Absolutely no need to go back in your corner ya lop eared WWW snow monster varmint!! I am tracking 100% with you Jeff and thank you and appreciate your input!! It's been a while since I opened up the cabinet and found the mouse chewed wiring and did the testing and all that,, it went down right at the beginning of my health failing, I stuck a 12000 btu shacker in bedroom window to stay cool while dealing with all the health stuff that took me off my feet for a bit.. From memory,, as I recall,, a mouse/chipmunk got into the control/terminal box on the side of the condenser cabinet.. It managed to chew thru the ground wire in the harness going down to the motor. The stripped ground wire managed to connect with one of the hot wires (I can't remember if it was a one of the leads going down to the motor or if it was high voltage lugged up on the controls that touched the ground wire,, I think it was one of the hots in the motor harness). I do remember cutting the bad section out of the ground wire and butt splicing it. When I was unable to get the compressor to start I pulled the harness from the compressor and it tested bad,, I believe it tested open on one of the hot legs going into the compressor windings - going from memory.. I did some digging, thinking the compressor would be thermally protected and found out that the thermal protection for that compressor was internal of the hermatically sealed unit.. I then did some digging and found out that yes, it was possible to open it up by tossing the unit on a lathe and opening the compressor and replacing the internal "fuse" and then rewelding the compressor.. At that point I called in a pro to get an opinion on my options and was told they did not repair compressors,, way to expensive and that I would need to replace from the A Frame evap coils back consendser.. I called a couple more installers to see how the price thing looked.. At that time between 2 and 3 grand was where the bids fell.. I been feeling a little more productive these days (actually awake more then 4 hours a day lately) and was contemplating the air unit and maybe grabbing a condenser and installing myself and that is why I posted here,, just to get some thoughts.. I do plan on going back out and retesting the motor while videoing myself so you guru's can crap detect me.. I was actually hoping to do that today and getting a plan established before the heat sets in BUT,, then this MASSIVE flood started so the entire air unit project is gonna be side lined for a bit.. After that last 6 inches of rain fell last night I have been busy with gas/power/internet outages and helping others with sump pump installs as well as replacing one of my own and unplugging a sump line to move some of the water around,, it's gone insane here!!! All while social distancing of course!! A couple pictures of todays challenges (the pic of the radar shot is from last night as we were in chat!!) that we woke up to - 6 inches of rain on top of a completely saturated area:

1986 venture inspection for newby

,, no opinion on the MK2's,, my Venture experience is surrounded by torturing MK1's!! -

Thanks Unc!! I will get the info to you just as soon as it quits pouring rain so I can meander outside and look for a spec plate,, or two,, or three!! Puc

House is 15 years old.. The evaporater is inside a plentum above the furnace and the condenser is outside sitting on a concrete slab beside the house.. I am not sure what size it is or what refrigerant it is.. I wonder if there is spec plate on either the condenser itself or maybe somewhere on the furnace.. I know that the plentum also supports and has a humidifier attached to the same area as the internal "A FRAME" evaporator.. I hear what @Marcarl is saying but also know that what you are saying is exactly what I noticed by shopping E-Bay... One of those "Goodman" complete condenser units on there for 600 or 800 bucks looks mighty inviting as a repair unit project.. I just thought I could save some cash and have some fun tinkering with it BUT,, I really dont wanna throw away the cash I could have used to hire it done... You know what I mean Sky,, I KNOW you do, your a do it yourselver too.. Anyway,, thanks to both you lop eared varmints for your advice!! Puc

Your welcome Mama! Can't imagine the talent of someone able to keep such gorgeous, iconic machine as that up to snuff!! I know Moped has those skills,, is your Son also in that league? You are sooo right,, that is downright amazing!!!

