    bike show

The next town put on a bike show today. So for the price of nothing we entered. This was not a big time affair just something else to draw in some people for the rib fest that they throw every year. Now mind you, you go to something like this and what do you see but Harleys everywhere. Now I know the 86 is old but it still looks good. I know,I know it's a antique too. Needless to say being that 99 percent of the other bikes there were Harleys the Yamaha was "out of place". There was 2 Honda VTXs and 1 wing with about 2 Kaws in the sport bike class. We had fun but come home empty handed. Tough to get any votes for a old Yamaha from the Harley mentality. But there was one bright spot to the day. There was 3 entries for the 3-wheel class. 1 Boss Hoss, 1 Harley with sidecar and a Ice cooler on wheels{ had a electric motor}. Get this the Ice cooler pulled second over the Harley!:rotfl:Justice was served.
  2. It must be something about the area or maybe it's the dealerships but I have only seen a handful of Ventures locally (Slidell, Louisiana) in the past four years that I have owned mine. A local restaurant has a bike night every wednesday (hundreds of bikes everyweek) with food, beer booths and music, vendors set up shop and sometimes riding exhibitions from the Sheriff's dept and over 95% of the bikes are Harleys? My bike ends up being the odd ball. I took the tank emblems off so people always ask me "what kind of bike is that?" We need more Venture riders !!!!!
  3. I had to go to Hawaii and Alaska recently for business (yea, rough job). In both places I had a very pleasant rental experience and wanted to recommend the places in case any of you get the chance to go there. Hawaii - In Honolulu the rental company I used was Big Kahuna Rentals http://www.bigkahunarentals.com. In the cruiser style they had some Harleys and a couple of smaller Honda Shadows. I rented a 750 Shadow, it was perfect for the island, after all there ain't a whole lot of miles there. Alaska - In Anchorage I used Alaska Rider http://www.akrider.com. Their cruisers were all Harleys. I rented a KLR 650 dual sport for my off day, first time on a dual sport, but then again I did get on some roads I would not have wanted to be on with the Venture.
  4. I have been hearing speculation that the 09 harleys may have a water cooled enigne in the road king or ultra classic. Anyone heard anything?

    Dixie Thunder Run

Anyone going on the Dixie Thunder Run this year? would like to see more Stars there this year felt a little out of place last year, with all the Harleys around me, lol http://www.dixiethunderrun.net:225:
  6. Its going to hit 70 !!!! today in Seattle !!! Can you believe that ?? So, I 'm going out right now, and get the "Black Beast " fired up and go for a ride!!! 3 weeks ago, we had a sunny 70 deg day, I rode down to Mt. Rainier, on the Venture, there were so many Harleys on the road, I had trouble finding a place to ride !! Should be the same today, ( The kitchen remodel work can wait till next week )
  7. A couple of friends of mine did this run a couple of summers ago from a city a couple of hours west of here all the way up to Alaska. I know they rode Harleys on this run but I thought some ppl would want to see the scenery anyway, some of it is so gorgeous!!... (note the Harleys had breakdown issues... ) http://www.scra.ca/alaska

    Venture leads the way

Yall would be so proud. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/ride-time/IMG_1176.jpg Went riding with a bunch of buddies Sunday...once again, I was asked to be 'point man'. I took everyone on a short ride around some of the more scenic areas in Amarillo, and led them to the top of this little hill that is northwest of Amarillo. I pulled over at the top, and although its hard to see, my 2007 Venture is at the front. All the other bikes are Harleys. Three ElectraGlides, a Fatboy, a Sportster, and a RoadKing. You can see the Amarillo skyline in the distance. Granted, these guys know I'm good at running 'point', and they know that I'm very familiar with the area. Still, its a hoot when your the only metric rider with a small herd of Harleys following. Kinda fun. I tried to get some video of the ride, but its hard to do when your the one in front, riding solo. Then my camera batteries died. Oh well. First order of the day was a big biker breakfast at a place called Cody's, on the north side of Amarillo. Huge pile of food, and we all just toss in a few dollars to the cook. Then we made a few stops at some watering holes, and ate some free food, including calf fries, at a redneck dive called the Ranch House. All in all, a good time was had by all. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/ride-time/DSCN0937.jpg So...any other Venture riders wanna come along next time?

  10. Some very nice pictures of a collection of mostly older bikes. If you love motorcycles check this out. Over 100 years of bikes. Vincents, Nortons, Hendersons Harleys, Indians, Click on the link below and then on slideshow in the upper right corner. The Venue for the show is awesome. http://douglasschwartz.zenfolio.com/p27740263
  11. I may joke about Harleys .....But........ they sure look good customized
  12. Saw this on another forum for trucks and thought it might be fun. Post your favorite thing about your bike and try not to repeat what anyone else has said. So, here goes... What I like about my bike is this... Today being a beautiful and sunny day, everyone and their mom was out riding. What did I see ALL DAY LONG? Harleys! Lots and lots of Harleys! I have nothing against them but they begin to all look the same. I probably saw 200 bikes today and 194 of them were Harleys. These guys spend THOUSANDS on their bikes trying to get that "one-of-a-kind" look and they end up seeing 10 other people on their street with the same bike. I did not see ONE OTHER Venture today. That makes my bike (purchased for just $5,600) more custom than all the $20k and $30k bikes I saw today. And THAT is what I like (or even love) about my bike.
  13. So all my buds with Harleys have Guardian Bells. Is that for Harleys only? I want all the voodoo help I can get.
