  1. Personnally,, I ALWAYS thought those early, outlawed by those who seek to protect me from me, three wheelers had wayyyyy more personality than quads ever dreamed of and were a LOT more fun!! That joy found in them followed me way into geezerdom.. When finished with the one in the vid,, I spent hours tossing donuts in the field and riding it on two wheels just like the good old days... Talk about fun!!
  2. A 4th grade teacher hiding in the closet with his day planner pulled over his head is destined to be owned by a 9 year old classroom bully
  3. See,, miracles really do happen!!
  4. Miracles happen in the strangest of places,, and usually those strange places seem to end up involving either Dumpster Diving or others peoples trash when my miracles happen.. I guess its a flaw in my already flawed character but when I see something like this sitting on the side of the road and headed for the land fill, well,, lets just say both Tippy and Tweeks know whats gonna happen next LOL.. Cant wait to see if it runs!!!!!
  5. We were going by our local Harley shop and noticed this talented rider playing on his Sportster! The adventures of Spring in Michigan now that some of our CCP Virus lockdown rules have been relaxed are just getting started.. This sure brought back some fine memories for me of days long gone by, including the tumble at the end... Fact is,, if your going to enjoy the thrills of developing skills like this young man is enjoying,, you gotta learn to also somewhat enjoy the spills that come with them.. Just another day in the saddle of a bike!
  6. So thrilled with my B-Day present from our Governor that the 1st time I posted this I stuck it in the Tech forum!! Of course,, that may have had something to do with my age too
  7. Hi J and !! and CONGRATS on the ""new"" scoot!! If it were mine, before I headed off to parts unknown - looking for adVenture out in the great desert regions and beyond,, I would drop a set of sync gauges on it,, even if the gauges show nothing exciting (like sticky carbs slides or the like) = IMHO, these V-4's love to be in sync,, helps power - fuel economy and all that.. Worth a check IMHO.. I would also lift it up, engage the brakes front and rear while giving the wheels a spin and then check and make sure the pads/calipers are disengaging properly.. I have found that cleaning the caliper pistons when ever I have a wheel off for tire change or what ever keeps the brakes operating properly.. I also would have (hope you did?) greased the pins and splines during the rear tire swap.. Its probably not an emergency status in your case cause, at 11k miles, your 07 is just about broke in from new BUT,, next tire swap,, might not be a bad idea.. Also,, I think if it were mine,, having sat for a while,, I would take a pen light and a mirror and take a peek at the fuel tank interior = rust is not your friend in that location.. Dont be fooled into thinking you can win the rusty tank battle with fuel filters (IMHO of course).. If its rusty,, coat it.. Murphy LOVES rusty tanks and clogging carbs with the rust there from at the most incredible times.. Puc
  8. I for one would LOVE to see a pic of what you guys are talking of.. For the life me,, I just cant quite pull it from my bike invested memory bank.. Something only allowed off shore of the U.S. maybe? Besides three wheelers like the ones the regulators outlawed back in the late 80's (Honda 350/200x, Yam 250 Tri Z and on and on and so forth and so on) the only thing that comes to mind are the Honda moped line of the Gyro's (had a few,, neat little mopeds) but they were definitely not a dirt bike... Come on ya lop eared sea loving varmint Sailor = give!!!
  9. Using a soldering iron such as this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/COMBO-60w-Soldering-Iron-Gun-1pc-15g-Tube-60-40-Tin-Lead-Solder-Wire-Home-Shop/202465966978?hash=item2f23e97b82:g:soUAAOSwyA1dl-hF and NOT a soldering gun such as this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-CRAFTSMAN-MODEL-146-5378-SOLDERING-IRON-GUN-120V-2-Amps-60-Cyc/303544990074?epid=1325177116&hash=item46acb0f97a:g:uWYAAOSwWPtem7na I would start out by making sure the pencil tip of the iron was "tinned" real good and had a small drip of solder remaining on its dip as I approached the to be soldered connection. I would then touch the area that you show in the pic right between the wire and the contact point on the device and leave the iron there until I saw the old solder on the pieces go fluid. Then I would remove the iron and blow on the refreshed solder job.. I would also support the wire with a pair of tweezers as I soldered with the other hand just to keep it from popping away during the process..
