  1. I bought an economy, long range scope based on a couple YouTuber's reviews a couple months ago. When I received it, I was impressed with the apparent build quality so I decided I would build a new long range whole punch to go under it. I was considering my options and leaning toward a Ruger Precision Rifle in .308. It looks to be a great system out of the box and reasonably priced, though still expensive. While down in VA for a family reunion, I found a new bang stick shop and spent a few hours trading lies and drooling on their stock when the proprietor asked me what I would say if he could show me .308ish ballistics from an AR15 platform. He then went on to educate me on the 6mm ARC from Hornady. After a few minutes googling the round, I decided to buy the parts to build a Upper in 6mm ARC. After gathering everything up, the nice young man offered to assemble the upper free of charge. BONUS! I ended up with an Aero Precision upper receiver(no forward assist) and Aero Precision 12.5 M Lock forearm with a Ballistic Advantage 18" barrel, rifle length gas tube and adjustable gas block. Capped with the Silencer Co. QD muzzle device. OH, some nice Trump 2024 graphics on the dust cover. Here it is mounted on my Fight! lower with the 30cal JK suppressor and Magpul bipod.

  3. Just to be clear on this, the level in the sight glass is with the bike vertical, not leaning on the side stand. When I had my Venture and my Royal Star, I used a mechanics mirror with an extendable shaft, so I could see the sight glass while straddling the bike to hold it vertical. Alternately a 1-1/2" to 2" thick piece of wood under the side stand will hold it almost vertical, just be careful not to bump the bike or turn the handle bars, as it could cause the bike to fall over to the right side .

  4. Brakes are not linked on Royal Star Ventures. May be a collapsed line somewhere. Start at the outlet of the master cylinder break that connection and press on the pedal, if fluid freely flows, reconnect and work your way down the line until you find a point where the flow is diminished, if you get to the bleeder valve on the caliper and do not find an issue, maybe the calipers are stuck or dirty to the point they will not move freely.

  8. This was a politically motivated assassination. Quite simply any politician that promote violent crime should face 15-25 years in prison, lose their seat immediately, and be forced to take all their gained wealth while in office and donate it to charities that provide services to the violent crime they promoted. They should never again be allowed any governmental or political job. How does one go from a net worth in the negatives to a millionaire in just a couple of years? Become a Politician. I pray for Mr. Kirk's family.

  9. Good morning to all. Today, we remember all the lives that were lost 24 years ago, 09/11/2001. I still remember where I was when this all happened. May God Bless the United States of America.

  11. Likewise on this end...planning to do some moderate riding around and take advantage of the nice weather all weekend long and up until Labor day. I wear a fitness band on my wrist all day and it keeps track of my activities including steps, workout activities and one of them is heart rate. I find it comforting to know that my heart rate drops all the way down to 50, when I ride and simply enjoy the wind. With that said, relax and enjoy the ride.

  12. Rode to the office today. Been able to get in more and more. Wife is still a little scared of me riding after the stroke but just taking it easy and not pressing it. With the Monday holiday hoping the weather holds out and I can get in a couple hundred miles.

  13. My riding has slowed considerably since Loretta won't ride and now I work remote. I would put ~500 miles a week on the bike when it was my daily commute.

  16. Good evening fellow riders. My Bro-in-law and I made it back home this afternoon after a trip down to Natchez MS on the Natchez Trace. We got on the Natchez Trace Parkway a little SW of Nashville TN and took 2 days to get to Natchez, with a night in Tupelo MS. We crossed the Mississippi River and stayed in Vidalia Louisiana Thursday night. I have been up and down the Mississippi River hundreds of times in my career as a towboater and driven through Vidalia several times chasing boats down for crew change but never spent the night there. We were blessed to stay in a hotel that was right on the river.

  19. I changed the air filters and did a carb sync on the Venture today getting ready for a trip down the Natchez Trace tomorrow. While I had it sitting level, I checked the oil level, and it was dead center of the sight glass. And I have not seen any more oil on the under the bike. So MAYBE, I was wrong about the oil coming from the bike. It could have been some oily drippage from the washing we gave it. I'll keep a close watch one it and see how it goes.

