  1. Greetings one and all. Less than 2 hours to go down here until midnight, and the start of 2008. So, let me be the first in the Venture world to wish y'all a Happy New Year. I'm not waiting around to see it in. Big day tomorrow so I'm off to bed. Goodnight grandma. Goodnight grandpa. Goodnight John Boy. :rotf:
  2. When Vista arrived on the scene, I approached my PC shop where mine was built and asked if I could upgrade to Vista. Now, here's a man in the business of selling 'puters and software - and he said "DON'T DO IT!" So, I didn't! Sticking with XP-Pro on the PC and XP-Home on the lapdancer.
  3. Greetings all, I've had unbelievable help from Squidly and Danob re this matter. Dano has been to the bike shop and made some inquiries for me. Pursuant to that, I have sent Flatout a further Email (directed at Chris, the Email dealer) and suddenly received a very positive response from him. You didn't lean too heavily on him did you Dano? I now have Dano making personal inquiries at ground zero, and I'm dealing direct from the other side of the world. Hopefully within a couple of days I'll know if the latest (2005-8) shock is available, and with any sort of luck have one within a week. I had offers from members to buy the shock and ship it to me themselves, trusting me to re-imburse them. Now, that's what I call mateship. Thanks guys. It would seem now however that Flatout is back in the loop and I will be able to pay them from here via my Visa card. I can't thank everybody enough for the work that has been done for me over in Indiana. I am forever in your debt. I'll keep you posted on how things are going. Dano - I've PMd you today. Cheers, Spear
  4. Gotcha in my thoughts Lewis. Onwards and upwards from here old mate.
  5. Is the sort of thing you're talking about hipshot? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UYXbA1rrUc]YouTube - Motorbike[/ame]
  6. Five years of claims, eh? Then why the hell does Yamahahah Australia tell me it knows of no problem with the unit? The company gave me the brush-off when I inquired, and no doubt you'll get the same response. Have you approached it yet?
  7. Thanks Rick. I used to say in my old LEO Forensic days - you can never have too much information. All you gotta do is work out which bits you wanna keep and which bits you didn't need in the first place. Spear
  8. Hey Steve, I'm waiting until after 1 January for a comparison on the 2005 and 2008 shock. The guys at Flatout are going to check with Yamahahaha's technical people on same, and from there I buy - depending on that outcome. Danob11 is doing the groundwork for me (God bless his little cotton socks) and I hope to then be able to order direct from Flatout to save him being mucked around any more. I see it's been a bit (a BIT?) hot over that way over Christmas. How'd you like the 42degC on Boxing Day? We haven't been over 27 until today, when it hit 33. On top of all that though we have had buckets and buckets of rain. How's 7 inches over 5 days sound? Have a good 2008. Steve
  9. Hey Cliff, As some famous game-show host once said, "Come on down!"
  10. Somebody asked for a Christmas photo. Took this about an hour ago. This is the entire family - me, my folks and my wife in front and our 2 sons (red shirt and yellow shirt) and daughter (centre) with their partners standing. My 2 border collie dogs make up the party. Enjoy, Steve
  11. Ah - correction there buddy. We disengaged from the UK a long time ago. There are Aussie troops in Iraq, only because our former Prime Minister was George W's deputy marshall. We have a new Prime Minister who just visited our troops in Iraq, and part of his election pledge is to pull our combat troops out of there. Our reconstruction troops stay. And 9-11 as you call it - I watched it all live on TV as it happened. Yes it certainly changed the world forever but I fail to see where Saddam Hussein was involved. My 2c worth and end of politics for this thread. (Couldn't let your little snipe go unresolved.) BTW - Dorothy and Toto lived in a dream as well. Spear PS - cleaned up your photo for you. Looked like fun!
  12. Hey Jim, I don't know why you're over there, other than George W said "GO!" (and maybe the fact there is oil there.) Nonetheless buddy, keep your head down and have the best Christmas you can given your situation. I'm too old for Iraq, and they didn't want me for Vietnam. Cheers, Steve P
  13. Had a guy in my home town who was an absolute lair. He rode a Honda Blackbird and his favourite trick was to do a wheel stand from one set of traffic lights to the next. I'm a former LEO, and after seeing a couple of this guy's exhibitions I contacted one of my former (HWP) workmates and suggested that they knock on his door and tell him to pull his head in. Before they had a chance to do that, they had to go there anyway to ask his girlfriend to acompany them to the morgue to identify his body. Yep - you guessed it - he popped one too many wheelies and buried himself in the side of a car. You should have seen the tributes and accolades that poured out from his friends, and were published in the local paper. My letter to the editor was never published. Why? Because the truth would have hurt too many people. As I tell a lot of people, "He'll never do that again!"
