  1. Can anyone around Boone or Blowing Rock tell me if the leaves are starting to change there? I am thinking about riding to Grandfather Mountain, but if the leaves are already turning brown and falling off like here in VA I might need to find somewhere else to go. Thanks hairman
  2. I bought my 83 about two months ago, after it's first washing I armor-all'ed the seat and that is when it started to happen. The seat started kinda turning gooey. It's like the first layer is disolving. My bike is gold with a brown seat so what I need is a good used seat or information on where to get a stock cover to replace the sticky one.
  3. Before anyone asks, yes, I did search the entire site and can't find a darn thing pertaining to this issue. Here goes. I have two good used rectifiers. One is apparently for the 83-85 model and the part number is 26H-81960-A0-00 and the other is for an 86 - 93 (I think anyway) and its part number is 2WR-81960-A0-00. When using the procedure outlined in the Repair Manuals, the procedures both for the 83-85 and the 86 and up refer to a "brown wire". However, the newer model rectifier (2WR) doesn't have a brown wire like the earlier model rectifier. Is there anyone experienced in this area to be able to explain why the 2WR rectifier would not have the brown wire like the Repair Manual states it should. Or am I just going nuts. Any light anyone can provide would be of great assistance.
  4. Still working on my chicken coop saved 87' Royale and I need to find a saddle. The previous owner had approx. 2 " of foam removed from the drivers portion of the seat due to a short inseam. I am 6' 1" and I need the extra height to hopefully remove my knees from the fairing much less the fairing bags. The bottom side seam of the drivers seat is now even with the seat pan so I believe there is about 2" removed. My local shop said they can not get the proper foam to reshape the seat to original specs. What should I expect to pay for a used seat not needing recovered? I have been watching Ebay...what is a 87' seat worth? Once I find a good seat I will have one available to someone who is also inseam challenged, which is in very good to excellent condition and Brown. One other question...are the seats from the 85' and earlier Ventures the same as the 86'-93's ? Regards Dave

  6. I have an 87 1st gen. I am trying to wire my bike for a trailer which is a 4 wire trailer. By the battery is my fuse box with brown, blue, red/white > wires. then there is another bundle of wiring that is all grouped > together very tightly. In this group there is white, yellow, pink, blue, brown with a > red line and a couple double colored wires. They are sort of tight > together. Are these the wires I need to splice into for this?--I am trying to wire in a modulite power module. Is there an easier place to splice into near the battery area where there is more room? Thanks for any and all help

  8. After three and a half years of not working, that ain't real easy! As some of you know, I hurt my back at work in October of '04 (2 weeks after buying my house!) and the last day that I worked was the day after Thanksgiving '04. After a year and a half of therapy, I let the Doc cut me in May of '06. He did a fusion and some other stuff on my back. I was on disability until July of '07 when I was released by the doctor and I left UPS. Since then I've had no income except from roommates that I took in to help with expenses. On disability I was making less than half of what I had been earning. It seems that the more you earn, the more you are hurt by disability, because they have a cap on it. Today I started training with FedEx Express as a courier. The lifting should be a lot less at FedEx. This is the air division, not the home dlivery (or ground). I can lift up to 70 pounds, I just can't do it as repetitively as is required at Big Brown. (What can Brown do TO you?!) The good news is that now I have an income again , the bad new is that this is really going to cut into my riding ! I guess there won't be anymore staying on line reading this stuff til 3am, either! Y'all think of me in the next few weeks while I'm in training! Oh Well, at least I can ride to work. I rode today with massive thunderstorms coming in, I decided that I needed to start the legend early (even if only in my own mind!).