  22. Glad you did not go without your riding partner. lol It could have been a bonus ride to and from today and another ride next week. When it comes to remembering important dates like that, I always input them on my iPhone calendar. I love the iPhone calendar and it has saved me and reminded me several times over the years. Not that I've mentioned that, I just might upgrade my iPhone 13 to the upcoming new iPhone 17 by the end of the year. With your 'honey to do' list, you just made it happen. We all know this...A Happy Wife means A Happy Life.

  23. Itโ€™s 9:30 am and Iโ€™m all dressed up and ready to ride to the Tomahawk Fall Ride in Tomahawk WI. I have to be there by noon and itโ€™s almost a 2 hour ride. My riding partner is supposed to be here and heโ€™s not. He is always on time or early so Iโ€™m thinking the worst. At 10 am I finally call him.. no answer! Then 5 minutes later he calls me back and I find out that the ride is next weekend!!! Now Iโ€™m doing honey do projects!๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜

  24. Still puzzling about the yellow oil patch. If you are in the habit of filling the oil up near the top of the sight glass it tends to blow out the crankcase and back into the air intake, then out the tubes. If there's more oil in the crankcase than you thought and it smells like gasoline you may have a stuck carb float letting gas into the engine and down into the crank. A lot of the guys on this site and the owners manual says to shut the petcock off between runs to avoid that problem. Hopefully that's not what you have going on.

  25. I got a new lock nut and finished installing the shock this morning. I took it out to the Yamaha shop for a new rear tire, and it rode great. Going to take a ride down the Natchez Trace with my bro in law next week. I'll share a report on that ride when we got home.

  26. Share some pics when you can! Here's mine just now - dry 950 miles later. And if yours was low on shock fluid and was pogo sticking, you will be amazed at how much better the ride is when you get it fixed.

  27. I got the shock off this afternoon. It took about 20 minutes to get it set in the vise and start draining it. I made the bracket to press it up to change the O ring but stopped for dinner. It looks like it will be an easy fix, but I didn't get the fork oil today so it will be Tuesday before I can reinstall it.

  29. I run a BF Goodrich T/A radial on my 01 RSV, have been for the last 10 years. Rides great and grips the road well wet or dry. My first one took me almost 40k miles before I put a new one on because of age, still had better than 50% tread left.

  31. I love my 98 RSTD...I hate this bike! Can someone please, please tell me how the f#$k I get the big ugly air box cover back on after changing the air filter? I'm seriously considering scrapping this thing for a freaking mule! Maybe just chopping up into a million chunks of scrap iron!

  32. Don't know if it applies the same in this situation, but I know a collapsed brake line can cause some problems. When you bleed at the caliper, does it seem to have good pressure?

  36. Have you flushed out the brake fluid to ensure there is no old contaminated fluid in the system? Have you inspected or rebuilt the rear master cylinder? Try getting a speed bleeder for the rear bleeder port, those work great make bleeding a breeze. I would also consider going back to OEM rotor, you can check the specs on the rotor thickness requirements in the service manual found in the tech section here on the forum. Well I see Freebird beat me to it as I was typing.
    1 point
  37. Iโ€™m not sure. Certainly sounds like the new rotor is too thin but could also be other things. You said you bled the brakes but how long since a complete fluid change? At those miles, I would hope that has been done. Other than that, which is the first thing I would try, it could be your master cylinder

  39. Got back home last Friday from Sturgis Motorcycle Rally on the bike. 970 miles in two days!!,and yesterday afternoon I was rotating tires on the car and checking tire pressures. I thought โ€œwhy donโ€™t I do all the vehicles as long as I have everything out?โ€ So I crawled under the right saddlebag to check the rear tire and found the muffler hanging down. I had lost the rear mounting bolt and rubber isolator. So I dig around in my treasures and come up with a suitable replacement and voila!, she is up and running again!

