  1. I am seriuosly considering buy a new 05 RSTD. What scares me is what I have been reading about a whining and a chirping noise that some say is really loud and aggrevating. Is this common on all RSTD bikes? I know I probably wouldn't like to hear these noises cruising at highway speeds. Some say the noise problem can be fixed, some say it will never go away. I just don't want to have to get rid of the bike soon after I buy it. I like everything else about the bike. I know all new bikes have their problems. But is this a serious enough problem to keep somebody from buying this bike? Your honest comments will be appreciated.
  2. Hello People, I'm new to this site and have lots of questions. I just bought a 92 Venture form a guy at work. He pretty much wheels and deals with bikes. This one has 70K miles on it. It needed some TLC, so I got a deal(I Think). So far I have replaced the vacuum lines on the cruise, replaced the carb boots which mount the carbs to the head, replaired several electrical connections including the E4 error for the suspension controller. Now I need to replace fork seals and brakes. My main question is on the rear rotor, which bikes have rotors that are interchangeable with this bike? Are any compatable front to rear? I have been looking on ebay and have seen some. I am on a limited budget and would like to have enough to spread around to other areas that need work also. Thanks for any input:cool10:
  3. How many different ways can you think of to better your fuel milage? How many of us have tried those "As Seen On TV" solutions? Have any of them REALLY worked for you? What one will fit on our bikes? Etc. Etc. Etc.
  4. Ok, I know this isn't a Venture but you all have played with other bikes in your days I'm guessing. I bought a '78 Yamaha 400 for $1. yup, ONE DOLLAR Got it running a few months ago and it is just the perfect Learner bike. Anyway the one issue that bothers me is the way this thing dives at the touch of the Front brake. I have already drained and filled the forks with 10-30 motor oil as recommended in the manual. Still dives. At that time I was surprised to find that the Springs pop out of the upper fork by about 1" telling me that they are not 'tired'. ( the bike has 8K miles on it.) So, any suggestions? I was thinking of preloading the springs with some PVC but I'm not sure I would be able to push it all down into the fork to get the Snap ring back in place that holds the whole mess together. Is this just the nature of these good ole' bikes?

    Run Flat tires?

Kicking around the Harley dealer today, saw several bikes with run flat tires. I guess the police use them but are available for retail puchase. First time I have seen these on a bike. There must be some drawbacks or most bikes would have them. Any experience anyone?
  6. Anyone out there knows how to clean whitewall tires? I am having trouble finding stuff that doesn't require a lot of hard work and will properly restore the whitewall on my bike's tires. No matter what I use there is still some yellow marks, along the outside perimeter, that I can't get rid of. Thanks for your help. Hermann
  7. The other day I was talking to the Yamaha dealer and the subject of SeaFoam came up. He had never heard of it. He said when he winterizes bikes, he puts about a gallon of airplane fuel in and has never had a problem.