I know we have numerous Venture guru's here that I have bugged to death thru the years (thanks you guys/girls!!) in keeping the old 1st Gens out doing what they do best = CTFW but was wondering,, any one ever fool around installing a Central Air Conditioner Condenser? Crazy as it this may sound,, brother Murphy and his band of misfits who love following me around instructed a Chipmonk or Mouse (could't tell which by his/her remains) in the fine art of chewing on just the right wire on our homes condenser to short out the Compressor on ours and to do so internally on the compressor so as to not disturb any thermal or electrical protection outside of the compressor did there job to perfection:Avatars_Gee_George:.. I did a little calling around and found out that for a professional installer/repair person to come in and repair the unit - we are looking at over 2 grand as,, I am being told,, the whole unit including the Evaporator "A Frame" coil would also have to be replaced as they are made to be used only as a matched unit??.. As in my nature,, I always question answers like this,,, I KNOW - ITS A FLAW IN MY GREATLY FLAWED CHARACTER TO ALWAYS QUESTION THIS BUT = why cant I just by a brand new condenser - cabinet and all and just install it myself? If possible,, what kind of job am I looking at in so doing?? Tools? Methods? Any secrets you may be willing to share (dont tell me nothing your Union is gonna hang you for) about install tricks?? Think I'm nuts? Feel free to say so,, heard it all before THANKS IN ADVANCE for any or no advice.. Puc

Heyyy,, I ain't no Buckeye!!! ,, cant ya see the flag in the upper right hand corner there!! Aint much of a mechanically inclined Wolverine either so, yeah,, you and those guru's you hang out with hang around here,, I may need to pick your brain some brother!!

Not Loving This Hitchdoc Install
cowpuc replied to Freebird's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Speaking of hitches,, I got a real nice Markland with all the attachements for a MK1 that there is no way on Gods green earth I am ever going to use.. Anyone thinking of playing with such craziness can PM me.. Personally,, I never cared for the idea of having a trailer pile drive Tip, Me and our luggage into the side of some kids car whose driver was busy answering a text message (one would never have been able to squeeze between the tree's on those deer runs we used to traverse to access/camp on the North Rim either but thats a different issue).. I always figured my reactionary time that engages my avoidance skills had not been developed to include a trailer hooked to the back of us BUT - I do know plenty of people who have those remarkable skills down pat and are able to toss their bike around with the trailer attached like it was not even there so I know its doable.. Concerning the whole warranty thing.. This is gonna sound like a little more of Puc's typical babble I am sure but,, back from 99 thru 2001 Polaris had major issues with their new to the market - Victory brand of motorcycles.. It seemed that the trannies in those early models had a major design flaw that caused tranny failures and even caused some rear wheel lockup issues.. I was really close friends with a fellow business man who owned the local Polaris shop (as well as other brands) at the time and we always shared a lot of industry news with each other.. Remember,, this is a time well after the Magnuson Act was passed here in the States.. As the early buyers of those bikes started having issues and started coming back to my buddies dealership for warranty work,, the dealership got notice from Polaris that they would not be honoring any warranties on those bikes but were choosing to forward the decision making of such into the courts.. Concerned,, my friend did some investigating (which he should have done before he ever took the Polaris franchise on IMHO) and found out that this was actually customary for Polaris to do business as such.. It appeared that the Polaris attorneys of that time period (they, as most large corporations had/have a full time staff of attorneys that are paid whether they do anything or not) and bean counters had gotten together and figured out that there was no way possible that court fees/fines of a Magnuson violation would even come close to the costs of funding the warranty work needed to cover the bikes flaws = they just refused to do it therefor! Polaris did hire an outside company to redesign the flawed trannies but those new trannies did not come out until 01 or 02 - all the owners of the flawed bikes ended up having to just eat their losses and the bikes they had purchased never did get warranty repair. My buddie kicked Polaris to the curb over this issue so I remember it all like it was yesterday.. Would another company like Yamaha ever think of doing such a thing?? I am sure not,, they have always stood behind their products and given the customer exactly what they have paid for,, usually even more than what they paid for with continual and prompt customer service being a mainstay to the their business model - SO PLEASE DO NOT MISREAD WHAT I JUST WROTE!! Just saying,, I think it always best, IMHO, to cover my own butt and know what could happen is not impossible to happen.. Know what I mean? -
,, I would LOVE to own something like that!! I'd ride it too!! Just like his Mom, your son's got really good taste Mama!!! Thanks for sharing!! Puc