  10. You are more than welcome brother,, I call em as I see em and obviously,, you and I call em and see em very closely from the same perspective :biker:
  11. No ya lop eared chopper riding varmint,, that would be my water supply!! My xtra gas is located just to the left of that water jug and, as I mentioned,, it is tie wrapped to the undercarriage of my tent rack!! Both extremely useful for one who loves and rides the desert regions IMHO.. I do suggest strongly that one never get the two mixed up when desperation sets in for one reason or the another Zag.. I like carrying "throw away" containers for each cause I can easily and affordably just give a stranded motorist (I help cagers and bikers alike) my supply of either in a crunch and refill my supply very easily.. Speaking of that water jug hanging on Tweeks side,, I have been teased a lot about that,, usually the joke turns on the teaser when I ask how much time they have spent CTFW in those awesome desert temps.. Usually a reminder that water is more valuable than gold in the desert, especially if you have none,, usually changes the direction of the conversation LOL:big-grin-emoticon:
  12. Personally, I think all folks who live in the land of the free and are citizens of this great countries Constitutional Republic should be required to be self employed for at least 5 years before going to work for someone else.. A good dose of working 24/7 to become self supportive and learning the in's and out's of dealing with Government over reach would be a true eye opener for a lot of people IMHO.. Of course,, doing so would also promote self esteem/self confidence, make for a more useful employees and probably end up producing some very ardent patriotic American characters in the process,,, such as my friend Jack
  13. AWESOME VAZ!!!! You would go to prison if you tried that in Michigan right now but during normal times, our State and Federal Lands are wide open to free camping 24/7,, just pull off the roadway and/or onto a two track and have at it!! Love seeing Arizona being the same!!
  14. ,, oppss
  15. I never really personally cared much for using starting fluid on gas engines (great on diesel though IMHO) cause it tends to dry out cylinder walls and I never really cared for its combustion abilities under the lower combustion ratios,, definitely another IMHO on my part though.. I would try starting it by getting some raw fuel into the combustion chambers.. I would start by taking a syringe with a hose attached to it (small syringe like Diabetics use for injections,, also available at feed for animal use - I have both large "horse" syringes and the small ones. I use the large syringes for cleaning carbs thru the drain ports - you could use one of these but you have to be careful not to over do the combustion chamber fill so maybe stick with the smaller syringe first). Attach a couple feet of clear line onto syringe nose, fill syringe by sucking fuel from gas can, put hose into plug hole, inject 2ml of gas into each plug hole replacing plugs as you go.. Make sure your plugs at gapped at .030 (low side of spec) and use new plugs.. Open throttle, leave choke open too.. See if it will start and burn off the raw fuel.. Another method,, maybe easier but be careful with this one.. Fill an empty glass cleaner bottle with gas.. Squirt four of fives streams of raw fuel directly into carb throats in air box.. I like this cause its easier but one backfire can cause major problems so ya gotta be careful with this one..
  16. Yeppers my sweet brother,, I is listening!!!! Only dont look to me advice cause I am still doing my faithful old "plastic oil quart filled with gas, stuffed in sock and tie wrapped to the underside of my tent rack routine.. Look closely under Tweeks flag, just to the left of my water bottle in pic.. You are definitely on your own on this one ya lop eared bike loven varmint biker brother of mine!!
  17. I get it,,, I really do Fool... Bottom line,,, I think I tend to live in a world of Applied Mathematics where you prefer pure logic.. Sort of a Kirk/Spock relationship
  18. EXACTLY,, THATS IT BP !!! A very telling video to say the least, IMHO of course!! BP,, thank you for the find = I knew someone like you would have noticed this Beemer/Wing comparo' and know where it was!! @Flyinfool, go to 19:38 into this vid,, those YEEEEEHAWWWWWW's and multigear wheelies are the result of a couple of fun lovers discovering the magic at 5252 and above
  19. From a mathematicians stand point I can somewhat see where one may get that impression but from an end use consumer/dyno tuning mechanics perspective that may not be entirely true.. If what you are promoting were rock solid, it would seem that all dyno graphs would show, especially above the magic 5252 R range where HP and Torque curves always cross and where HP always becomes greater than Torque, the HP curve as a perfectly straight mathematical line.. Unfortunately, this is not the case.. As a matter of fact, dyno techs use the dips and valleys shown in the dyno curves (both torque below 5252 and HP above 5252) on a tune in process to work out.. Its the irregularities in the these non-mathamatical fluctuations in the curves that a good mechanic tunes out = smoothing out and creating a lenier pull hopefully.. From an end use consumer/riders perspective, crossing into HP heaven (at 5225) on a properly tuned, good running scoot will usually result in a "kick in the pants" feeling. That feeling can easily be seen and explained on a dyno graph (this is why people put big money into dyno tuning,, meaning actually adjusting parameter fuel/ignition inputs within each parameter = IMHO, the early HD Screaming Eagle Race tuners were the best for this and most fun as they allowed exact adjustments within 200 rpm increments = wayyyyy cool and with a little time you could adjust the valleys and dips - both torque and HP above 5225 very close to a straight, hard pull. IMHO, In the real world where dyno output numbers and graphs are used as tools for tuning, that 5252 number is in fact magical as it gives a solid base for the tech to tune from - its a given in the endlessly unuser friendly, Murphy filled world of tuning.. In adding to my perspective of the matter here on the debate floor, take a quick peek at the attached dyno graph.. Notice the 5252 on the blue lines = 1600cc Beemer 6 banger.. Notice the dips and valleys in the graph lines both from torque and up into HP country.. Those are the dips/valleys that, if it were only numbers on a page figured out mathematically instead of induced from actual engine pull pulses, would appear as perfectly straight lines. Those are also the exact varations that a good tech would be seeking to straighten out by adjusting fuel/ignition maps. At least, that is how tuning has worked for me,, doesnt mean I am right though Another point to ponder on this graph is I would guess that the rider riding the Beemer (blue line) would experience a much harder increase in accelleration boost above 5252 than that of the Wing rider (red line). Matter of fact,, I recently watched a video of a couple riders reviewing the Wing and the Beemer and they did some time, two up, on a track, comparing the two.. Its a pretty telling video concerning our little debate here Fool. I will see if I can find it.. Until then, here is the dyno graph I was referring to:
