!
  19. @ecbaatz,,, we got to chatting last night about the Silversides sub here in town and I think you mentioned your Navy years being spent on a Sub? It just dawned on me that while being Admin up at Baker College in Cadillac for a couple years, I befriended one of our Profs. His name is/was Doug Blakemore. Super nice guy, retired Navy man.. His time was spent on a Sub too. Any chance you might know Doug?
  20. ,, you ripping that back up again?
  21. You two have my/our deepest prayers my brother in the Lord. Please take care of her brother, double duty at this particular time. Also PLEASE take double good care of yourself my friend. We will be praying that the test comes back negative and she is just maybe a little tired from working so hard doing her part in saving others.. Keep the faith, lean on God and trust/know that endless Prayers Up on her/your behalf are happening!! Love you both Puc
  22. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW,, thats like 1400 bucks Americanized money.. This keeps up, a varmint out to be able to pick up a decent MK1 for under a hundred dollars
  23. Think I would just clean it up real well and touch any compromised solder area with my soldering iron to reset the solder.. Not adding solder, just touch it so goes fluid for a second and let it cool to reset.. If memory serves correctly, it seems like there are a couple diodes that like to fail on these boards and others have replaced.. Maybe do some research/forum searching cause I am sure there are complete and exhaustive instructions of such.. I know the components are on the other side of that board.. Maybe pulling those four screws to release the board to get to them.. Pain in the neck when they fail eh.. And people that know me have the nerve to ask why I miss points ignition so much
  24. Your more than welcome brother, hope it all works out and you end up slaying all kinds of fish out there playing with that Yammie boat engine.. Let us know how it comes out.. If it dont work and it was mine,, long before I shelled out 400 bucks for a new one I would probably do a little research on the specs to make sure it would fit and be thinking along this line: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Craftsman-247-88790-24788790-9-Horse-Power-now-Blower-carburetor-carb/223272117076?hash=item33fc0e2354:g:bQYAAOSwH8VeAaEX https://www.ebay.com/itm/Carburetor-Carb-Kit-For-kohler-8hp-on-a-Troy-Bilt-wheel-horse-tiller-Engine/153866645162?hash=item23d32aaeaa:g:SeYAAOSwHfZdPlKg https://www.ebay.com/itm/CARBURETOR-FOR-TROY-BILT-CHIPPER-VAC-47279-47261-65582V-SHREDDER-HORSE-TILLERS/143320921013?hash=item215e97b3b5:g:KpoAAOSwYNVdIDbB When all fails, my favorite saying is: its always something Puc
  25. Shalom my friend.. From a totally back yard mechanics brain who has never owned an RSV but who has fired a few shots on the MK1's so take this with a grain of salt, couple things come to mind. First would be air in the hydraulics.. If it were mine I would carefully bleed off the slave a little with a piece of clear tubing attached to the bleed nipple and the clear line draped over the seat so I could watch the fluid inside the line for air bubbles and I would be assured I was getting no air back into the slave as I was bleeding.. Next step, and even maybe more importantly IMHO, is I would turn the bars to the right to bring the master res as level as possible, I would stuff rags around and under the bango bolt at the master and carefully bleed from that joint.. It takes a little finess to do this but it does not take much bleeding there to remove air from that spot. Tiny little air bubbles like to gather there on my MK1's and those tiny bubbles, even one, can be just enough to cause compression of the fluid enough to mess up the travel on the slave piston resulting in incomplete pressure plate travel.. Does that make sense? Next would be possible notching of the plate ears where they contact the clutch basket and/or "sawtoothing" on the basket flanges themselves.. This is very common on dirt bikes where clutches are used a lot while track/dirt riding.. I have encountered such on my worn out, beat up old 1st Gens too but I suspect this not to be the case on your scoot as I suspect you are not riding a beat up old bike with 200,000 plus miles on it.. I suppose running to heavy of oil or very cold oil could do something similar.. It would probably not be impossible for thick/heavy oil to be thick enough for a crawl to ensue upon initial disengagement.. Does it do this when warmed up? Did it just start doing this or been doing it for ever? Recently change your oil?