:scared:WOWZY WOW WOW WOW,, great job on doing the research and putting that to writing Marcarl,, you done a good job IMHO!!! As is "normal" for me,, I tend to look at things a little differently,, always have and probably always will:missingtooth:.. Believe it or not,, like most of you I had Grandparents too and one of them,, my Grandpa took a special liking to me as a youngen. He use to tell me stories of the old days and taught me stuff as a kid that I will never forget.. From those discussions and from some of my own lives journey,, although not as eliquent as Carls writings (no one puts words to use like Carl ), here are my thoughts on the subject: Yeah,, those folks born in 1900 obviously did have it rougher than we do BUT,, here are some things that they got to behold that may,, or may not have,, been pretty interesting: 1. They got to experience the introduction of the motorcycle!!! Bill Harley and Art Davidson were over on the other side of Lake Michigan from me,, in @Flyinfool's home town,, having a riot in a little shed producing what would become the worlds most iconic motorcycle of all time!! 2. Great inventors like John Browning was alive and well and working steadfastly on weapons that would assist in the fight to keep our homeland free.. From his amazing mind came one of my all time favorite shooters - the 1911 45 acp!! An incredible piece of history to behold for the first time back then, as it is now, I am sure!! IMHO, probably just as important and as awesome as Sam Colts "Peace Maker" was to the 1800's!! 3. I am sure that the multitudes of folks born in 1900 who always wondered what was beyond the horizons of more than a few miles travel a day on foot or horseback were amazed and thankful to see Henry Ford make the automobile affordable for all families by his mass production ideas.. American ingenuity and capitalism was in full swing and on fertile ground thankfully as the world would find out when our country put the practices Henry broughtex to the forefront and was used to defeat both Communist and Socialist aggression one more time in the very near future.. God help us and what would this world be like now if people like Henry Ford had not been able realize the potential of his dreams! 4. Speaking of the sickness and death the people of those days had to face,, think also of the fulfillment of the saying "necessity is the mother of invention" of that day and age.. How once freedom from oppression is realised, even though hungry/tired and working thru tough times may be the testing of the day, the human mind has a way of declaring WE WILL SURVIVE! I am sure people like Jonas Salk felt that way as his long hours of hard work finally paid off and the vaccine for Polio was realised.. My own Grandfather told me how absolutely joy filled and thankful our country,, and the world for matter,, everyone was when this great American victory was hailed!! I am old and my pointer finger is getting tired so I will end here.

Not sure if this is what you were/are referring to Patch but this popped up in my e-mail today as a post by Bum.. If my assumption is correct and this video is what you are referring to,, INDEED,,, very well put @saddlebum!!! On this,, Patch and I totally agree!!! P.S. - if I am wrong on this,, please disregard this post!! Here is the video that popped up in my email: -
WOWZY,, that is really sad,,, I get it but it's still really sad.... ,, ya know,, take it back,, I still really dont get it,, I know,, here I go again,, steppin out onto a branch of which I do not belong but what da heck,, its that flaw in my charactor sneakin out again .. If I were over in Consin,, on the eastern boundry of Freedom,, I would just alter my plans (like I ever had any whenever Tip, Tweeks and I headed west) and spend the entire adVenture making a game out of avoiding people.. I know endless spots to camp,, for free - openly on the prairies - in the mountains - under cell towers - under awnings or abandoned gas stations - sneak in the backroads of the NP's and camp miles and miles away from everything and everybody and on and on.. Live off peanut butter and the apples hanging from the side of the scoot... Sometimes in life,, matter of fact most times in my life, the greatest times are had by doing things the people who have no clue are telling you not to do are exactly the things you really should be doing - ,, I am not sure even I can figure that one out and it came out of my mind

Can't start my 83
cowpuc replied to Venture Capitalist's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yep.. I am in agreement with Fool on this one.. I would definitely not use Chem Dip on the starter,, I tested a bunch of carb cleaners and found Chem Dip absolutely second to none for that purpose (and like you Cappy,, also use for carbon clean up when other methods just dont work = stuff rocks) but I would strongly suggest not getting that chemical anywhere near those windings - it would probably not be real friendly to the varnish coating therein.. I always like to just blow out the amature, inner starter, brush plate really well with compressed air first as that entire area is always extremely dry any way and the removes fairly easily. For further cleaning IMHO, a nylon cleaning brush (even a clean/dry tooth brush works great) is the best route cause you really do not want to scratch the coils, again forced air to assist.. Electronic cleaner is good assist too.. I like to double check the bearings and brushes before closing it and always sneak/work some synthetic bicycle chain lube into the bearings. Also, best to replace the oring seal found on the mount nose too.. -
No Mama,, he really did!!! Kee knows like the rest of us know,, YOU are the GREATEST chat host EVER!!!!! Now get off your lop eared varmint backsides and boot Mama's chat attendance hopes and dreams out of the universe!!!!