  20. I know brother,, I am one hopelessly sick lop eared varmint aint I?
  21. Anyone else taking time to look beyond the CCP Virus news and notice what's happening in the biking world today?? I've been watching the uptake of the new Polaris/Indian Challenger and have been overly impressed with the glee of those who have test ridden it (youtube is filled with these folks and it is amazing to hear their "HOLY SPAMOKEY" screams of joy as this new water cooled/OHC 108 engine crosses into HP heaven at the magic 5250 R's where hp always takes over for torque).. I have also been amazed at how well the Challenger has been selling and the total interest in the bike all while the world is fighting this corona thing,, pretty impressive!! It is also interesting that Polaris is openly challenging the HD Road Glide with this new one - it remarkably does resemble the fixed fairing Road Glide but the resemblance ends at the fixed fairing as the HD is still the iconic air cooled/push rod 45 degree twin = far from apples to apples IMHO.. Makes me wonder what the outcome will be in Polaris's hope of stealing HD riders from HD.. Polaris seems to have forgotten about their own air cooled push rod 111/116.. Makes me wonder how many Challenger buyers will actually be 111/116 Thunderstroke riders,, following the Polaris Indian sites seem to support this thought as there seems to be a lot of those riders trading their 11/116's in and very little mention of the Challenger on the HD Road Glide sites from what I can see.. Another interesting point has to do with the new SVTC/Eluder sales,, or lack thereof.. I personally find it interesting that Mom Yam took the polls and the polls showed that nobody was interested in a "performance" Venture/bagger back in 2018 (release of the new Venture).. Mom Yam therein jumped on the HD air cooled/push rod band wagon. Less than 2 years later shows tons of left over brand new SVTC/Eluder's sitting in warehouses and still not sellable even at +$10,000 below MSRP fire sales on left overs.. Its like the "give us high torque, low R's, electronic gizmo's light switch was just a real short "on-off" thing or something as Polaris is proving that bikers really do appreciate and love the thrill of wicking it up occasionally.. All this leaving one to wonder what would happen if Mom Yam retraced her steps and dropped that 1700cc V-Max motor into that mean looking SVTC,, worth a shot IMHO.. I have spent a fair amount time aboard the now defunct 1250 V-Rod as I helped a neighbor tune/build one up.. We ended up seeing 114 rwhp on his and it ran strong,, right about even with my 85 V-Max named Crud who would outrun a stock V-Rod easily.. Similar to Mom Yam's sales experience with the SVTC/Eluder, HD riders repelled the V-Rod like a duck repelling water.. Now,, with this new found love for performance,, I cant help but wonder what would happen if HD re-introed the V-Rod Revolution motor only in a touring/bagger platform, I bet if HD dumped another 400cc into that 1250cc V-Rod motor and did that it would be a seller!! Could get interesting out there!!
  22. Your writing prowess is a breath of fresh air during the ups and downs of present day issues Silver!! Concerning your new steed,, due to its cool chrome OEM forward controls and spoke wheels it screams CHOP ME" to a 46 degree rake,, slap on an 18 over Springer and an old school King/Queen seat with a 6 foot twisted steel sissy bar topped off with a functional bayonet scabbard built into the top of it.. Then a quick wheelie down mainstreet of Sturgis during the rally would be in its DNA, IMHO of course LOL
  23. I know,, I still know nutting about nutting but I am still wondering about my original post above,,, maybe somehow the digital circuit board/led system really does not interact well with the non-digital/high draw incandesent light flasher control unit.. May sound crazy but again,, I wonder if your not going to end up with something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Pin-Speed-Adjustable-LED-Flasher-Relay-Fix-Motorcycle-Turn-Signal-Hyper-12V/282385721814?hash=item41bf8029d6:g:8CkAAOSwTM5Yvap1 being needed to make the project do what you what it to do... Unless of course, the led lighting package and controls have a flasher unit built into it and you are wiring it so the OEM flasher is still inputting when it is not suppost to be..
  24. OUTSTANDING!!! Good for you brother and you are more than welcome on the comments!!!