  9. I am aware of the forum section that discusses the history of the Venture. It has a section for colors by year (link below). http://www.venturerider.org/modules.php?name=History#Colors%20by%20Year While the person credited for listing all the different variations is to be commended, I believe we need to take it a step further to include pictures of said colors. My reasoning is that some years came with multiple color combos, and in some cases, you cannot tell which color combo a particular V or VR has. For example, in 1987 it lists; 1987 brown DS/DT Copper Brown/ Birch Brown 1987 brown DS/DT Elegant Brown/ Imperial Brown among others, but several of us have not been able to distinguish between the color combos. So my proposal is to have fellow forum member post pictures of their bikes designating the color they have. Preferably, it will be based on paperwork they have on their bikes, or even better a color brochure of that particular model year. A good example would be the post below by mbrood which includes the 1986 brochure listing the different color bikes featured in it. The listed colors from year to year are as follows so far; 1200 1983 black TK Sparkle crimson ( single color ) 1983 red TK New Ruby Red/ Romanesque Crimson 1983 gold TDK Alluvial Gold/ Silky Gold 1984 gold DL/DK Alluvial Gold/ Silky Gold 1984 red L/KC2 Bright Cherry Red ( single color ) 1984 blue L/KC2 Orion Silver / Aurora Silver 1984 red DL/DK New Ruby Red /Romanesque Crimson 1985 brown DN Glorius Maxi Brown / Marshall Gold 1300 1986 gold DS/DT - - like 1200 gold - - 1986 brown DS/DT Copper Brown/ Birch Brown 1986 brown DS/DT Elegant Brown/ Imperial Brown 1986 black DS/DT Urushi Black/ Marshall Gold 1987 blue T ? ( blue ) / Orion Silver 1987 grey T Aurora Silver/ ( ? ) 1987 gold DS/DT Alluvial Gold/ Silky Gold 1987 brown DS/DT Copper Brown/ Birch Brown 1987 brown DS/DT Elegant Brown/ Imperial Brown 1987 black DS/DT Urushi Black/ Marshall Gold 1988 silver U Salt Lake Silver/ Anthony Gray 1988 white DU Creamy White/ Ceramic Ivory 1988 red DU Graceful Maroon Metallic/ Miaby Maroon 1989 red DW Graceful Maroon Metallic/ Miaby Maroon 1989 blue DW Dull Blue Cocktail 1 / Dark Grayish Blue Metallic 1990 red DA Velvet Maroon/ Graceful Maroon Metallic 1990 blue DA Dull Blue Cocktail 1 / Dark Grayish Blue Metallic 1991 red DB Velvet Maroon / Graceful Maroon Metallic 1991 black DB New Black Blue/ Bluish Black 1992 blue DD Star Blue Metallic/ Entice Blue Metallic 1993 blue DE - - like1992 - - Royal Star Venture 1999 Titanium Grey/Marble Silver 1999 Bordeaux Red/Shimmering Silver 2000 Pearl White/Ivory (Millennium Edition) 2000 Red/Salsa Red 2001 Cherry Red/Bordeaux 2001 Stardust Silver/Forest Green 2002 Titanium/Platinum 2002 Onxy (Midnight Venture) 2003 Beach Sand Tan/Raspberry Metallic 2003 Raven (Midnight Venture) 2004 Pearl White/Radical White 2004 Raven (Midnight Venture) 2005 Liquid Silver 2005 Raven (Midnight Venture) 2006 Black Cherry 2006 Raven (Midnight Venture) 2007 Galaxy Blue/Raven 2007 Raven (Midnight Venture) Royal Star Tour Deluxe 2005 Two-tone Charcoal Silver / Raven 2005 Two-tone Raspberry Metallic / Raven 2006 Pearl White 2006 Raven (Midnight RSTD) 2007 Candy Red/Raven 2007 Raven (Midnight RSTD) So please take a minute to post a picture of your bike with it's color, or a brochure you have of a particular year and the bikes color listed in it. `
  10. According to the color chart here on the site, these were the colors for 1987 1987 blue T ? ( blue ) / Orion Silver 1987 grey T Aurora Silver/ ( ? ) 1987 gold DS/DT Alluvial Gold/ Silky Gold 1987 brown DS/DT Copper Brown/ Birch Brown 1987 brown DS/DT Elegant Brown/ Imperial Brown 1987 black DS/DT Urushi Black/ Marshall Gold Based on the above, I would guess my paint was either of the two in bold. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-1/1294581/1987VentureRoyale002.jpg http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-1/1294581/1987VentureRoyale001.jpg http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-1/1294581/1987VentureRoyale003.jpg http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-1/1294581/1987VentureRoyale004.jpg So, which color combo do you think I have, and is there any matching touch up paint out there? I know it is a long shot, but why not check. `