My apologies for any hard feelings here Patch.. I extend my hand to you in a handshake of friendship out of mutual respect for opposing opinions. I think it best that we drop the Big Brother/Little brother routine as well as the "game" as you call it.. I propose that we go back to addressing each other as Patch and Puc and build from there.. What say you? -
Just noticed this,, 230 bucks for a full on, high cap Double/Single action 5" 9mm brand new!! Comes with 2 15 round mags.. Good looking shooter for the money as it appears.. I have friends with "SDS" products (none myself) and they seem to do pretty dog gone good although the one varmint who grabbed a 1911 45 SDS found out it cant handle flat nose 200 grain Lake City reloads like my Gen 3 loves.. Thinking it may need the chamber ramped or something.. This would be one of my concerns with something like this little shooter,, wondering if it will handle a huge plethora of ammo like the 92F's do? Anyone one got any input? Here's the shooter: https://www.classicfirearms.com/sds-imports-zigana-m16-sa-da-semi-automatic-pistol-9mm-15rd-5-barrel-black/?trk_msg=QVMNT0SB37FKVBLKOB4AMS2U6G&trk_contact=O39C9PCUPIIH5IC9PMRN4RACIO&trk_sid=AQQE9718OGNERLPS2R7GC2Q448&utm_source=listrak&utm_medium=email&utm_term=https%3a%2f%2fwww.classicfirearms.com%2fsds-imports-zigana-m16-sa-da-semi-automatic-pistol-9mm-15rd-5-barrel-black%2f&utm_campaign=20200512ZiganaM16&utm_content=Secondary

cowpuc replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
IMHO you are wayyyy over thinking this little brother.. This is not a gag, or a set up,, or a conspiracy nor did I ask for or trick any of the clubs members into agreeing with me in their responses in the Poll.. Fact is, this poll is 100% in response to your claim that stuck rings and/or valve issues requiring the need for compression testing are a COMMON problem (your words, not mine) with the Yamaha V-4 that most, if not all, of the members here are very familiar with. The poll results are what they are,, no more, no less.. Fact is,, as the poll proves, those issues are NOT a common problem with these engines.. Thats all there is to this Patch so YES,, this thread should definitely be taken seriously in response to your claim.. Oh,, by the way,, really missed you last night in chat!! Had a record number of participants but NO MUSIC!!!!!! -
This is probably gonna sound crazy but I have suffered with that MacGuyver bug throughout my entire life,, just cant get enough MacGuverizing.. I also have thourougly enjoyed a lifetime of testing products to see if they actually stand up to the legends the companies promote them with.. In that spirit I gotta tell you about a product I discovered a product that you may find useful.. I once got one of my 1st Gens tipped over on a mountain side while out CTFW in the west.. After collecting my thoughts I realized there was no way to upright my bike so I ended up rolling it all the way upside down and over to get it uprighted.. In the process, one of my saddle bags got smashed up pretty badly.. I stitched it back together again with zip ties and went about my business.. Years later Tip and I were on our way home from Americade in NY, got caught in a HUGE thunderstorm w/ flooding.. We hit a piece of watered out highway so hard that it nocked the mudflap of the front tire and Tips feet right off the passenger bags.. 2 days later I noticed water dripping from the saddlebag I had repaired years earlier.. I opened the bag and found my tools still underwater.. I had tried a bunch of sealents/adhesives to seal the bag up before this, this time I tried something different.. I tried this product called E-6000.. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW, was I impressed.. So much so that I actually switched my decades long go to for diaphram repair product (YamaBond 5) to this product as it proved more than worthy for that application.. I have hunch that you may find E-6000 to be exactly the product you are looking for!! I get mine from the local Family Dollar for a couple bucks a tube!! Ohh,, by the way,, I think it was a dear friend of mine, @videoarizona , who once told me that he used to use this stuff either in the military or in road work for attaching reflectors to roadways or someway.. Could be wrong... Regardless,, IMHO the stuff is amazing!!