  42. Hi All I am finally getting my Venture Max HD Build started and have been collecting parts for the Bike since I purchased it in 2018 **I am missing the Front axle Spacer so I am hoping someone on here has one that I can purchase. **I am also looking for a set of Solid Motor Mounts I have the drawing to have some made but thought I would check to see if anyone has a set for sale before having some turned for me. Here are some details of the build the plan is to have the bike completed and ready to ride from NB Canada to the 100th Ann of Laconia this coming June 2023 The starting model is a 1984 Venture Royale, I have pulled the 1200 (bad second Gear) and purchased a 1300 from a salvage yard out of an 1987 Venture from Ontario, found a set of Vmax heads with Cams from another salvage yard on ebay out of Georgia. Carburation will be the conversion to a single carb using a VTC motors Intake and VW pict 34 carburator. Exhaust Piping I will be custom building new pipes out of SS Exhaust pipe, HD sportster Headers and a set of 2002 HD Road King Mufflers. All new Brake pads to be installed Luggage boxes I am swapping out the side boxes and replacing with a set of HD hard bags as they have more room and personally prefer the look of these style of bags, purchased a set of HD Saddlebag brackets to cut down on some fabrication time. I will retain the original Trunk and Fairing, and windshield and repair as needed with a plastic welder and plastic welding staples., all body panels Fenders and luggage containers to be painted thinking of Candy apple red over Black to give me a Black cherry Final color. Headlight and all bulbs will be replaced with LED, I am also replacing the old fuse box with a new ATC style fuses. 45. Folks, in spite of us having an area specifically designated for posting classifieds, people continue to post them in the Watering hole and other areas of the forum. I have addressed this issue many times in the past and am going to address it this one last time. Maybe people would prefer that we have NO other areas. Just remove them all and just have the Watering Hole? It would make it hard to find things but that seems to be where everybody wishes to post it all anyway. There are several reasons why anything for sale should NOT be place anyplace except the classifieds or at the very least, the forum "Links to Classifieds, Ebay, Craigslist and etc." The first reason is that the posts there automatically delete themselves after a predetermined length of time. That prevents me or the other moderators from going through the Watering Hole or other areas and manually deleting posts for items and etc. on Ebay that are long expired. The second reason is because the members here, NOT me, decided long ago that they wanted our classifieds open to post only from supporting members. The consensus was that you didn't want strangers that have never participated here joining up as trial members when the only intention they have is to try and sell something. You wanted the ads to be from people that are supporting members here that you know and trust. That was YOUR decision. If you have changed your mind just let me know and I'll open the classifies to everybody. It somewhat defeats the purpose of making the classifieds read only if people are allowed to post their for sale items anywhere they want to. Your ads should be posted in the Classifieds. When you post them there a post is automatically created in the "Links to Classifieds" forum so you are also automatically posting it to the forum. There is not reason to then ALSO post a message in the watering hole or anywhere else that "hey...I just place my bike in the classifieds"..... So, for several years now I have asked several times that you stop posting ads where they shouldn't be. I have deleted a very few that were posted but the vast majority of the time, I take the time to manually move it to the correct place and just keep quite about it. It especially bothers me to delete an ad that I can tell a lot of time went into creating so once again I will take the time to move it to the correct place and let it go. So no more mister nice guy. Any ad that I see posted in the Watering Hole or any of the other forums will be deleted as soon as I see it. Regardless of the effort that was put in creating the ad, I am deleting it. This will make a few people mad. I'm sorry about that but this has been discussed many times.

  46. Just for clarification Don and certainly NOT to be a smarty pants,, should we also cut the chatter about buying and selling in the Watering Hole? I know we have had lots and lots of chatter about so and so selling this and that, that may be the kind of activity that makes people feel like "double posting" or just posting in the Watering Hole gets them better exposure.. Should "I am looking for,,,,," chatter be handled the same way? Not trying to add to your burden my friend,, YOU have a very tough job and are the bestest ever boss we could ask for,,, just wanna make sure we are all on the same page.. Thanks for keeping the site organized and very well ran! Personally, I LOVE our site just the way it is in design and organization and think removing the other sections would be nothing but chaos!! Sorry for the frustrations we caused you and and THANK YOU for straightening us out!! Puc