  14. Well folks, Christmas day is just about done for me. Beautiful weather - we got up to 29 degC (about 83degF) so I took the RSV out for a quick 20kms squirt at 6pm just to warm up the oil. AAAaaahh, that's better!
  15. Hey Steve. How's the west? I did see that part number somewhere else, but I've also seen another. Now I'm confused... Not to worry, there is a fantastic team on the ground in the good ol' USofA going out of its way to help me. Bl00dy unbelievable! ! ! I'm having to wait a few days until Flatout is back on deck after the Chrissie break. That won't hurt me though. I've opted for the genuine part rather than the much dearer Works unit mainly for that reason - price. Did you see the story in the latest Australian Road Rider about the bloke who rode the new Kwakka 1400 from the east coast to the west, then turned around and rode back again? Makes your run from Qld to WA look like a walk in the park. Enjoy your day and whatever 2008 brings to you. Cheers, Steve P
  16. Back at ya Jeff. All the best from Oz!
  17. Okay my friends. Seeing that the bulk of our members live in the northern hemisphere and are hours behind the rest of the world, I think it's time I chimed in to wish you all a Merry Christmas (MC) from Down Under (DU). The big fat fella in the red suit has been and gone and there are reindeer droppings all over the front lawn. My wife and I have had a great morning with the entire family doing the pressies thing, and right now #1 son is finishing off preparing a baked dinner for Christmas lunch. As I type it's approaching 2pm on Christmas day, and we have lots left yet to do. Sun down is around 8:10pm and about then it will be time for our next BBQ dinner in the garden. Ah, summer! So as you wake and begin to share your day with your loved ones, and have a quick look at the website, let me wish you all a fantastic day as I start to wind down. Peace and blessings, love and light to everyone from Australia - where the wide open spaces make riding a real Venture. Cheers, Spear
  18. Hey Lionel. You've been pretty quiet lately. Same back at ya mate, all the way over there in the west. Have a great Christmas and an even better 2008. Cheers from NSW. Spear.
  19. ... and Down Under they're starting to get shorter and shorter. In 3 months time we'll be able to share similar riding conditions and daylight hours, so the world should notice a greater presence of Ventures.
  20. Hi Brad, I'm led to believe that the 2008 RSV has the latest version of the rear shock, so if you're gonna have the best you can get (without buying a Works unit) you may as well get one for the latest model. Spear
  21. Leave it with you Squid. It's nearly midnight, so I'm off to bed. Have to work tomorrow. 'night all!
  22. Copy al that. Just tried to ring you on your mobile (cell) phone, but no response. Left you a voice message. (Ain't technology wonderful? Ten years ago all of this would have taken weeks of writing letters back and forth!)
  23. Thanks guys. Squidley - I've sent you a PM with more details. (You guys are unreal!!) Thanks Carl! Spear
  24. Greetings all. I've been sending emails to Flatout Motorcycles in Indianapolis, Indiana but getting no response. I tried to ring them once, but it was too late in the night here in Australia to wait around for them to open up in their morning. I want to know if they have a 2008 rear shock for a 2004 RSV that I can buy from them through their website. You may know from other posts of mine that my shock crapped itself, and after shopping around I've settled on a genuine CURRENT model replacement. A fellow Aussie member lockdoc said he bought a 2005 one from Flatout for his 2004, and It's been suggested to me that I go for a 2008 model unit due to apparently better modifications. Now, herein lies my problem. THEY WON'T TALK TO ME! Is there somebody on this forum who lives nearby to flatout who can give them a ring on 317-890-9110 and ask them to respond to my emails, or email me so I know we're talking? If whoever is in a position to do so would like to PM me, I'll supply my email address for relaying to them. Sorry to be so long-winded, but I'm in a bit of a rut. Needless to say I can land a genuine unit in Australia from America, far cheaper than I can buy it here at home. Crazy, but true.
